Just joking...I don't have tickets.  I'd listen  to Kosmo on this one...he usually knows what he's talking about.

I got an e-mail from record and tape traders

saying that if you go to one of their stores, and your one of the first two to put a 5 dollar reserve on the new cd, you'll get a free pass to the show

...caught them on Sat. Night Live last night, and I can honestly say I have finally found a band that I do NOT think I could listen to for a whole live set.  I heard a few bars of something melodic/lyrical or interesting, but the "hammy" facial expressions and eye rolls are just TOOOO distracting for me. Maybe their CD would be more enjoyable, but there are scores of other groups I'd buy CDs from before SOAD.  Yea, that is very uncool to sell tickets that way for fans of ANY age...BOOO.

I'll be there early Wednesday morning.  I'll probably be going myself so if anyone needs an extra ticket let me know.  I think tickets are $30.  Look for the kid with the big hand on the front of his shirt (System fans know what I'm talking about).

Personally I don't want anyone to open.  A two hour system set is better than 90 minutes with some shit band opening.

I have a couple of questions on the concert.  I've seen the questions posted but have't seen a direct answer. Maybe moderator can help me out here. What is the limit on the tickets you are able to purchase and is there an age limit? I'm 18 and need to purchase two tickets. Will there be an issue with that? And just wondering, when do you guys think people will start lining up for tickets.

I think they're doing a 90 minute set, even with a 20 song set.  Their songs do tend to be a little on the short side.

there's 5-6 of us so far.  we're thinking enough people will be here by tuesday night so that no one that shows up wednesday will get tickets.  we're trying to get the exact number of tickets that will be available, but no one has said yet.

the staph has been bringing us cookies and other snacks, as well as playing board games with us all.
last night's twister game was crazy.  i'm just sitting here waiting for the chance for a rematch in scrabble.

This thread is great  :)

I saw SOAD once at some festival thing. Even though I love loud, abrasive music, I just didn't get it with those guys. Maybe I need to listen to their records more, but to me it was really tedious stuff that for a while became a wash of noise. They seem to love their fans though, so that's cool. More power to them.

Thanks for the updates. I drove by around 1 after the Lucksmiths show at DC9. Lucky it was nice outside, imagine if this show was in January! Anyway how come people waiting in line are being kept away from the front of the club?

I apologize to the rest of my crew, but I'm going to have to blow our cover. walkonby, andy and mindcage have been camping out inside the club in the coat check.  markie joined them last night because he heard a rumor that someone was demoing Halo 3 and decided to stick around.  Hoya and I will be arriving shortly to dicuss the relevance of DCist.com.  Vansmack is due in on the redeye any minute now. team2 and team3  have shown up in order broker the tickets they get. chimbly and chaz have woken up from their 4am disco naps and should be back shortly with more krispy kremes and PBR.  GGW already got his ticket and is standing in line so he can get front and center when doors open.  He'll be the really tall one with bluetooth headpiece talking during the quiet bits. did i miss anyone?

how could i forget distance who keeps iming me from the line about this that and the other thing. dude  i'll be there shortly with the happy pills you left in the medicine cabinet.

no, really, though, it took me several hours to figure out that SOAD = system of a down, and now it will take me several more to realize i don't like the music at all.  i think i'll stick with shows that don't involve lines.

Being Brash to Stir Things Up
 By JON PARELES
 The New York Times

System of a Down doesn't mind taking some cheap shots. The band played Irving Plaza on Monday night fresh from its appearance on "Saturday Night Live," where its leader, Serj Tankian, used a four-letter word and caused the predictable brouhaha, which gave him something to brag about onstage.

Televised profanity was just the thing to stir some interest in the band's brief new album, "Mezmerize" (American/Columbia), to be released on Tuesday, but didn't get much exposure in the band's set, which drew mostly on its 2001 album, "Toxicity" (American/Columbia). Mr. Tankian's other stage banter was about sex, drugs and pumping up a crowd that had already turned the floor into a bruising mosh pit.

The music was made for that: thrashing, stop-start rock that slowed down and got melodic just long enough to give fans a breather before the next blast of fast power chords and strobe lights. In concert, System of a Down's songs are like throttles governing the speed and impact of the crowd. But for all its muscle, the band has more on its mind than brute force.

System of a Down, whose members are Armenian-American, sings about genocide, war, religion, oppression and freedom. Between the salvos of speed metal, the songs switched - sometimes instantly - to minor-mode tunes that hinted at Eastern European origins, and the nasal bark that Mr. Tankian used for fast passages turned to a sustained, almost mournful tenor.

For all his sardonic vocal mannerisms, Mr. Tankian rarely jokes; even "Cigaro," the hyperbolic sexual boast from "Mezmerize," turned out to be about greed and overconsumption: "Burning through the world's resources, then we turn and hide." System of a Down can get away with slinging a lot of messages as long as the music keeps pummeling.
