My favorite Prince song is Purple Rain.. just so gut wrenching.. and even at nearly 9 minutes (I think) it still feels like it ends too early.....Didn't he do it at the Super Bowl? He was amazing at that Super Bowl...
My favorite prince album has to be Sign of the Times.... so many killer songs on that one....
what a huge loss..I really thought we would have him around for another good 20 years....and I was looking forward to it...

My Prince era was pretty much Controversy through Parade, and like most would probably gravitate toward Purple Rain as an entire album, but songs that have always stuck with me:
1. Purple Rain
2. Girls and Boys
3. Kiss
and last but not least... Erotic City

Shit... not really possible to pick. One of those artists who just has too much of a catalog... also, kind of like walky's thread of picking your five favorite artists in life, can't do it... but right now, this song is ragin' in casa de yada.

Listening to Dirty Mind instantly made me feel better today.
I was listening to Uptown and marveling at the fact that Prince plays damn near everything on that record, other than some keyboard parts. Man is that track a monster from the bass line, drums, guitars...

Wow do I have a lot of Prince oddities, starting with at least one of the Madhouse records and a couple 12" from that project. I also dug out "Come" and Chaos and Disorder". Plus that kinda ill fated Crystal Ball release that was months late in being released, for the first really large scale fan funded releases. I really need to find my copy of "Around the World in a Day", kinda of amazing he release a record with psychedelic vibe right after 1999..

I want to listen to a prince album before I give some rambling post about how it a/effected me, but I don't have a cd player anywhere in my house and I mainly listened to them in my vehicle, and now I only listen to music via apps or satellite radio, via another app, and there are no prince albums for me to listen to via apps, so oh well.
the album was around the world in a day. oh, how it grew up with me.

Prince died with $300,000,000. I cant imagine the paltry sum he would have added to his fortune from streaming would have made that much of a difference.

more like the hit his reputation took over the past two decades due to him being widely considered an anachronistic kook cause he refused to "get with the times" and give away his music for free..
I don't think he took a stand so much because of what it meant to his pockets but because of what it meant for others... as you say, most artists make a pittance from streaming.. streaming means a lot of people feel no need to buy the actual music... people feel they don't need to buy the music so Prince dies and they don't have any and find it hard to access it.. he also was strongly against Youtube etc..
there is I think some sort of irony to people wanting to listen to Prince's music because he dies and they are reminded how much they love him and yet they can't immediately gratify their need to listen to his music because he was against the platforms/mediums people wish to use to access the music by the musician they love.. Prince's fight against the record labels and the new music "sharing" platforms was a huge thing for Prince..Prince tried hard in his last two decades to find other platforms for getting his music out to the people: free new cd with newspapers, free new cd if you bought a concert ticket etc.. he was definitely searching for something..

Do you have an optical drive on your home computer or a DVD or Blu-ray player? Any of those should play a CD.

i got to see Prince twice during the Musicology tour. almost a decade later and i still haven't recovered: it's what turned me into a concert junkie. i've been chasing that dragon ever since. during that show he did an acoustic set which, IMHO, slayed. watch a version here:

i was going to poop all over that jones/gilmour thing but thought i'd be outta place. since i'm not alone in being unimpressed i'll pile on: i couldn't make it through the video either. jones looks sooooo awkward. like an uptight uncle forced to dance at a wedding. the gilmour solo is forgettable. sounds completely like a gilmour solo, because it sounds exactly like everything else he has ever done. seemed phoned in to me. i'm a huge fan of pink floyd and i love his style but it didn't fit this song. i had high hopes for this one and gilmour let me down.

I find it weird that is on Mixcloud; they have a rule where any mix with more than three songs by any artist, gets blocked in the US because of licensing rules.... I thought these applied to live tracks as well as studio recordings.

true... he did apologize and said he should have kept his big mouth shut.. even Paul Stanley called him out on it!
but I guess his larger point is that if someone dies because of things they do to themselves he has no sympathy for them.. and that he has never had a drop of alcohol or done any drugs.......although he made a mistake calling out Prince...his larger point is interesting to contemplate..

enjoying "dirty mind" lp c/o mobius.
reissue sounds much better than the original wb pressings, not shrill, lotsa bass.
hope those revolution shows make it out ourways.

I noticed that Prince really didn't like Spotify... One can't even stream "I Feel For You" or "Glamours Life" via it. It's odd that The Time records are up there. Also odd all the Time CDs are in print, but the Vanity 6 and first Shelia E. aren't
I need to go down the Jamie Starr rabbit hole some more, definitely need to rip all of the Vanity 6 album since it's seriously out of print at this point, not streaming or even digital download.
