Not even CCR, David Bowie, Lush, or Husker Du? I do not know why I thought you would like them.

You like what you like, I like what I like. Who cares? ::)

Wait, what? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjTmUhcRX3I)

I want that Lush set but I'm not camping out to track one down.
EDIT: I also want that Xiu Xiu plays Twin Peaks set (and wish that tour would come to the US).
-

It's not so much "cares," as wanting to point out an interesting (to me) juxtaposition of musical tastes. Maybe it's not interesting to anyone else that the person that thinks Wilco is/are terrible is a Bieber fan.
I am jealous of what I perceive to be your enormous budget for records though.
:P
-
I am a fan of that Bieber album in particular. I will give most music a chance.
(also, I am not buying all of those... Jeez... I am probably going to pick up like three things. Those were some of the maybes, because who knows what will be in stock when i go).
-

It's fantastic and made my top list of last year.
-
RSD = Musical Black Friday
it's only a matter of time before people start getting killed over records
-
I'd like the Down vinyl (obviously) but no chance I camp out for it.
I only got so far as the S section.
-
I recommend this: Aldo Ciccolini plays Erik Satie (http://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/8391)
I'd also get the Feelies EP and Focus "Hocus Pocus" 7".
-
The annual Nirvana covers comp looks tight.
1.DEFEATER - Blew
2.THOU - Floyd The Barber
3.BEACH SLANG - About A Girl
4.BASEMENT - School
5.CIRCA SURVIVE - Love Buzz 03:39
6.THIS WILL DESTROY YOU - Paper Cuts
7.YOUNG WIDOWS - Negative Creep
8.MEAN JEANS - Scoff
9.ROB CROW'S GLOOMY PLACE - Swap Meet
10.THE FALL OF TROY - Mr. Moustache

wow..nice!

I hope I can hit up two places this year; probably Kachunk! in Annapolis first, and then head over to Celebrated Summer Records in Hampden.
-
I hope this is an April Fool's joke, otherwise someone needs to take this arrogant fucker out.

not blown away by this year's list.
the black friday list is usually of more interest to me.
wanna save my energy and enjoy the maria schneider workshop at the l.o.c.
but if someone picks up a spare bowie 'man who sold the world' picture disc lp, i'd gladly treat them to lunch.

That will definitely be a hot ticket item. That being said, I do plan on getting to a store early that supposedly ordered it, and if I can, I will grab one for you.

^I love records but this is pushing it... I mean I live pretty close by to Dogfish and I love records but posters or coasters?
I guess its just another excuse for people to drink...pretty much like everything..
-
totally pushing it
they should have at least said %10 off if you bring the records you bought
-
For an unauthorized record store day treat, we have given 5 sets of all 5 singles from the Kim Deal Solo Series all on random colored vinyl (only 50 sets exist!) to Shake It Records in Cincinnati! If you're not near enough to visit, keep an eye out on www.kimdealmusic.com for availability of these in the future...

Nice list.
If I may ask, what are the five items you most would like to get on RSD?
-
That is tough... Excluding the Wildhoney release (it is an exclusive release for CSR and not an Official RSD release) my top five would be:
FAITH NO MORE/BEE GEES - Side By Side single
- this is just an interesting pairing. I love FNM and do not hate Bee Gees (though I do not know much about their music outside of the hits). I already bought one of the other singles in this series (Pantera and Poison Idea).
METZ/SWAMI JOHN REISS split single
- I heard one track on this and it was great.
NOFX - Sid And Nancy Single
- I really dig NoFX, and I might get this signed at the appearance they are doing, if I both get this and go to the signing.
V/A - Doused In Mud, Soaked In Bleach Compilation LP
- I have digital versions of the last two years of these compilations and would not mind a physical copy of this one in particular.
XIU XIU - Plays The Music Of Twin Peaks LP
- This one is the one I would have as my number one pick, if I could only pick one item. I can add it to my collection, next to my Xiu Xiu does Nina Simone cassette.
And there you have it, my top five picks for Record Store Day (at least from the list of the store I am going to, Celebrated Summer) and short reasons why each is desired.
-
I think the packaging on the Iron Maiden release is my favorite right now.

