Beck is playing Newport Folk Festival.  I didn't like the idea of releasing an artist name daily but with the suprises of Amanda Palmer, Feist and Beck it has been kind of fun.  Avett Brothers aren't my cup o tea but overall this festival is turning out to be quite impressive for it's size.

Got Haggis?

Is it just me, or does it seem like there are WAY too many festivals nowadays? It'd be easier for the quality to improve if you had fewer festivals and less chances for the Red Hot Chili Peppers to headline.

Festivals would be great if they were a la carte, like cable.

I think I enjoy festivals more when that don't try to throw in every single genre...6 stages is just too much. Riotfest Philly 2 years ago was perfect for me. Great for the old dude who wants to devote one afternoon and evening to music and can spend the rest of the day recovering from it. 2 stages to bounce back and forth, you could see every band playing and it wasn't overly crowded. I liked Treasure Island in SF for similar reasons. Easy to get to, and not mobbed and overwhelmed by too many people.

For Outside Lands, I always wait to see how the schedule lines up.  The list of bands is fairly useless.

It might be a good weekend to go on vacation.

I think chaz is the person who had a friend that was involved with the chili peppers incident at patriot center?  Or was that someone else in here?  If it is, I can see why he hates them.

I love that story. A security guy in Chicago once told me how 311 had a bunch of younger gals on their bus (lord knows what they were doing) and their parents were waiting around for them, pissed off. Then there was a huge altercation. RHCP is just 311 with better management.

it must suck to have done "so much" with your life . . . and have so much hatred for people who have.
