i realize that i'm about to ask for perspective from a bunch of people who probably lack it, but here goes anyways: anyone else think that echostage might be a bit big, as far as a venue choice?

before people freak out: i know how seminal they were to indie rock, how much they mean to the minority of music aficionados that populate this board, blah blah blah... that being said, i'm wondering if they can pull in 3,000+ people here in DC.

discuss.

How does it compare to Lister or the Warner Theatre?  They sold those out back before anyone seemed to like them.

So this is real? What's Echoplex like and when can we buy tix?

How is echostage? Where does it fall on the fun to stodgy scale (is there such a scale)?
Also,

How long do we think they can keep running with the throwback, awe shucks, underdog thing. . ?
Not that that hasn't been my thing since whenever it was a thing. Oh damn, I'm jaded.

WHAT?

Valet parking.  It's not very "rock 'n roll" but neither is a reunion gig at a 3,000-6,000 capacity venue.

Something 930 Club desperately needs to adopt. They have an entire lot: why am I unable to get my car detailed during the concert? Seth is just leaving money sitting there to appease some poor contingency.

I dunno. One of the most rock'n'roll things I've seen is at the beginning of "Crossfire Hurricane" when the Stones are about to play MSG in 1972 and Mick snorts coke off a switchblade. Rock'n'roll exists in different forms in different venues, whether it's in front of 200 people or 20,000. I'm not expecting GREATNESS from the 'Mats. I'm hoping to see something memorable...even if it's not brilliant. How many people show up doesn't matter to me. Iggy and the Stooges at Lollapalooza was still one of the most rock'n'roll things I've ever seen. I had a chance to see the 'Mats in 1991 at the Aragon in Chicago but it was for Northwestern students only and I couldn't finagle a ticket...I still think I'd rather see this incarnation anyway. As long as beer is served, I suspect people will have a good time.
