I think you forgot Motown ever existed.
-
Supremes/Diana Ross
Stevie Wonder
Temptations
White Stripes
Suzi Quatro

Phil Ochs
The Romantics

Smokey Robinson and the Miracles

Yup I completely forgot Motown existed ::)
also I went to High School with the singer of Negative Approach, he was one of the Burnout/Freak crowd and once donned Alice Cooper make-up for a HS battle of the bands. He later was in Laughing Hyenas and Easy Action ;)

No offense but I am begining to think you are tone death.

Why because I happen to know that the Funk Brothers were the studio musicians who backed all the Motown SINGERS you mentioned. Without the Funk Brothers most of the early Motown releases would have been a cappella. I choose at this to acknowledge the legacy of the Motown musicians. Some of whom considered my dad a friend. Watch Standing in the shadows...
-
theres got to be some killer jazz cats from detroit
also some of the early Bob Seger is great... and was pretty big regionally
-
Nobody's mentioned Kid Rock. Or the "born and raised in south detroit" pretender, Steve Perry.

Because you left off the Supremes and picked Brendon Benson. Picking studio musicians doesn't count.
-
Not that it really matters, because you'll shout me down, but the Supremes are one of my lest favorite Motown acts...

Supremes had 12 #1 hits and that isn't even including Diana Ross' solo hits. So I think you might be in the minority in this one. I guess it is like saying the Beatles were your least favorite British invasion band and you think the Mock Turtles are the better Liverpool band. You might not be the only one with this opinion but you are in a very small minority.
-
Detroit Cobras
-
Crenshaw! C'mon.
-
Nobody's mentioned Kid Rock.
While KR is dedicated to the metro area and seems like an overall good dude, he fucking sucks as a musician.
-
Bagley and Shemp both point out why making lists is hard. Let's just say they are in the next 10 ;)
-
The title of the thread is YOUR top 10. Not THE top 10.

Start using all caps then so we know when you're serious as opposed to just typing loudly.

I'm not sure what "tone death" is but I'm definitely stealing that for my next heavy metel band.
-
Detroit Cobras
good one..the bottom seemed to fall out pretty quickly though...
btw they used to play here all the time and its been a while..

Funny. I read the original as 'deaf', not 'death'.

In fairness only Kosmo and I made lists and Kosmo filled it with people no one ever heard of before.

So its all your fault.

Yeah it is. I thought about Aretha but there a lot of great acts from Detroit.

-

Detroit Cobras
Dirtbombs
Necros
Outside of Motown can't really think of that many acts from detroit
-
Necros are from Ohio
And in the Garage Rock category don't forget
The Gories
The Henchmen
Outrageous Cherry
The paybacks
The Go
The High Strung
The Sights
The Von Bondies

Funny how everyone is skipping by far the best rock band in the history of Detroit.

Arguably best album...

Heads will probably go with this instrumental album as best. But it's more about ideas than full pieces.
