on the iPod subject
« on: January 12, 2005, 01:30:00 am »
I'm thinking of getting one for my friend's bday.  What are your opinions on it? Where should I get it from? He has an mp3 player already, but it doesn't hold much...

I've seen some deals on the HP versions (up to $40 less) but they only do the 20 and 40 gig versions. They come w/ a 1 year warranty vs. the apple 90 day one, though.

That must be some friend to dish out the cash for an iPod! I had to get married to find someone willing enough to get me one as a present  :)

iPod mini's are dumb.  for only 50 dollars more you get get a minimum 16 more gigs.  paying that much for 4 gigs is kind of a waste of money.

I agree @ the mini...plus I don't see him carrying around some cutesy pastel thing.  I'm going to get the 20gig I think, at the apple store.  (I hope he doesn't read this) he is my boyfriend in everything but the name, and sometimes we ARE "married" it's a strange relationship

but yeah the ipod is a sweet gift.  he won't be getting anything else for a long, long time.

and ONE MORE THING...I saw you can get something engraved on the back but I'm not sure what I want to put that wouldn't be cheesy...any ideas?  what about just his name?

nope it has to be sent away.............

i'm not that keen on the engraving thing though........

although having it engraved to say
 " i'm a dumbass motherf@cker"
 or
"i have shite taste in music"
could be a laugh as a gift for someone....................

If you're a student or a government employee you can get a discount through the apple store...It's not a huge amount (usually about $20 off) but it's something.

I'd recommend the apple store definitely...They just opened a small one in Bethesda, away from the mall situation.
