there is no such thing as "genital" herpes (vs. oral or any other type), according to Dr. Drew and other websites i've read. it's all the same virus, "genital" can only describe where a given outbreak is occuring. so if you have it up here, it can definitely spread down there. you're not immune from one just because you think you have the "other".

I once thought I had it. Turned out to be a rash due to summer sweating and tight underwear. The doctor told me to wear boxers for two weeks and it would go away. So I went out and bought some boxers and was fine, except for all of the flopping that comes with boxers.

no, you dolt - once the virus is in your body, it can break out anywhere. oral and general areas the the most common, but can occur anywhere the skin isn't too thick (nasal area, eyes... even "back there". UGH.)

Sorry but you are misinformed. If I have herpes in my mouth, it won't go to my genital area just because of your argument that "it can break out anywhere". It would have to be coming from "oral, anal, or genital contact, including intercourse, masturbation, kissing, or any direct skin-to-skin contact which allows for the transfer of bodily fluids." (from herpes.com).

True, if you want to be "medically" correct.
The usual connotation of "herpes" is genital.
If I have oral herpes, I'd call it "cold sore" or "fever blister". I won't say to my friends, "hey guess what, I have herpes". That would freak them out.
Also, to finish it off, it may be the same virus, but they are from different strains. Oral herpes is HSV-1 and genital herpes is HSV-2, though HSV-1 can also cause genital herpes.

nice job selectively quoting your source! :) the full quote would be "Transmission is caused by close oral, anal, or genital contact, including intercourse, masturbation, kissing, or any direct skin-to-skin contact which allows for the transfer of bodily fluids.". TRANSMISSION is from one infected person to another non-infected person, not within the same person. what we're talking about are recurrences - and on that topic, your source says "Recurrences usually develop near the site of the initial infection." usually. not always.

Oral herpes is HPV-1 and genital herpes is HPV-2, though HPV-1 can also cause genital herpes.
i suspect you made a typo there, or you are misinformed. HPV = human papilloma virus, AKA genital WARTS. herpes = herpes simplex virus.
