What I don't understand about kick starter is that if these projects are really so important, why wouldn't the creator just use their trust fund or get their parents to take out a line of credit against one of their vacation homes? I feel the very fact they're on kick starter is confirmation it's not important.

"Keep Ott in the studio until his next album is finished."
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/529765689/keep-ott-in-the-studio-until-his-next-album-is-fin

Ott is one of the bigger names in psychedlelic dub/psybient/bass-heavy chillout/slow electronic music to smoke weed to/etc.  his last album was released in 2011.  touring is his only form of income so he needs to spend most of the year on the road and thus he can't find time in the studio to produce a new album.  his offer: if fans raise 10,000 (~$17k), he'll lock himself in the studio for 6 months and record a new album.  the goal was met in less than 24 hours.

Not a big fan of kickstarter stuff but this might be something I'd like to contribute to.

That Icons poster is something I'd love to have.  Can't swing that, though.

I'm not calling the person that started the kickstarter stupid, I'm calling the people that donated to him stupid.
