1. 0, thanks to the American voters.
2. Rain Dogs, though my wife would tear a fit if i played it in the house.
3. Eating at the Y.
4. Two cars for two adults.
5. Ever or this year? For me, Wilco with Old 97's at 9:30 Club, 1999.
6. I like Spain but I'm going to say Latino.
7. Saxophone, so i could inspire my daughter to practice more and help her. Plus, Coltrane rules.
8. The fake one we bought 10+ years ago is turning out to be a great $50 purchase.
9. 60 minutes each way (40 by train, so lots of reading and Tom Waits listening time)
10. We've been here a long time and nobody has yet proven his/her existence.

1.  Five
2.  Closing Time
3.  Variety is the spice of life
4.  Three
5.  Fleetwood Mac (assuming you mean this year).  I would never have gone to see them on my own.  My wife wanted to go and it was surprisingly awesome.  Really awesome.
6.  Chicano
7.  Guitar
8.  Yes
9.  Zero.  Parted ways with my employer of 22 years over the summer.  Working a few side hustles in hopes that I never have to have an employer ever again.
10. Yes, but that involves a great deal of discussion about what "God" really means.

1) 8
2) Bone Machine.  There are better but that was my 1st.  And I Don't Want to Grow Up.
3) The last one. Until the next one.
4) You betcha.
5) The last one. Until the next one.
6) No se.
7) Guitar. I can play already. Wish I had time to play more.
8. Artificial all the way.
9) 37 minutes.
10) I like the idea. But I'm gonna need some proof.

3. Her on top
4. Yes
5. Perhaps Hüsker Dü's last 930 stand.
6. Groups of people may self-identify. How ever they want to be identified as, I'm good with it.
7. Probably piano.
8. Nope
9. 15 minutes
10. Agnostic all the way.

5. This year? Any of the New Orleans brass band shows at the Hamilton that remind me how culturally important New Orleans is to the US and the world
6.  Seeing how I am neither, I think those that identify as such should select their preferred term

1. I'm bald, and I shave what little hair I have. No proper haircuts.
2. I don't listen to Tom Waits. I'm too busy delving into the Gun Club discography
3. Why pick one when you can have many?
4. Nope
5. In 2017? Luna at Union Transfer.
6. One can be a noun, the other can be an adjective. I guess both can be adjectives. I don't care either way.
7. Guitar
8. Nope
9. 20 minutes each way
10. I believe in energy, universal karma, and the fact that we aren't intelligent enough to see beyond what's in front of us. That being said, I'm open to the idea of whatever "God" is but unsure of what I believe. Hasn't NASA mapped like 11 other dimensions? That's a solid argument to me that we aren't unique, special or singular. Good question though.

Ahh! Someone finally posted the questions too!

1. How many haircuts did you get in 2017?
12, with a thirteenth coming tomorrow.

2. Name your favorite Tom Waits release/album (compilations ok)
None of them.

3. Most satisfying sexual position
Cowgirl

4. Do you have a car?
Yes, just bought a new Toyota Prius Four Touring. Gas mileage is phenomenal.

5.  The concert you are most glad you where at
VirginFest the year with the Police and Smashing Pumpkins. Just an amazing two days. Every band I saw was great.

6. Do you prefer the term "latino" or "hispanic"

7.musical instrument you wish you could play
Piano

8. Did you buy a Christmas tree this year?
No, I do not celebrate Christmas.

9. Average time of work commute
18 minutes-ish

10. Do you believe in God?
If there's a God, it's not the construct taught in any religion, it's a more abstract multi-dimensional "being" the likes of which religion has not conceived of yet. That entity probably is dispassionate if it is aware of humans at all.

      nothing worthwhile.

To me, Tom Waits has always been the ultimate music snob's artists. And I tend to think of people who take the time to post on music related message boards are the ultimate music snobs. Hence, I'm surprised at how many people here don't care for Tom Waits.

