i had some amazing beers last week in dallas, the two highlights were:

- Deep Ellum Dreamcrusher Double Rye IPA (info): mr. ford would LOVE this one.  gawd, it almost made a hop-head out of me.  the rye gives this one a mild toasty biscuit flavor to go along with the bitterness.  i got 2 pints before it sold out... at an unsuspecting 9.7%, that was probably a good thing.  draft pints were $6 (it was launch night) otherwise it sells for $14 or more per 22oz, when you can find it.  i've had other offerings from Deep Ellum and i thought they were merely ok but this one is worth tracking down.  unfortunately i don't think they distribute very widely.  yet.

- Boulevard Chocolate Ale (info) - they've mastered the use of bitter chocolate instead of hops.  color was remarkably light & clear.  so damn tasty, probably because it was a lot maltier than anything i've ever had in the genre.  really unique.  bonus: it was glass night so i got to keep my Boulevard Brewery pint glass.

Looks like KBS is starting to pop up in stores. No word on any DC locations, but I saw a tweet that Massachusetts only got 45 cases total.

My wife just picked up a 64 oz growler of Nugget Nectar for $8 and one of Double Trouble for $10. Woohoo.

And the deal is good at all NoVA Whole Foods with draft lines.

Half price growler refills this Friday only at Whole Foods.

Not sure if it applies to all Whole Foods with draft lines, but I know it does to Vienna and Springfield.

If anyone is into spiced beer or molé.
New Belgium's Cocoa Molé is pretty damn tasty, especially for pairing.
Get some queso blanco or panela and some tortillas and you're set.
It's got a little heat to it so I wouldn't pair it with something too spicy.

I found KBS at Total Wine last night.  They sold me 1.  1 beer that is.  They said that they had 3 cases being sold as 72 individual beers.

i am completely not a fan of that tactic.  one of my shops tries that now and again.  i get the desire to "let everyone taste" and i guess i have to applaud that . . . but one beer?  do you drink it or just stare at it?  i wrote to founders and asked them why don't you just brew the damn beer more than just once and let it be a quad release?  jeez, is that so hard.  think of the jobs . . . think of the money to be made.

dogfish head realized that releasing 120 minute again, was very profitable.

$5.99 per beer.  I really thought he was joking when he handed me 1 beer.  The good news is that Double Trouble was almost overstocked, they had 6 or so cases.
