I would listen to The Eagles over Jimmy Buffet any day of the week and twice on Sunday.  And that's not a defense of The Eagles...

Oh, crap! I think I would kill myself if forced with that decision; although, I think, if push comes to shove, I'd probably have to agree with you.

One thing though, I would have to list The Eagles as The Eagles/The Doobie Brothers since they sound exactly the same to me and could never tell the difference between the two. Have always avoided both so I could never even remember who did which particular songs and never, ever want to know.

All the parrot heads alone are enough to push the Buffet thing way over the edge even without the crappy music.

my roommate in college was muslim, prayed 5 times a day, did not listen to music, did not party, did not do anything . . . except be from a very rich family, and loved making that point known.  consider yourself lucky.

@Hutch - Oh, man. You have my sympathy. Such dull taste for a college student. I'd have to break out some good old school punk or other hard noise drivers just to balance out the doldrums.

@Walkie - Sympathy to you too. Thankfully, not all Muslims are like that. So how did he react when you played your music? Did he try to force you to not play any around him or did he find ways to sway you to play stuff he'd like to rock out to without actually going full out playing it himself?

There are six guys in Wilco. My friend can vouch for the other five being nice guys.

Point taken on the Tweedy/Farrar deal. That was 15+ years ago though.

Surely you could hear how Jack White or RHCP could inspire more of a love/hate reaction than Wilco?

I mean, my wife played wilco for her dad and his reaction was "Eh, they're not trying to blow anybody away, but they're pretty good."

Javk White and RHCP ARE trying to blow people away. And people are either going to love them or hate them for it.

Plus, the guys in Wilco are actually nice people, or so I've been told. You get the sense that JW and RHCP, are  well, maybe not as nice.

I can understand someone listening to Wilco and going "meh".

But c'mon... listing them as THE worst band?... must be a reaction to either their critical or fan acclaim.

Hey, if people are going to call Jack White or the Red Hot Chili Peppers the "worst" then anything goes I guess...

I'm going with Kurt Vile (solo) after that horrendous show earlier this month. Rusted Root also comes to mind....

Tweedy a nice guy??? What about the stories as relates to Farrar? If we believe Farrar, Tweedy was putting the moves on his wife! Lets not even talk about the way the whole Jay Bennett thing was handled.

My impression is Tweedy must have one of the bigger egos going in music. He couldn't even get along with Billy Bragg and thats kind of hard to do! :)

And I can't recall all that well but vaguely seem to remember a Tweedy solo show at the 930 (late 90s/early 00s) where he was less than amiable with the audience...

There is far more evidence of Tweedy not being a nice guy than Jack White!

The reason your inlaw thinks Wilco is "pretty good" is why don't like them since Jay Bennett left.. all about virtuosity but no balls.

Ask the guy from the Von Bondies how nice he thinks Jack White is.

^^^ Jack White comes off as the nicest dude. I've never heard stories of him being a dick. I'm sure there are stories though...

How many ex-co-workers have you accumulated in the last 15 years? How many ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers are there? How many more ex-wives does Javck White have than Jeff Tweedy?

Dude, I'm glad your friend, you say, can "vouch" the other guys are nice.. I couldn't care less.. I doubt anyone cares whether the current Wilco hired hands are nice guys. You've seriously taken this thread way off topic. First with your purely speculative theory that the reason some don't like Jack White is because he is not a nice guy and now with this crap about the rest of Wilco being nice guys.

I have no idea why some people on this board don't like Jack White.. I'm guessing because they're "hipsters" and can't bring themselves to like anything that sells. Certainly thats the case with Azaghal who has a deep fear of any artist that can sell out something bigger than a living room. In any case, it matters not.

Jack White has made and continues to make great music. Heck he just produced Tom Jones! How much cooler than that can it get???  ;D   Is he a nice guy? I have  no idea but I seriously doubt his being nice or not nice has anything to do with hipsters not liking his music. In any case, I learned long ago to separate the person from the art. I've met musicians who are jerks and that doesn't stop me from liking the music, if its good of course.

It would be even cooler if Mavis Staples asked him to produce her.  ;D

Maybe people dislike Jack White because they prefer well crafted pop songs over guitar showboating, and prefer unintrusive singing over guys whose voice sounds like a dying cat.

That's my reason for putting him in the 20 worst, regardless of how many records he sells, ex-wives he accumulates, or indie dorks he beats up.

And for the record, I love Loretta Lynn and classic country and have more many years, but Van Lear Rose sucked imo.

Do I really need to list off the sold out 930 and theater shows I saw for you?

Can I help it if most acts who play arenas and sheds and sell records in the millions in the last 10 years produce garbage?

Yeah, people don't listen to Rock N Roll for their ripping guitar solo's. Fuck all that shit! I think what Rock N Roll lacks these days is good fucking rock riffs and insane solo's. Seeing Jack White live multiple times has been a fucking experience because he owns guitar. Like seeing Josh Homme live, theyr improvisational skills are amazing, how Josh and Troy go back and forth and how Jack and Brendan go back and forth. It's truly awe striking. To me at least. I enjoy a SHOW when I pay 30$ to see a band. I don't want to pay 30$ to listen to a record be not so greatly reproduced while crammed in a room with 1200 people.
