Congrats!
-
Who is it? I don't get the print edition and online they don't show the same photos.
-
And exactly which date, edition, section, etc.?
-
Well I get the weekend paper on Saturday. It's also reprinted in a very large fashion on the cover of the Sunday Source.
-
The "In" Keepers (http://washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/12/AR2006101201463.html)
No photo on that page, but I'm sure everyone will recognize the name.
-
He also made the sunday magazine a few years back, think it was the "first person singular" column.
Was that the first Super Diamond show with the fight? I miss most of the good ones, heck I missed the fire on stage and I was next to it...
-
thanks. it's always nice to wake up to congratulatory emails and posts all over the place.
it was indeed first person singular a few years back. it was either the first or second super diamond show. it's been a few years.

I actually found the interviews with some of the other area club's door staph-ers more interesting (no offense meant). Some guy paid $1000 to the doorman to get into Fly Lounge? Trying to impress a date much?
-
Good article.
-
Congratulations to thatguy, and thanks for always doing your best to make the club a safe and fun place to go.

Heh... years ago this girl I was with took me to that Eurotrash place on 18th Street... not my kind of place at all. Of course, there was the velvet rope, the huge line, and all. She led me by the hand to the front of the line and said to the first guy in line, "is this the line?" To which he replied, "UH, YES?" in an indignant/incredulous voice. "Ok, thanks," she said cheerily, and she led me right past him, into the club, and the doorman didn't even blink. But seriously, people who wait in line at places like that are losers, and anyone who pays $1,000 to get past the line is 1,000 times a loser.

I had one show where I had a limo of 11 strippers show up. I was told that I could do whatever I wanted with them if I let them into the show.
My job is to say no.
FRIENDSHIP OVER!!!!!!

I finally saw the photo in today's Sunday Source -- I guess some people get different editions of the paper delivered -- excellent photo and article... congrats on your latest round of fame, Thatguy...
-
well my mom fucking cancelled the post because of some article she deemed anti-Israel way back in like...August...so I'm glad you posted that. cool article.
and i'm glad that Josh works there to make others happy. some of my fondest memories have been inside that club, so kudos and kudos and thank you :)

Ha ha, you Jews and your claims of media bias, even though you run the media! What will you think of next?

I still want to see this picture! Not all of us have a Washington Post right outside our door or even around the corner. Well, I could probably get one down the street even though it's not our local paper but I'm not a newspaper buying person so if I'm going to get one for a particular article, I want to know exactly which one. You have to remember that a lot of us on this board live in other parts of the world which is rather interesting for a DC based forum but, in my opinion, that makes this place all the more interesting.
-
The last time I checked, the Washington Post was readily available in Baltimore.

This photo accompanies the Post.com article, not sure if this is the one in the dead-tree edition, too:

Thatguy, have you ever tried the hair club for men?
-
i was stoked when i saw that
so the fly lounge guy was the only one that said bribes work, right?
-
Shows at universities often will work too. I was tech director at College Park way way way back in the day and a friend's brother used to give $5 to the guys at the back to let him sneak in to the shows. These were college students and not professional security, so they might have been making $4 an hour so $5 tax free was a good amount extra.

Would a job really be worth losing for strippers that wanted to see Justin Timberlake?

I hope that was a rhetorical question.
The closest I've ever been to a twelvesome was a seat at the Ryder Cup, and that's not the type of twelvesome we're talking about here. This is a fairly rare offer.
But jobs, come on? There are plenty of jobs out there.

Pretty sure the first as that is the only one that I have been at and I remember people talking about the fight well into the night.

what i didn't tell the guy is what the rest of my answer was, because it wasn't very professional. after the initial 20 or so "no" responses, they got, "ok: you, wash my truck. you, clean up that puke over there. you, haul all the trash in the club to the dumpsters. you, paint my house. you, start cleaning toilets..." i didn't make it to all 11 of them before they got the idea and left me alone.

i need the opposite. if there was a way i could make myself permanently bald, i would consider it. shaving is such a hassle.

Nooo, save the facial hair!
-
I didn't know about the article, until I stopped by my mom's, who left the section out for me on the table. Aw...
Way to go - great photo and article.
-
Having worked door at the club (it's nearly 10 years ago now), I have to give a TON of credit to the folks working there. It's not glamorous, and as thatguy points out, you have to clean up puke, throw people out, deal with fights, underage drinkers, jerky rock stars, demanding tour managers, etc. Not to mention clean up the club at the end of the night. And you have to keep a good attitude through it all...but when you work with good people and work for good people, you realize just what you have and it makes it worthwhile. Congrats to thatguy on a nice article on representing the club and doing such a good job at it.
-
thanks again for all of the kind words.
no need to worry about my beard, though. it's not going anywhere anytime soon. we have discussed the idea of a beard race at the club, but i don't know if it will ever happen.
-
Hmmmmm...mine isn't going anywhere either, there's no way I would want to get rid of it. I have thought about entering a beard contest. But I hate the thought of shaving it and having it grow back in. Talk about itchy.
-
we've decided that we're going to have a "no-shave november" at the club. we're not starting with blank faces, but those participating have agreed to not even so much as trim their facial hair for the entire month of november. some of them are wee lads and will have three or four hairs sticking out of their face by december. some of us will look like wookiees:

-
Will the women of the club be participating by not shaving their pubes?
