gawd, finally heard the Brinsley Schwarz original and just doesn't hold a candle to Declan MacManus version

version of what?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_u2OK_IKw0

perhaps.

That's what I thought. I'll take Nick Lowe over Elvis on any song, any day of the week. I love the fat drummer in that video. When was the last time you saw a fat drummer?

I once saw Nick do this song solo acoustic at a Borders somewhere in Maryland. There were only 20 or so people there. He finished with it (and it was great), and the fat old lady next to me started exclaiming "He didn't do Cruel to Be Kind! He didn't do Cruel to Be Kind!"

2 things
1.  NL is great, but I think the BS original is just flat, boring. and  frankly an unmemorable song.  EC  for me his version is vital, visceral and essential.  would easily make my top 100 list
2. The one take away from the Brinsely video...Loved that drummer :)

242 as well.  Which is pretty respectable given my complete ignorance of the hip-hop genre.

I blew a couple of those indie bands.
I must admit, I got a LOT of guesses right, simply by listening to the song and matching it to the aesthetic of its album cover.

He probably would've been totally on-board if she'd only used her last name.

Raffi Apologizes to the New Pornographers

The children?s music icon had said he ?strongly objects? to their name

Yesterday, children?s music icon Raffi tweeted that he ?strongly objects? to the New Pornographers? band name. He clarified his belief that ?porn? is ?not a word to normalize in public conversation.? In response, New Pornos frontman Carl Newman sent out a series of tweets, including jokes about his 5-year-old son?s reaction to the situation. Raffi has now apologized to the New Pornographers, his representatives have told Pitchfork. In a message to Newman, he said, ?In a fleeting moment I reacted to a word, which I wrote about in my book Lightweb Darkweb. My Tweet was without context, on a gig night, Not cool. I apologize, Meant no disrespect to the band, its music, or its fans. RC.? Pitchfork has reached out to the New Pornographers? representatives for comment.

Just remember this moment in a few years when both Neko Case and Raffi have been gunned down as a result of this music feud.

Honestly a murderous rap battle seems cooler than 2 musicians having a kid together. Avril Lavigne and the Nickleback guy already did that and that kid sucks.
