Turn around, it's a total eclipse of the sun
« on: August 09, 2017, 01:29:50 pm »
The Eclipse is giving me good cover to make a trip to Ashville (1 hour from the direct path)

so, who else has got plans for August 21?

i might attend this lil' shindig: http://oregoneclipse2017.com/ (website seems to be having issues at the moment...).  looks like we'll be getting about 1:40 of darkness (vs. the max of 2:40, near nashville).

this will be my second solar eclipse.  first one was in 1999, in hungary, at a similar techno-hippie gathering where we got 2:22 of totality.  weird stuff, can't wait to experience it again.

best eclipse map i've found so far:  http://xjubier.free.fr/en/site_pages/solar_eclipses/TSE_2017_GoogleMapFull.html

gratuitous anigif, to ensure that seth shuts this sh*t down:

I'm doing it for sure...and people...you have not SEEN an eclipse unless you are in the PATH
even a few miles away is a different experience...let alone 500

I too saw the one in 99, in Turkey near Amasra up a few thousand feet with a full view of the black sea
was amazing seeing it come at you over the water and hearing the animals kinda freak out and go totally silent

Although I ended up unscathed...people would have thought it was a bad omen
as I was in a pretty bad bus accident 6 hours later and then escaped a major earthquake by just a few hours a few days later
I bought an evil eye a few hours before and I'm convinced it save me :)

All told, more than 17,000 people were killed and damages totaled $6.5 billion, making it one of the most devastating earthquakes of the 20th century.

So as walky would say...I got Eclipse'ed trying to get some Eclipse glasses

Confirmed there were free glasses at Air & Space..but apparently they are gone by 10:05 every day (they will be giving out 60K on Monday...but I won't be here)

Anyone know where I can pick up some glasses locally?

Thanks GGW, but all the libraries are out and A&S is quite difficult
haven't tried the zoo...but kind of a PIA to deal with

I'd be willing to pay, but no one has them in stock

need to follow up on Warby Parker

Charleston, SC.
Food, Booze, and the path of totality.  Or, you know, rain.

It is going to be a madhouse in Charleston
We considered it but apparently that's going to be over a million people there

I think the beach is the place to be

I want a few years ago and was able to drink only Charleston (or within a 20 mile radius )made beers
And all were fantastic
