...I know this is a little early, but I'm just so fracking giddy about seeing them...
So who is seeing them in the upcoming week? Where? When!
I'll be at Roseland on Monday.
-
atp fri-sun.
-
i am bummed. sunday lineup is great but i gotta work sat-tue.
-
this still gives me chills.

-
I'll be there Monday. Can't freakin' wait.
I know there's a tickets thread too, but figured I'd mention this here -- I've got two extras for the Tuesday show that I'll sell for face...
-
Sold sold sold!!!!!!!!
I'll take one.
-
enjoy the shitty venue that is the Roseland.
-
Yeah, I hate Roseland, but I hate Hammerstein even more. I've at least seen shows at Roseland that I would consider to be good (Wilco, Ryan Adams, Weezer). Every show I've seen at Hammerstein other than last year's Wilco show has been atrocious.
-
So...guess I'm in for tuesday. :D
-
Rogo, I just gave a friend who may be interested in the other ticket your contact info.
-
Mr. P and I will be at the Saturday night show in Chicago.
-
Miss P and I will be in Chicago next Saturday to see them. :D
DON'T FORGET TO BRING YR EARPLUGS!!!
-
also, I apologize for any vomit inducing that simultaneous post may have caused... it was unintended.
-
Aragon...I'm finally realizing it's only a week away and getting the butterflies. A funny story...I'm going with my 2 sisters. Sister B is bringing her boyfriend. Sister A lives with scoundrel boyfriend who is cheating on her (he confessed in a drunken haze to Sister B's boyfriend). Well, Sister A finds 2 MBV tickets amongst the cheating boyfriend's stuff. He has no idea the rest of us will be at the show too. So it's going to be interesting to see if any drama unfolds when we run into the soundrel with his skanky girlfriend, who apparently is his high school crush. Dude is 41...some people just never grow up. Should be an entertaining evening all around.
-
i'm considering the Chicago show as well....how's the Aragon Ballroom??
-
still trying to figure out if i can make sunday night at ATP but it's not looking good. grumble grumble. anyone wanna buy my ticket? i'm on the way to the festival...

i have a very high tolerance to such cuteness, and my threshold is especially high today (for reasons that i'll spare y'all from)... so no probs here. in fact, it was kinda Sweet™

I haven't seen a show there since 2001 (Coldplay w/ Grandaddy, ha!), but I thought it was a cool venue. Very large GA theatre, basically. Imagine if DAR had no seats -- that's what the Aragon is, kinda.
-
5500 capacity, has a Moroccan feel because of cool turret/balcony things. MUCH better sound than it used to have, it was very bassy and muddy back in the early 90's. They've done a lot to correct that. I'm very amped at seeing MBV there, should be a very memorable evening. I wouldn't pass it up. But I really don't agree about the DAR without seats. People used to ballroom dance at the Aragon back in the day, and it's got much more character than DAR, it's got a little more of a cavernous feel to it.
-
Hot Chip are playing the Metro the next day! early show...who else is going? Ms. P?
-
going to roseland monday and tuesday...been waiting 15 years for this! i'm gonna pull a ggw on monday with half a tab.
-
I'll be at the Chicago show! And I'm still looking for one ticket, if anybody has one or knows anybody...let me know!
-
haha, "pull a ggw."
i think i'm photographing, which means i am upfront next to amps and speakers.
so i guess if my ears fucken blow up from this band, i'd rather it be them than anyone else. viva la shoegaze!
-
earplugs are your friend!
-
Sounds like they've Merzbow'd up their YMMR noise jams. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6xZgskezbk)
-
seriously. Brace yourself - well, your ears at least.
According to science, anything about 120 decibels is considered painfully bad for your ears...
at the reunion gigs in the UK, MBV peaked at 129.
The entire sound crew is required to wear earplugs, and at a few parts during the show, the head sound guy had to stand barefoot on a block of foam to stop his eyeballs from vibrating in his sockets.
I really want to see these guys.
-
"At a concert in Le Zenith in Paris on July 9 this year, the venue lowered the volume as French law states live concerts can be no louder than 106 decibels. During the customary deafening crescendo that is You Made Me Realise, the amplification on the bass drum and bass guitar was pulled. The band stopped playing and Shields is reported to have mimed the signing of papers, possibly referring to a clause in their contract that allows them to play at their own preferred volume."

