Disagree but I'll play along.

MBV also promised a new album this year, but I'll believe that when I see it.

I don't, pay attention to new album's anymore, cuz I'm convinced nobody really releases new albums anymore that's important to me.

But, I do love the fact that every Friday I go to Spotify to see what all the new releases are, and nine out of 10 of them are all rap groups or rap artists or rap people I have never rap heard of.  And, an occasional country something.

Overall probably but I think it may best AM's sales in the UK. They're coming back from their first hiatus and everyone (including myself) is hungry for new material.

Arctic Monkeys AM sounds too much like the black keys....I did not always feel this way...when it came out I thought it was awesome ..I think they wanted to break into the US market and I can’t blame them...will be interesting to see how this new one is

Their first is one of my favorites of all time....

It's a good thing most of their songs are only two minutes long then....

+1 for not really caring for GBV.  just don't do much for me.

i saw them in L.A. at the Wiltern a while back.  i spent the entire show starring at the (beautiful) ceiling, and left after less than an hour.

I *love* that song about Black Girls. The rest of their catalog is tolerable at best.

I prefer Doug Gillard in Nada Surf and Bobby Bare Jr in Bobby Bare Jr.

I've listened to them sparingly, primarily because their discography is just too large to dive in for a newb. Who wants to shed some light on where to begin?

Dean Wareham Vs. Cheval Sombre,

just wanna give you the heads up about my upcoming album, Dean Wareham Vs. Cheval Sombre, a collection of western dreampop I made with my friend Chris (aka Cheval Sombre). Chris and I took turns on lead vocals, Jason Quever produced at Palmetto Recording here in L.A. I play the electric guitars, backed by Britta Phillips, Anthony LaMarca, Jason Quever and Will Halsey. Some of these songs (e.g. "Wandering Star") are from old Hollywood movies, others are by songwriters like Bob Dylan and Stephen Merritt.

The record will officially be released October 26 but I am offering some special items and bundled discounts if you pre-order from my new website deanwareham.com, and you'll also receive early downloads of a couple of album tracks that we'll release early in September.

-- signed, color vinyl LP (only making 300 of these and they will not be in stores). The colored vinyl edition comes with a special, square-shaped, lathe-cut, clear vinyl 7" single with special art -- for a bonus track "Along the Santa Fe Trail"

Here's the track listing for the album:

    The Bend in the River
    Tomorrow is a Long Time
    Mountains of the Moon
    If I Could Only Fly
    Wayfaring Stranger
    Alberta
    Wand’rin’ Star
    Greensboro Woman
My Rifle, My Pony and Me
    Grand Canyon

Yours sincerely,

Dean

verry cool
was a little concerned that I was going to have to buy the super deluxe limited special package
but they are selling just the album with nearly all of the tracks for $10.99

edit...read the fine print
SEVEN-INCH SINGLE
“This is England” – 1984 July Demo – Previously Unreleased
“Before We Go Forward” – 1984 July Demo – Previously Unreleased

CASSETTE – U.S. North Basement Demo
Unreleased. Recorded 1986. Discovered in Joe’s cast cupboard.
Joe Strummer & Mick Jones: Vocals, Guitar, Drum Machine

The book looks good an probably worth the $25
64-page hard backed A4 Note Book with writings, lyrics, photos and sketches taken from Joe’s extensive personal archive.

this was cool news too There are now over 20,000 items in the Joe Strummer Archive.

There has got to be some treasure in that archive.  I'd be very like Joe to make that free to all mankind...

If Steve Perry wants to tour- doubtful- he will sell a lot of tickets....as Steve Perry

He hasn’t played live shows in so long the demand is there....kind of like Phil Collins playing arenas solo
Title: Re: 2018 albums
Post by: walkonbyeeeeeeeee on August 27, 2018, 11:02:14 am
I am old.  I now, start to really question the sellabity of acts that I, grew up with.  yeah, sure, steve perry could do a tour and play places like Nissan or Walnut Creek or Merriweather or any venues like that, and sell them fine for one tour.  beyond that, probably not.  and what would he charge, knowing that he will only do one tour.  gurl . . . it will be a show for older people who can pay those prices, and not bitch, or even bitch about the service fees.  They will want catered meals to be picked up at the show, and they will want to sit where the servers are.  everyone else will bitch he's charging $500 vip, as they seek out groupon $25 lawn seats and complain that ticketmaster has a secondary market.

Title: Re: 2018 albums
Post by: hutch on August 27, 2018, 11:07:09 am
Well the promoter would set prices...

But he has shown no interest in touring in decades....he also knows his voice can’t hit the notes

And he gets a cut every time Journey plays a show!

But it is interesting he is releasing a new record after decades out and makes one think he might tour...if he did I would expect indoor arenas like Verizon or whatever they are calling it this week
Title: Re: 2018 albums
Post by: walkonbyeeeeeeeee on August 27, 2018, 11:10:36 am
its Verizon; always will be.  why, not MCI . . . I don't know.  I didn't know he gets a cut when Journey plays.  I still like my idea, of having a band consisting of people who look like, members of original Journey, as they appeared in the 80s.

For Space! Just in time for Christmas an Old 97s holiday record

Thanks for the info. Also Old 97's tour with Rhett Miller opening...dates in Richmond, Philly, and Baltimore...but no DC. An Old 97's holiday show sounds like a natural fit for the Birchmere.
saw this and thought it's kind of weird (not the dc thing)
but I guess it's a good way to play some of his solo stuff without the band?

What dish pairs best with an Old 97s Holiday Show because I don't go to the Birchmere often, but when I do, I go for the food?

Texas style BBQ. Because when Beto wins, they're going to have to ship it all up here.

Bob Dylan had crucial second thoughts just as he was about to release “Blood on the Tracks,” the indelible 1975 album filled with songs of separation, heartache, sorrow, rage and regret. Now it’s getting a revealing close-up. “More Blood, More Tracks: The Bootleg Series Vol. 14,” due Friday, unveils all of the initial sessions: the solo, duo and small-group versions of songs that Dylan replaced, for half of the album, with more extroverted full-band recordings. There are an exhaustive deluxe six-CD version with every surviving take and a one-CD compilation of alternate versions of the album’s 10 songs plus one that was omitted, “Up to Me.”
