Can we please cut ties with this county already? Or are we stuck?

Sadly, in Middle East diplomacy post 1979, one is forced to choose between either Saudi Arabia or Iran.  Pick your poison or the lesser of two evils, and given Iranian actions post revolution, it wasn't a hard decision to make.  That line is blurring. Daily.

Ah yes, the wonderful Iranians. With their gay executions.

Saudi Arabia makes Iran look like Sesame Street...

I like what the President has done... he's given Saudi Arabia and Israel the middle finger....its very bold but its a very dangerous game to play and nobody knows how it will end up.. but for sure he's trying to realign the US away from its usual Israel/Saudi Arabia suckupage in trying to engage with Iran instead of buying into the Saudi/Israel "Iran is the devil" line...

But its a complex world and none of them are angels... the Saudis and their gulf allies, and Israel are ticked off as can be though....

Of course if the Republicans win we will fall back into old habits... if Hillary wins who knows...

I also wonder about falling oil prices.. I just don't buy that falling demand explains it adequately.. I think the Saudis are flooding the market to make Iran pay figuring Iran can't take it....it makes no sense to me how oil can be over 100$ a barrel a few years ago and now below $30....

I mean the price of oil right now might be the cheapest (adjusted for inflation) that it has ever been in my lifetime....sure I remember paying 87 cents a gallon but that was over 20 years ago....
the impact such a low price of oil is having/will have on these crazy nations is worrying..but I find it hard to think its a bad thing even though it could blow it all up..

It's down to $1.74 in my hood...that's as cheap as I ever remember it since the 90's
and I feel like adjusted for inflation possibly the lowest in my life time (b 71)

Filled up at lunch at $1.61. The Costco/Sams Club membership-discount type places I pass are down in mid $1.50s.

No, it's not just demand, though that is decreasing as cars are becoming more fuel efficient.  It's supply as America is flooding its own market with oil produced in America.  Thus the Saudi's have to find new clients and OPEC no longer has the stranglehold on price.  If the Saudi's want to find a new buyer of their oil, they have to be competitive and lower their price in Asia, because the last thing the Saudi's want (which the rest of OPEC doesn't understand) is for America to remove it's oil export ban and start selling to Asia.
