If anyone was on the fence about Hum on Tuesday do yourself a favor and get a ticket. Concert of the year contender. So effing good.

Where are they playing?

Hum was good.

Failure was better.

I liked the whole show. Nothing was excellent as an opener for this. I really enjoyed the heavy riffing of Hum. Failure was spot on, no doubt! Really healthy crowd for a Tuesday night!

It was a fun show.  I was not feeling that great, so I bounced after twenty minutes of Failure (I did enjoy what I heard though).  Hum were awesome (bucket list).  Nothing was sweet.

Personal highlight:  I Hate It Too

The Scientists

they did a Coldplay cover?
No, I mistyped. They played a cover of Guided By Voices' I Am A Scientist.

No, you're thinking of Video Killed the Radio Star.

my face still hurts from laughing at jim gaffigan @ wolf trap wednesday night.
his opener ted alexandro was great as well, his music teacher/classical radio DJ material was too true and his web show is really funny.
took a while to get out of there, but worth it.

Went to see the Crue/Alice Cooper on Friday night. Oh. My. God. Bar none the most elaborate stage setup I've ever seen in my entire life. Colored flames, pyro, Tommy Lee's drums on a rollercoaster, robotic arms that swing Nikki and Vince over the audience, a flaming pentagram...absolutely ridiculous, over the top, and amazing. Even if you can't stand their music (and really, they're not a great band...but that doesn't stop them from pretending to be, and almost succeeding), it's one of the best bangs for the buck I've gotten from a concert. $49 for a bird's eye view, and you really didn't want to be too close to all the pyro. Plus, for being 67, Alice Cooper is a show-stealer. His band are a powerhouse and his set was the jewel of the evening. They ripped through 13 songs and it's everything you would hope or want. I'd have to add that he's a fine example of the benefits of golf and clean living. I'd put Alice up there with Iggy Pop in terms of sheer vitality and proving that you can be in retirement age and still look and sound like a much younger person. (Well, Iggy looks like a chewed-up dog toy, but he's still pretty strong as hell.) Anyway, I laughed til I cried, and I'm beyond happy that I went to see this. For as much as I stand by my statement that Wire was the best concert I've seen this year, this is a top 10 for sure...maybe a top 5. I've never seen anything like this, and I doubt I ever will again. Spectacular.

Lyle Lovett and Large Band were really fun on Friday night at the Trap.

Hot August in Baltimore County was, well, really too hot. Punch Brothers were troopers without their Bass player. Adam of the Counting Crows has really figured out a way to strip all of the joy out of his repertoire. Pigeons Playing Ping Pong were a funtime, and Bagley knows them!!!

Anyone else make it to Royal Headache?  They were a blast. Didn't care for any of the opening acts, tho.

No copies of the new album, unfortunately. That was a bummer.

I dug Royal Headache and Young Trynas. I didn't like the other two.
