Another amazing sounding disc is the Grisman, Tony Rice, and Jerry Garcia "The Pizza Tapes"....wonderful performances perfectly recorded..and Jerry's voice sounds spectacular..you feel like you are in there with them..some beautiful moments too...the image of jerry in some sort of drug coma eating ben and  jerrys is dispelled..he was still capable of being full of joy and deriving enjoyment from music...if only he had left the dead

I came to say Brothers In Arms, but yes, Dire Straits in general.

It all comes down to the record and the system it's being played on.

I'd vote for Public Image's Metal Box.

This is a tough one. I need to pick about my top 5.

Best sounding live album? Live at the Roxy by Social Distortion.

Best sounding blockbuster production? Avalon by Roxy Music. Though I'd have to say that Dire Straits records sound phenomenal. My runner up is Rumors by Fleetwood Mac.

Best sounding LP on a moderate budget? Copper Blue by Sugar.

Cleanest-sounding scuzzy LP? The Record by Fear.

Best sounding LP that cost way, way over budget? Loveless by My Bloody Valentine.

Am I the only RATM fan that thinks the production for this is too stale? No edge whatsoever. It's their only album that I never listen to anymore.

Skeptical of reissues..95% of time they cut corners and make false claims..

I bought the plain records loveless reissue circa 2003 at that cd lp store on the adams morgan strip...got home..opened it and it had a big scratch..tried to take it back and they said they would not...a year later they were out of business..karma

Still have that lp..never listen to it..always use the cd which sounds fine

Kevin Shields is doing the work on the reissue (Isn't Anything is getting a release as well) so i have no doubts about any of the claims on this one.

If I recall correctly the Plain reissue was mastered off the CD.

you're probably not the only, but you are definitely in the minority.  the s/t is an album that many sound techs use to calibrate their systems - to this day.

I assume he was talking about Battle

s/t

The material is great. The production is too sterile for me. Battle has more edge to it but the material isn't as consistent.