I'll be at Roseland on Monday. Does anyone know if there is an opener?
Super psyched for this one.
-
Yes, Kevin Shields' brother's band.
Edit:
Okay, I've got the scoop.
The Wounded Knees
[Lifted details]"The Wounded Knees are Jimi Shields (Rollerskate Skinny, Lotus Crown, Martina Topley-Bird), Suzanne Thorpe (Mercury Rev, Forest for the Trees, thenumber46), and Phil Williams (Hopewell, Evil Twins)."[/end lift]
Originally, Spectrum (Sonic Boom's band) were supposed to open but, apparently, nepotism won out.
As a word of warning, besides taking good earplugs along with you, take caution with how much food and beverage you consume prior to the show. A friend of mine went to see their gig in Manchester and he said that it was so loud that all kinds of people were leaving because they couldn't tolerate the levels. People were fainting in the aisles and several were vomiting. Heard similiar reports from London.
You know, we fans of the band sound like a bunch of masochists.
One of these days, if my obnoxious new neighbors just below me keep up their crap, I'm going to pull a government Psyops like maneuver on their asses with some My Bloody Valentine! :D
-
Ticketmaster says Lilys are opening tuesday.
-
um ok...so what ARE good earplugs? I don't own any so I'm going to need some advice for Saturday.
-
They hand some out for free at the door.
But I have a pair of Etymotics which I bring everywhere. Only $12 and do a great job. You should probably have a pair regardless of whether or not you're seeing MBV.
-
i also swear by my etymotics, but for MBV i would use industrial-strength foam plugs. etymotics are rated at -20 dB, but i've seen foam ones reaching -28 or -30. go to a pharmacy and buy whatever plugs have the higher decibel-reduction rating.
-
How much should those run me?
-
foam plugs? they're cheap: ex1 (http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/shop_product_detail.jsp?filterBy=&skuId=145809&productId=145809&navAction=jump&navCount=3), ex2 (http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/shop_product_detail.jsp?filterBy=&skuId=317536&productId=317536&navAction=jump&navCount=3).
if you happen to live near a construction supply store or a well-stocked hardware store, you could ask them what they have in terms of ear plugs.
-
I'm bringing my etys and some major foam ones. maybe skewer the foams to the ends of the etys and shove as hard as I can. that's probably be as goood for my ears as none at all.

after sunday night, it doesn't matter how shitty the sound is in any venue, mbv's equipment will destroy any damn room. i've never heard noise sound so beautiful
jesus christ, one of the best shows ever. i might want to go on tuesday and see them again if i have a chance.
-
Holy. Fucking. Shit. I am so amped for this now.

So they are touring with their own PA. That's good to know; Roseland's sound is notoriously horrible.

Who needs tickets to MBV at the Aragon? My sister's boyfriend has 2 that he's trying to get rid of (preferably as a pair). Samantha, would that work for you? Private me your e-mail and I'll get the message to him. Thanks.

HAHA! Sounds like he's been busted! :D
-
Oh the stories I can tell you...actually he's got some medical reason why he can't go. Nothing serious, just weird. Like him.
-
Yeah, like showing up with the other lady would result in getting his ass kicked! Not too healthy.
Bearman, you always have good stories. Always!
-
I'm not telling you everything either. Looks like nobody needs tix from the dumbass since I haven't heard from anyone, so I'll go ahead and share.
He got pulled over last night in front of the house for speeding (going 40 in a 30 zone), but he unbuckled the seatbelt just as the cop walked up. So he got nailed for not having a seatbelt too, AND he got his license taken away. When we saw Queens of the Stone Age last October he lost his credit card AND his car. Yes, he was so fucked up he pulled a "Dude, where's my car?". And he's 40.
-
so last night they blew out the PA
sounded even better then when i saw them in london
-
I am green with jealousy and envy

i wanted to see these guys about 13 years ago...

bearman I definitely want one of those tickets if we can work it out! pm me your phone...and I MAYBE MIGHT POSSIBLY want the second ticket, have another friend who may come into town but doesn't know yet...
-
Just got back from last night.
Incredible show as expected. Sound quality was my biggest worry going into it but it was perfect from where I was (mezzanine). YMMR was one of the most, if not the most intense live music experiences I ever had. Chest-rattlingly awesome. :) And it went by really quick; definitely felt a lot shorter than it actually was. So yeah, the whole losing track of time thing is true.
I think they did cut a couple songs from the usual set they've been playing, though. Blown a Wish and Sueisfine. Wonder why that was. Also, I would've rather heard Lose My Breath instead of Cigarette in Your Bed but that's just being picky. :)
Oh and one reason why one would rather see them now as opposed to in the early 90's is that the ability for them to reproduce live what they did in studio is available to them now. Go back and listen to any older recordings; they all don't come close. The recordings I've heard and the show I saw last night matched everything on the albums note for note and with perfect clarity.
-
For Jaguar as requested:
Pics/setlist curtesy of Brooklyn Vegan... (http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2008/09/my_bloody_valen_10.html#more)
Edit: just read that YMMR was 18 minutes. Definitely the quickest 18 minutes ever.
-
Was there on Monday night and it was an incredible show. Set list pretty similar to that pictured on Brooklyn Vegan.
Here's Mondays:
I Only Said
When You Sleep
You Never Should
When You Wake
Cigarette in Your Bed
Come In Alone
Only Shallow
Thorn
Nothing More to Lose
To Here Knows When
Blown a Wish
Slow
Soon
Feed Me With Your Kiss
Sueisfine
YMMR
From what I remember, the didn't do Sueisfine, but that was the only omission.
Foam earplugs did the job, with finger assistance during the holocaust section. Allowed myself the etymotics during To Here Knows When. The holocaust section was seriously like standing in front of a jet engine. Enjoyed it immensely more than I thought I would.
I was right underneath the projector and they kept on having problems with it. It would take them a minute to get it back up. The main light guy was amped right before and during MBV's set. May me wonder if he had a little bump beforehand, cracked me up.
Excellent show and worth the MYC trip. Plus, I got a new pair of Fluevogs while I was up there, so all is good.
-
Are they doing "Honey Power" any more? I love that song. I'm a little bummed not to hear "Soft As Snow (But Warm Inside)" and "Several Girls Galore", but hey, I'm just happy to see them at all.
-
Soft as Snow would have been a treat.
-
Ummmm...so I guess there's hardly any merch left because people bought up everything at the other shows. WTF? They better print up some shit and have it shipped to them by the time they get to the Aragon. They could make a FORTUNE from shirts alone!

They'd better be making money. Most shirts were $30 and there was something for $125 (the ls button-up in one of the Vegan pics). The merch table was definitely swamped every time I passed it.
-
I read complaints that the vocals are not loud enough...what a bummer.
-
I'll agree that the vocals were low in the mix. But, I kinda went into it thinking that would be the case. I don't think that it took away from the overall experience all that much.
-
Do these people not realize what financial limbo America is in?

wow, the merch has a 25% markup from atp prices. i guess roseland(?) takes a large sum of the sales.
-
I sold my ticket to the Chicago show :( week ended up being a crazy week at work...working 16 hour days = fun (to be fair, I am making a video game so it sometimes IS fun)!!! ugh. pretty upset I can't go, hopefully they will come to the baltimore/dc area sometime!

They did Honey Power at the first show at the ICA but other than that, I think that's it.

i certainly do. accordingly, i'm suspending all bboard pursuits and returning to my day job until i see this crisis through. i challenge all other bboardees to do the same.

I'm glad you enjoyed the show, but it seems odd that a concertgoer would value a concert that "matched everything on the albums note for note."
Let alone the fact that with MBV's massive sound it would seem to be hard to discern individual notes...
-
Yeah maybe "note for note" wasn't the best word choice. There were just things I could hear well much moreso than on those old recordings. The lead guitar lines in "When You Sleep" and "I Only Said," for example.
Edit: Just came across the monday NYT interview with Kevin, part of which pretty much reiterated what I posted above:
During the remastering the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California made a big offer for a reunited My Bloody Valentine. ??We could actually buy equipment and rehearse properly and do it really well,? Mr. Shields said. ??That put the idea into our head. Last time we toured we never had equipment. It didn??t sound right. We didn??t have control of the environment. So we were kind of excited to play the songs properly.?
-
Ok, I wasn't trying to be snarky, I was just puzzled by your statement... note-for-note is what Britney does when she lipsynchs. :) Thanks for explaining.
-
ok, ended up going last night instead of monday...was pretty good...
i was really disappointed with the crowd though. most of them just stood there and didn't seem to be into the music at ALL. i mean come on. at least pretend to tap your foot or something. it ruined the first part of it.
i had my earplugs in and the sound wasn't as intense as i had wished so i took them out after the first few songs, and kept them out until about five minutes into you made me realise, of course...my trachea was uncontrollably vibrating. i just closed my eyes, breathed, and meditated. it was pretty sweet. when it ended i had this unexplainable feeling, like i had just been spiritually cleansed or something...it was a magical evening.
the brooklynvegan photos are fucking awful. don't look at them. look at mine. and look at brightest young things tomorrow, they will be up, + a review :)

I hate crowds like that, too, but it seems almost appropriate for MBV. That's why they called it shoegaze, right? Well, it was the performers who gazed at their shoes, but surely the '80 audiences were pretty subdued too.
-
80's audiences weren't subdued. Anyone remember "slam-dancing"? And from the whole late 80's/early 90's Brit-era, people went apeshit at concerts. One of the wildest events to this day I've ever seen was an Inspiral Carpets show back in 1991 at the Metro in Chicago. There was no opening band, and by the time they came out on stage, the audience was pretty antsy to begin with...and once they started to play it was like something out of a Black Flag show. People get thrown around, there was stage-diving, bouncers tackling guys...and a big part of it I think was how psychedelic the slide/light show was. It was like Willy Wonka on steroids. I'll never forget that night as long as I live. So yeah, I can kind of relate when an audience is lame, but sometimes it's nice to not have to worry about getting a Doc Marten boot in the head.
-
On further reading, I see you meant 80's MBV audiences. Good question...they probably weren't totally mellow, but not wild either. They were probably too far out their heads on E.
-
MBV 'I Only Said' in 1991. Not a subdued crowd!

"i was really disappointed with the crowd though. most of them just stood there and didn't seem to be into the music at ALL. i mean come on. at least pretend to tap your foot or something. it ruined the first part of it."
for the most part, that's how atp was for the first few songs but two pits on each side of the stage emerged and i managed to join in on the fun. but if their was one thing i noticed was how alot of the females in the crowd simply looked sorta pissed and bored. they were the ones usually walking away. at one point during the 3rd song or so, people kept cheering for vocals between songs and shields whispered into the mic that "you can't always get what you want" followed by some british dude in the front yelling "what the fuck do you want, karaoke?". well said.
but talking to the few audience members that i did afterwards, their was mixed reactions. one guy thought the show was great and better then the last time he saw them but was disappointed with the audience. he described how back in 91 or so, when they opened for dinosaur jr, the crowd went completely ape shit and the entire floor turned into a pit. a group of 17 year hated it and felt mogwai not only played better, but sounded better. the group i came acquainted with during the last three days loved it though.
and i completely agree with the spiritually cleansed feeling afterwards. i had my eyes closed nearly the entire time, just focusing on how textured the sound was and trying to find patterns within them. i've never heard something so loud, with such force, yet having such fidelity. during "do you realize", i held my hand in the air and i could literally feel how heavy the air was from the sound. very very intense. the show felt like 5 minutes for me. i have to find a way to see them again.
-
Shields said in that NYT interview that they paid 200k pounds for the equipment being used on this tour. Makes sense that they'd use their own PA; no standard concert venue PA could withstand such a beating.
-
Damn, that sounds awesome. I so wish I could see them. I should have got a ticket to the New York show, but I didn't really want to make the trip by myself. Chicago was really tempting too. I guess I'm just hoping beyond hope that this is just the beginning of some kind of MBV resurgence and that they'll eventually play the 9:30 Club. I'm worried that if they don't get a good audience reaction though that they'll just pack it in again. Any rumors of adding more dates to the tour or having a follow on tour?
-
i think it's been mentioned somewhere that once the us tour wraps up, they're heading back to the studio to work on finishing some of the unreleased material as well as a proper followup album.
-
yes...i was speaking with the band's personal photographer/friend at the show, and he told me that this is not going to be the end...that there are definite plans to do another album and play more shows. !!!
and speaking of subdued females at the show...
when i went, it seemed like half the ladies there were dragged by their husbands and were hating it. they were covering their ears and looked like they were experiencing the worst thing ever. it was such a bummer. roseland was SO crowded, it was like...anywhere i stood was behind a wall of people, and it is the biggest buzzkill when you are super into the music and all of the people in front of you are just standing there.
-
Cool...so we can keep badgering seth to bring them here in the "hey Seth" thread. :D
Oh and re:the vocals, they were exactly what I expected. Distant and ghostly yet beautiful.
-

That's why I stood right behind the soundboard. Pretty decent line of sight and nobody directly in front of me to bother me. Was a little less crowded in the back as well.
-

Yeah, but if they're going to finish recording an album and then release it before touring again, we're talking probably almost a year before that happens. Of course, it can't be too early to "hey Seth", just to be sure.

Recordings of the NYC shows are up.

Tonight's the night...!!! Who's buyin me a drink?
-
me!!! Got 2 extras....pm me
-
Damnit...I totally should've made the trip out there.
I wanna see em again!
-
mother of God...what an unbelievable show!! Met one of MBV's most loyal fans, who flew from Sydney to London, saw them in Chicago (she flew in from Calgary) and she is off to SF tomorrow. Will report more later, but it was easily the loudest show I have ever seen. "Slow" sounded fucking amazing!!
-
holy sweet mother of god. that was the loudest, brightest, most sensory assaulting show i have ever seen easily. mr. p and i were only about 12 people deep in the audience, right in front of kevin shields.
they prolly played about 80 minutes or so... ymmr claimed the final notes and has mentioned before it didnt really seem as long as it was. one guy beside us wasn't wearing earplugs, he looked like he was in agony. duur.
the stage seemed really high. but that was all the better for the shorter folks at the show. overall amazing.
-
I still don't know how to put into words what I saw on Saturday night. I know that it's cliche to say that My Bloody Valentine is a great band, that "Loveless" is a work of art, but until I had the opportunity to see them in concert I really didn't appreciate what it's like to feel music hit your body like waves slamming against you when you're in the ocean. The volume initially seemed excessive, self-indulgent, even comical. But by the end, it all just made sense. MBV was there to be seen, heard, and FELT. And it wasn't just a nudge...they were there to rattle every bone in your body. I've never heard anything that loud in my life, but everything leading up to "You Made Me Realize" was just gorgeous. But that song needed to be experienced in the flesh. You cannot make a live My Bloody Valentine record. Nothing will substitute for being there. I was actually standing right in front of the PA. I was so overheated and I took ice cubes and ran them all on my head, then the breeze from the speakers cooled me down. The vibration made it tough to breathe, but at that point all you can do was just try to absorb the sound. By the end, I've got to say that it was one of those nights you just know you'll never forget. I still can't believe I was there. Samantha, great to meet you, sorry we got separated...keep me posted on your future shows.

chicago setlist:

When You Sleep
You Never Should
When You Wake
Cigarette in Your Bed
Come in Alone
Only Shallow
Thorn
Nothing Much to Lose
To Here Knows When
Slow

Feed Me With Your Kiss

nice to hear that the shows were amazing.....wish I could have gone!!! Guess I will just have to wait for a DC area show in the next few years......hey seth
-
Thanks for posting the set list Miss P!
And Bearman...it was my fault we got separated. That night will go down in history as the night I consumed more alcohol than I ever have in one night my life. God.
Sorry to be a downer, but I have to say, I did think the volume was excessive, if only because when I took a "peak" with my earplugs, the sound was IMMACULATE. I've never heard such brilliance. It seemed a shame to have to fuck up the sound with lousy earplugs. I found that disappointing and wish I could've stood to listen without, but HOLY SHIT it was loud! I also have to complain that the venue sucked, it was ridiculously hot and there was no good place to stand...we finally stood in the very back where it was cooler and we could see better than when we were halfway up. And then my last complaint is YMMR...I'm sorry, but the "freight train" did not need to be 15 or whatever minutes. After awhile it was confusing, and I would've liked more music instead of all that noise...
That said, it was a beautiful show, Miss P said it @ "most sensory assaulting show." Absolutely one of a kind. And To Here Knows When was amazing. Like a religious experience. Listening to the albums from now on is just going to be kind of...flat. The show was over too soon.
-
I thought everyone knew going into the show that YMMR will contain a 20+ minute noise jam.
It pretty much became a staple during the Loveless tour. Did you really feel as though it lasted long? Felt like 5 minutes to me.
-
I realised there would be a jam...but I didn't realise it would be a continuous freight train, although I was warned about the freight train itself. Just not the extent...and yeah, it felt like it lasted forever...I really just wanted to hear more of everything else!
-
Gotcha.
Did you spring for the Etymotics or just use the plugs they provided?
I used my Etymotics and while they did cut down significantly on the db's, I don't think any sound quality was compromised. Was going to compare the two sets but no way was I going to pull the pair that I already had in out during that show and risk any hearing loss.
-
I completely forgot any earplugs and used my gf's superfoam things. They definitely did compromise the sound. That was the downer of the evening, because I did pull them out to test the waters, and was just blown away by the perfection of the sound...just why did it have to be so LOUD? Oh well, can only blame myself for not trying different ear plugs. That was the very first time I'd ever worn any at all! So I am uneducated.
-
I started off with the super earfoam ones and switched to my Etymotics...smartest decision I've made in a long time. My sister and her bf used a different kind and their ears were ringing even WITH the earplugs. So I think that in the future I'll have to get a spare set of Etymotics. Those things are great and I felt like I got the full MBV effect even with them in.
-
I'm listening to the Chicago show now.
It's the best one I've heard sound quality-wise thus far.
Vocals are low in the mix but that goes without saying. Everything else, however sounds perfect. Roseland (especially tuesday) sadly didn't come out nearly as good on tape.
-
So Monday from Roseland is poor as well? That's too bad. Was hoping to get a copy of it.
-
It's ok.
Tuesday is too muddy, though.
I'll try to upload monday today.

This is exactly why we call it Bliss. Such a wonderful experience. I've always said that being in the presence of the Bliss is like a sonic massage. A live Airiel show will do that to you albeit not to the level of a MBV massaging.
Betty, consider yourself annointed. ;)

Got my tickets for Richmond and am absurdly excited already. Everything I've read suggests that earplugs will be more or less mandatory and that it's worth dropping $10-12 on a set of Etys instead of just spending $1 on some crappy foam ones at CVS. Accurate?
-
You could also use the ones they provide for free.
I prefer my ER's, though.

not to mention the ones they provide aren't too shabby and don't completely drown out everything.
though if you go to a lot of shows, get a pair of ety's and keep it on you anyways. you wont regret it.
-
believe it or not, i actually didn't wear earplugs during both roseland shows...and i didn't experience any worse ear-ringing than i do when i play drums with a full band. i didn't want to experience MBV with anything blocking the pure sound, so i decided to watch from the middle, towards the back. i didn't feel it was necessary to be so close (and it's much easier to get a beer when you don't have to wade through a crowd). it was loud as fuck, to be sure, and if it were any louder i would have needed earplugs, but i think i was in the perfect position to listen. so...if you want to be close, definitely wear earplugs, but if you stand towards the back, you could probably get away with not wearing them.
i wish this show was on 7/31 because i would see them again. i have polvo and obits at johnny brenda's on 7/30, and seeing polvo again is just as high a priority for me as MBV...and much more financially feasible!
-
mr. pretentious and i will be there.

your kidding right?
obits is the worst project by rick
and the new polvo is embarrassing
your passing up mbv for that
uhhh
-
i enjoyed the obits show more than the forgettable polvo show at the black cat...
-
Polvo were great at the black cat! Still yet to hear the new stuff.
-
your kidding right? nope.
obits is the worst project by rick true. i wouldn't pass up MBV for obits.
and the new polvo is embarrassing i respectfully disagree.
your passing up mbv for that yes.
keep in mind, polvo is one of my favorite bands, and i have them playing what is essentially my house. they're not just at any venue. and i thought they kicked major ass at the black cat last year.
different strokes for different folks, i guess. you'd shoot a wad in kurt vile's overrated face while i'd save mine for faust in september. kurt's alright, but i don't see the big deal myself.
-
thats cool, its also good to know the nu polvo sounds like nu metal math rock with a hint of the atari's cover of boys of summer
http://downloads.pitchforkmedia.com/Polvo%20-%20Beggars%20Bowl.mp3
i'll be jerkin off to that "overrated" kurt vile with his neil young and jack rose rip offs while linkin park and polvo do a tour together
enjoy
-
oh and mentioning faust and kurt vile in the same sentence much less how good they are compared to eachother is retarded and you even know that.
-
also does anyone know how many people this place holds

The National DOES have an early entry deal with the eatery at the corner. Check their web site for details. The food is pretty decent.
-
Is that a VA thing? The Norva has a similar deal.
Good to know, though. Thanks.
-

Not so much a VA thing as a Rising Tide Productions thing, which owns both restaurants and venues.
I don't really think MBV is one of those shows that would be made better by being right up front. Middle of the floor where the sound would be optimal would be better.
-
I was thinking upstairs.
Isn't the sound best up there?
Was on the floor for The National and the sound was all boomy.
-

In my opnion -- which I'm sure several others will disagree with as is the case with all opinions about venue sound quality -- the sound has gotten alot better at the National. Up front is obviously the worst, but no noticable difference between the back of the floor, the mezzanine, and the balcony the last 5 shows I've been to there.
-
It has been a good year or longer since I've been there.
-
I will make a last minute decision on this show.. I'd really rather not go to Richmond not only cause of the drive but because I like to avoid that town and perhaps they will add a show in DC or something... Given Richmond has about 40 people with good musical taste I doubt this will sell out (note: I'm not trying to be "snarky"...just the way I see it..).

I was on the rail for Mogwai last year and thought the sound was fine. But i'm not a sound freak or anything.
-
I've since heard it and the production almost ruins it for me. It sounds like Bob Rock was in the studio with them. Gross...
and the new polvo is embarrassing i respectfully disagree.
-
For what it's worth to any slackers out there...Ticketmaster is sold out and ticketstobuy.com has less than 20 remaining.
-
very cool to know. i'm glad it sold out now and not immediately.