good to know..thank you!
I tend to avoid singles unless I find them used for 25 cents or something....I rarely sit down and play 45s..more of an album guy myself...
I'm picking up my mom this weekend so I will miss RSD....
-
I do not listen to records at home. 100% digital, and usually in my home studio/offices. I only buy physical releases in a few cases.
1. I have a friend in the band, or who runs the label, and will buy it to support them (OR, it is one of my favorite bands...). This can happen online or at shows. I love getting the LP at a record release show... Ofttimes get it signed...
2. I really enjoyed a band's set. Sometimes I just buy a t-shirt, but I have over 140 band t-shirts, so sometimes I will instead grab a tape or a 7 inch or LP or CD to support them (or a pin/button or a poster or a patch). But I am trying to buy less t-shirts, and physical music releases, and am trying to focus on posters at the moment.
3. Record Store Day (and Cassette Store Day) are the day (s) I go to my local record store, and support them.
-
Who wants to snag me a copy of Hoist?? Will pay pal you immediately and throw in a goodie or two... or three!
-
I will keep an eye out for it for you. CSR definitely ordered it.

I ended up with too many posters and not enough wall space. I am currently focused on band beer koozies if available. Cheap enough and instantly handy keeping my beverage cool.

Those are fun too.
I rotate my posters every few months. Or when I get one I really dig. But usually they go into the poster storage part of my office.

No problem!

Hoist for Yada, and Man Who Sold the World for dyecraig, were the only items that I said I would look for tomorrow?
I will message you guys if I am able to snag copies.

no, you're awesome.

Last year I did not go to Celebrated Summer Records until the day after RSD, and they still had a few of the things on my list (but still slim pickings).
They open at 11AM, and I probably can get there by 1PM this time so I am hoping they still have a good amount of stock.
I have good record mailers (at one point I was thinking about selling off my late 90s/early 00s DJ records) and can send them off Monday. I take it everyone uses PayPal.
-
I did not get there until 3pm... The woman basically laughed when I asked if any Bowie or Phish records were left (they went quick).
-
What I really wanted was unavailable so I opted for these
(http://i64.tinypic.com/rcjxn7.jpg)
-
If anyone has an extra Husker Du I'd love to buy it off you.
-
Sadly I could not get one of the NoFX singles... I ended up grabbing the Celebrated Summer Records/Wildhoney collaborative release (I have all three that they did so far) and the Metz/Swami John Reis single.

Ah man... They had a couple at CSR when I left an hour ago...

i got mine at smash about two hours ago, they had quite a few with no line, unlike crooked beat with a 30 minute wait

Thanks for trying. I had no luck with the bowie, either. I shall live.
-
My friend's haul... She scored 2 different Bowie releases, and Superchunk... The Talking Heads and Faith no More releases are cool, not sure I would have bought the other two though (sorry Joan!).

^ thanks & respect, hutch! - i'll be in touch.

Nice.

I have been listening to various RSD releases online and was planning on writing up my thoughts on each (I believe I found like 25 of them so far) tomorrow or Tuesday.

First up: the Flaming Lips - Lightning Strikes the Postman
http://www.recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/8392
(https://s3.amazonaws.com/broadtime_thumbnails/621/418457260621/418457260621%3A360.jpg)
This Record Store Day release is an alternate mix of the Clouds Taste Metallic album featuring ex-Flaming Lips guitarist, Ronald Jones. Contains an original comic written and illustrated by Wayne Coyne.
This must be for Ronald Jones and the Flaming Lips fanatics only. I listened to a couple tracks and they were ok but a full play-through is not happening right now. NEXT.

Low and S Carey - Not a Word
(https://subpop-wysiwyg.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads%2F1457309922257-LOWSCAREY_cover_600.jpg)
https://www.subpop.com/news/2016/03/07/heres_what_sub_pop_is_doing_to_record_store_day_2016
This 10? single on special translucent white vinyl features two 7-minute collaborations between Duluth group Low and Wisconsin?s S. Carey, aka Sean Carey, best known as the drummer and supporting vocalist for Bon Iver. The idea for this release came from producer BJ Burton. ?Not a Word? was an unfinished Low track that BJ worked with S. Carey to complete, while ?I Won?t Let You Fall? was an unfinished S. Carey song that BJ worked with Low to complete. This unique partnership between Low, S. Carey and BJ Burton (and Sub Pop and Jagjaguwar) is exclusive to Record Store Day 2016, and it is limited to 4,000 copies worldwide.
OK, this is more my speed. The first track is beautiful, full of different movements. The last two minutes are epic Low. The second track is a also a bit of a slow-burner, but I do not feel like the crescendo matches the intensity of the first song (BUT, track 2 is more haunting).... So both great! I definitely recommend Low fans track it down

