Finally some sense...
Albarn: 'Make Doherty history'
29/07/2005 - 10:03:30
Blur singer Damon Albarn is starting a campaign to 'make Pete Doherty history' - because the troubled rocker's musical achievements do not justify his media hype.
Doherty has been a regular feature in British tabloid newspapers since quitting The Libertines last year, frequently giving tell-all interviews to the press about his drug problems and rocky relationship with supermodel Kate Moss.
Albarn is amazed by the amount of attention Doherty receives, because his most recent band Babyshambles' sole single only got to number eight in the UK charts, while his highest chart entry with The Libertines was number 11 with Don't Look Into The Sun in August 2003.
Albarn fumes: "What does matter is that Babyshambles have only ever released one song - one song!
"People talk about this great talent, but there's nothing to him. He's a mess. I'm starting a campaign to 'Make Doherty History'. He's well over-rated."
Doherty dumped Babyshambles last weekend after only a year together.

PETE QUESTIONED BY POLICE
PETE DOHERTY has been questioned by police over an alleged assault.
The singer arrived by appointment at a police station in north London yesterday(August 3).
He was quizzed in connection with allegations over an incident in a pub last week.
He??s been bailed until next month.
-
At this point, all this constant posting the latest news on pete is just furthing what we're complaining about...but here's this...
ELTON: 'PETE WAS NERVOUS'
ELTON JOHN has claimed that PETE DOHERTY??s nerves were to blame for the quality of his performance at LIVE8, and described the BABYSHAMBLES singer as ??a mess?.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph today (August 4), Sir Elton said: ??It's really sad. He's so young I don't think that he's going to listen to anybody. But I don't think the people around him set a good example, which is a shame.?
John revealed that he and Pete practised their cover of ??Children Of The Revolution?? for the London leg of Live8 until it was ??tip-top, perfect.?
??I have to be very discreet what I say, but I just think he was really nervous on the day,? he said. ??But, you know, he had his chance to do it and he came on? at least he looked great!"

i really like the libertines ... saw them at black cat and 930, they put on a hell of a live show and their two albums are pretty damn good

Do you not think he's insinuating that Pete was high or fucked up?
Yeah, it was nerves... And Jeff Skilling resigned from Enron 4 months before they went bankrupt because he wanted to spend more time with his family, especially his two sons, David and....something that starts with a J.

??It??s not a question of professionalism. It??s much more simple than that. This is the greatest group in the world and what we??re not going to do is let anyone, Pete Doherty, Liam Gallagher or Elvis, fuck it all up.?
fantastic quote

What makes the quote best is that it is Liam saying it.

i agree. i went to those shows too and enjoyed them immensely. the thing i don't understand is how pete managed to completely break up the libertines. at both dates, the band sounded great WITHOUT pete. i thought carl was perfectly capable of carrying the show by himself.
-
I agree that both shows were great. Yet, never having seen them with Pete, I can't help but wonder how much better it might have been with him. He had talent, great charisma, and he and Carl worked beautifully together back in the day, feeding off each others energy. Notice the past tense of course. He's a complete mess now, and just loves the attention from being the UK's favorite junkie. There was a certain shambolic nature to the Libs from the get go, which was great, a little unsteadiness can go long way towards creating a very dynamic and exciting young band all the more wonderful....but I cannot approve of the depths to which Pete has sunk, it's not rock and roll anymore, it's just stupidity.
-
maybe damon can challenge him to a soccer match
-
There was this NME parody site a few months back and it's main story was something like "SHOCKER: Babyshambles/Libertines star Doherty likes Sandwiches!" I nearly died laughing because it's the kind of dreck they'd publish.

That Doherty, even though he's a crackhead, gets all that friggin' press. They seem to report when the man pees, I tell ya.

From Filter Magazine (http://www.filter-mag.com/news/interior.2537.html):
"I Wanna Be a Babyshamble"
by Danielle Allaire | 08.08.2005
According to the UPI news service, the life and times (and trials and tribulations and drug deals) of former Libertine, now Babyshambles front man Pete Doherty will be aired as a reality TV show on BBC.
Pete's antics have been documented freverently by the British tabloids after his luke-warm performance at London's Live 8 show and failing to turn up for shows with Oasis and the band's Big Gay Out performance. However, the self-proclaimed urchin did make it to a recent show with new band Babyshambles in tow that was reminiscent of the Libertines' impromptu guerilla shows. The band played in a small pub and charged only 2 pounds.
The show will be based on footage from a four-month filming duration. The show will cover everything from his career, to his relationship with on-again/off-again girlfriend Kate Moss to his drug addictions.
The producer of the show entitled, "Who The Fuck Is Pete Doherty?", has said, "The film covers everything from Pete's arrest to drugs and his romance with Kate. It's sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. There are scenes where it is quite apparent that he is taking drugs and is high."
-
It just gets funnier and funnier...
According to reports, during the set Doherty vomited and threw a vodka bottle into the crowd. (http://www.nme.com/news/113362.htm)

I think we should have a whip-round and send money so Mr. Doherty can buy more and more drugs, and hopefully o.d. and die so we won't have to hear about this wanker ever again.
