Title: Ambience + Fall
Post by: you be betty on November 04, 2007, 03:25:00 pm
I don't know why, but every year around this time, when the leaves start turning and the weather gets chilly, I bust out the insturmental and more ambient music of my collection.  For some reason this stuff just does not sound as good in August as it does in November.

 Am I the only one?

Nope, you're not alone. There are definitely some albums that are seasonal for me.

As one of my friends once put it, "fall is when things die."  That kinda sets the tone for music.

For me, Ambience in general doesn't sound like a Fall thing but I do get what you mean. Maybe because I'm more into that sort of music so hear lots of different sides of it but some of it sounds much more Spring or Summer like to me. Then some of it is much more Winter sounding. But it all depends on the particular music.

Betty, for Fall Ambience, you should check out Hood and Epic 45. They definitely have a very Fall flavor to them.

And as far as winter, nothing evokes the harsh chill of the season better than that icy music of the Russian tundra, Tatu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWU6KUVgKBY).

Oh, crap, Doomie! Haha. For Winter, I say Sigur Rós. There is nothing like driving through country roads on a snowy Christmas morning listening to Sigur Rós.

Also, some Loveliescrushing which often brings to my mind glistening sparkling snow.

No song sums up autumn better for me than "Our Way to Fall" by Yo La Tengo.

 My perfect late autumn LP:
