Looks like I will be at Elvis Costello tonight and Andrew Bird on Sunday!
Anyone going to Seal on Sat?
-
I'll be at Pretty Girls Make Graves and seeing the Bodies Exhibit.
-
Let me know how Joan as Policewoman was, will you?

My craziness is next week --
- Pretty Girls Make Graves Sunday
- Joseph Arthur Monday
- Rosebuds Tuesday (though I'm not sure I'll make a midnight set time at RnR Hotel, if that's what it looks like)

Sure. I actually saw her as a backup singer for Rufus Wainwright back in 2003 or 2004.

Ouch...Bags, are they really going on at midnight? I want to see that show, but that's just way too late for a school night. Why do their shows start so late?

The website says doors at 8/show at 9. 3 bands. I would hope for 9:00/10:00/11:00. A midnight start time would really piss me off.
I'm definitely going though.

If PGMG doesn't sell out before I get a ticket, I'll be at that show.
-
I don't think it will!

Now, now....there's nothing wrong with a little ZZ Top.

We might do Slaid Cleaves at Iota on Saturday. Nonsmoking matinee show, can't beat that.
I'd also like to see Thad Cockrell at Iota, but not keen on going out on a Sunday night.

If I weren't going to Elvis Costello, I would go see that show.
Oh, and Mark Jenkins is dead to me:
"Arguably the most influential bad rock band of all time, Black Sabbath played thudding, doomy metal so dumb it gave Satanism a black eye."

Anybody that doesn't fuck with or at LEAST respect Black Sabbath deserves to be kicked in the nose. True story . . . .

Elvis Costello tonight
Andrew Bird on Sunday

I'd go see Laura Veirs at Iota tonight but just returning to town & traffic sucks.
Joseph Arthur on Monday or Griffin House at JJ.

secret machines - saturday night

currently trying to enlist the lady to join me for a day of sportin' n' drinkin' - FA Cup in the morning (manU vs. chelsea), hockey in the afternoon (sens vs. sabres), trying to find my way home in the evening (me vs. the world).

If I'm not at work until 10pm, I will definitely be at this show.
-
How was the Andrew Bird/Joan and Policewoman show?
Slaid Cleaves at Iota was pleasant. Cool to see small children at a show, though most appeared rather disinterested.

How was this? Their last 9:30 show was great. I disliked 10 Silver Drops at first, but it's really grown on me.

Well, I'm not sure, and I don't know how to find out. The Long Winters weeknight show started that late, but I've heard some others who were at shows with the headliner starting 10:30 or 11:00. Can you call over to find out? Anyone know??

Well, if the show starts at 9:00, we should be in good shape for no later than 11:00. I'll likely be there...

i know this is way late, but just as an fyi it was part of the highline festival (the one bowie curated) and was at highline ballroom.
long story relaxer - but i ended up leaving early. was doing a 6 mile walk (AIDSwalk) on sunday morning nice and early. i left about half way into the set i guess. i remembered liking them a lot more the first time i had seen them (opening for interpol), and i might have just been really tired, but really didnt care for them. the drummer revealed what looked like a brand new drumset. it sounded really great. each song was running the gamut of nearly 10 mins and i normally dig that stuff, but wasnt working for me. they did sound really good tho.
highline ballroom is a pretty great place. i like it even more since its nearly on 10th Ave (which i live on) and so its easy to get to :) and i believe its all ages, because i didnt see them checking ID at the door. So I guess thats good for all the younger folk of NYC who cant get into a lot of shows.