Wake Up You! The Rise and Fall of Nigerian Rock, Vol. 1 (1972-1977)
http://pitchfork.com/thepitch/1048-record-store-day-2016s-best-and-weirdest-bets/
1. Various Artists, Wake Up You V.1 : The Rise And Fall Of Nigerian Rock Music, 1972-1977
This 2xLP compilation of scene that catapulted Fela Kuti to global renown looks to be the type of carefully packaged set that will be well worth checking for at your local store. Nigerian-born writer Uchenna Ikonne, who helped make William Onyeabor's 2013 album Who Is William Onyeabor? a reality, provides liner notes in a 104-page book that also includes previously unpublished photos.
I am only five songs deep, and love it!! Funky, cool, classic rock from Africa.
I am going to look up a lot of these bands later and check out full albums.
-
did anyone get one of the RSD mystery 7"? Apparently it's a Melvins/MC5 disc

Green River - 1984 Demos
(http://www.jackpotrecords.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/JPR036_Cover_5x5-300x300.jpeg)
http://www.jackpotrecords.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/JPR036_Cover_5x5-300x300.jpeg
Earliest known recordings of what was to become the Pacific Northwest 'Grunge' movement. Featuring Mark Arm & Steve Turner of Mudhoney, Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam. All Tracks Unreleased. Includes Concert Flyer, Sticker and Download.
I am digging this Demos release. The tracks sound pretty good on my studio monitors, for being demos. I am only half way finished, but cant imagine I wont like the second half.
Imagine if Green River did not break up when they did... No Mother Love Bone (at least without half it's members), no Pearl Jam, and no Mudhoney...

Various Artists - Doused In Mud, Soaked In Bleach
(https://f4.bcbits.com/img/a1011157747_16.jpg)
https://roboticempire.bandcamp.com/album/various-artists-doused-in-mud-soaked-in-bleach
Robotic Empire returns with their third NIRVANA tribute, "Doused In Mud, Soaked In Bleach", completing a trifecta of homages to the legendary band's studio albums.
The Hall of Famer's debut LP "Bleach" is covered in full, start to finish, by a diverse range of independent artists including BASEMENT, BEACH SLANG, BIG HUSH, CIRCA SURVIVE, DAUGHTERS, DEFEATER, THE FALL OF TROY, MEAN JEANS, ROB CROW'S GLOOMY PLACE, THE SADDEST LANDSCAPE, THIS WILL DESTROY YOU, THOU and YOUNG WIDOWS.
Appropriately reflecting NIRVANA's rawest studio album alongside a full-circle nod to Robotic Empire's roots, this is arguably the darkest, heaviest release in the tribute series. A tasteful re-envision of these classic songs sees all 13 "Bleach" tracks run through the bands' creative engines, putting an intense new perspective on these 25+ year old songs.
I enjoyed this one about the same as I did the other two comps in this series. Most of the covers are pretty straight up, with no surprises, but a couple like Big Hush's take of "Sifting", and Rob Crow's Gloomy Place version of "Swap Meet" do way different things with the songs. I enjoyed every track but Mean Jeans "Scoff" was probably my least favorite.

so apparently Jackpot pressed 200 of these on pink vinyl, but didn't label it on the outside, so some people have been getting a pleasant surprise.
on a related note: I felt it my duty to call out this collector douchebag on discogs cause he was trying to sell a "sealed pink" version of this for $150, but obviously was lying about the pink, or it being sealed. Needless to say he never responded but his record has mysteriously disappeared from the market place. Just scooped up a copy for $50, so I guess that's reasonable.
-
discogs is great!

Went to the Record store five minutes from my house earlier today and picked up the only item I wanted...supposedly limited to 1,000.. I knew that I'd probably be the only one that wanted it... :(
Gosh I really wish Bettie Serveert had more of a fanbase.. I just love them... they kind of lost me with Dust Bunnies for a while though...still Carol's voice is one of my favorites.. the other day I was listening to Attagirl..so good...
I wonder if that is Carol's daughter on the cover....I read Carol turned 55 yesterday.. hard to believe..
I saw them once at the 930.. that doofus piano playing dude Ben Folds opened and the minute he was done it seemed like a lot of people cleared out... I went with a friend who was a Ben Folds fan but I was there for Bettie...
-
I picked up the Luna double Penthouse LP...and the Germs' "Lexicon Devil" 7". That was pretty much all I really wanted to have. Glad that I managed to get those. Most stuff was just stupid expensive.
