I enjoyed Point Reyes (on the coast a little less than an hour north of the city)

If you like really good food, two of the best meals I have ever had have been at Manka's Inverness Lodge up near Point Reyes, and at Gary Danko in the city.

And no trip to SF is complete without the obligatory visit to Amoeba.

3 of my fave restaurants:

 1) The Slanted Door (in the Ferry Building...great food, nice decor, relatively moderate in price, but you need reservations).
 2) Fresca (W. Portal...great Peruvian food. Probably a good idea to get reservations too.)
 3) Cafe Panisse (in Berkeley...the birthplace of California cuisine.) Great for lunch, reservations also a must.

You MUST check out the Amoeba Records near Haight/Ashbury. Great place. If you have a car, drive up to Twin Peaks to check out the view of the city. Pretty spectacular.

Friday night Team USA is playing Japan in a friendly at AT&T Park.

You just missed the best surf contest on the planet at Mavericks about 30 miles south of here.  That was insane.  But the waves are still up so definitely take PCH from SF to at least Monterrey.  The weather has been amazing for the past 3 days.  75 and sunny...

Oh, and maybe you can help Venerable move in - he's arriving this week.

If you need any specific help, send me a PM or email vansmack@msn.com.

popscene lately has had some great bands playing - 330 ritch street b/w king & townsend if im correct. and the DJ is awesome! (but im a bit biased).

sterling winery - think its in napa - is a gorgeous winery with views of the whole surrounding area. and great wines, i forgot how many you got to taste and what the cost was, but very worth it.

i have a soft spot for occidental (towards bolinas), and they have great restaurants (union hotel and negris), with great prices!

YES, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND HEAD TO AMOEBA

while i'm not familiar with SF at all (drive to LA, and then ask again); there is an Amoeba in Hollywood.  and, though it is apparently like twice the size of the two SF ones, it is HUGE which means that the others can't be that small...
they have everything used, some things very cheap, and i usually just wait till i'm at amoeba and then bring back like 348932874243 cds.  the place is a music-nerd's wet dream.