Secondly, a question for those who aren't 100% on their belief in God. How do you reconcile that with your celebration of the Christian holiday Christmas (assuming you celebrate it?)

because in my family it has zero to do with the baby jesus and exclusively around giving gifts, spending time with family and decorating a tree with non denominational ornaments.
that it happens to coincide with what a bunch of Christians do...well I could care less

Definition of hypocrite: a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings

My stated belief is that I don't recognize the baby jesus as anything other than one human born two centuries ago
I don't think there is one line in the bible about giving gifts and decorating a tree at the end of December?

Although Christians and non-Christians alike celebrate Christmas, the new survey shows they have differing views of the holiday. Two-thirds of Christians (65%) say Christmas is mostly a religious holiday, while most non-Christians see the holiday as more of a “cultural” event than a religious occasion.

Are you saying that if you *were* a Christian, you would strictly follow the Bible? Because a lot of the shit Catholics do isn't in the Bible. And I'm not just talking about the molesting, I'm talking about the rituals.

Also, are you saying Jesus was born in 1817?

If we're going by biblical Christ anecdotes; my co-worker, who is a Jehovah's Witness, claims the reason they don't hold celebrations, while believing in Christ, is because the Bible makes no claim of Jesus' birth date or references a celebration of such within text. So in his words December 25th is just some arbitrary date.
I personally feel that it's safe to say that we live in a country where most Christmas revelers' primary image of the holiday is: fat man, red coat, and delicately wrapped (if you're my SO) expensive gifts (do people really gift cars for Christmas... 1995 Toyota Corolla here so what do I know) and a pine tree or reasonable facsimile. None of which, I think, existed at some time early AD in the middle east.
To me, "non-believers" celebrating Christmas is like a family that chooses to root for a sports team that they have no (or at best a tenuous)  affiliation with. It's their choice, it's fun to have something that you like to do.
Maybe we should just roll pagan Christmas celebrations in with Thanksgiving, they're already playing the songs by then. That way the true believers can have the whole day for quiet contemplation or religious ceremony.

Also, I grew up baptized Catholic with a lapsed Jewish father. . . So I celebrate what I know. . . Presents, gelt and Chinese food.

This isn't really a claim, it's an established fact regardless of one's religious leanings. There was no Julian Calendar in Biblical times; December 25th did not exist. There is no date (via the Jewish calendar) given in the Bible, and most anecdotal evidence points to it being more in line with fall.

December 25th was decided upon at the Council of Nicea (or Trent, I forget). It gave sanction the habit early Christians had of turning the pagan holidays around the winter solstice into a "Christian" holiday to fit in. Similar story with Easter (which falls on a different date every year because, again, the Julian calendar did not exist and so Nican 14 falls on a different day each year).

None of these things are actually in the Bible, they're just morphed version of pagan holidays. Which is fitting since Christianity is a morphed version of pagan religions to begin with.

So wait.  If I -- AND IM NOT SAYING I DID -- but if I were to have enjoyed a sufganiyot last week, would I need to repent?  Should I refrain from getting a paczki this year?  To whom should I apologize?  Am I to feel bad about my behavior?

Maybe the atheists need to come up with their own raspberry jelly filled donut-centric holiday.

Regarding Tom Waits. . .
Should (or is) his discography ever split between like pre/post Swordfishtrombone?
I feel like that was a point of jettisoning of what would have been a generally respectable sound of possibly diminishing returns for a sound that eventually "music snobs" would use is juxtaposition of earlier trend to deify him to some degree as a some sort of hobo Buddha.
I think that he probably would have followed a trajectory of a Randy Newman or (probably more likely) Warren Zevon if he hadn't made the change (which I think is interesting as all three started at the time as piano based composers and had a relationship with the Eagles, but aren't exactly thaaaaaat west coast).
I like him, I appreciate the faux jazz and think that he works in an idiom of non-traditional (broadly speaking) pop.
My girlfriend hates it all. . . early stuff is too boring and later stuff just sounds like he needs water.

I think the thing I loathe most about Tom Waits is that the track he contributes to on Sparklehorse's It's A Wonderful Life sullies what is otherwise a masterpiece.
