new trent reznor:
http://pitchfork.com/news/38686-how-to-destroy-angels-a-drowning/

very massive attack'ish, imo.

"We've released our debut 6-track EP as a FREE download, delivered as high-quality DRM-free MP3s. Sign up below for immediate access. For $2, you can upgrade to the HD package, which adds options for lossless audio (24-bit 44.1kHz WAV and 16-bit FLAC and Apple Lossless) and the music video for "The Space in Between" in 1080p and 480p. An immediate download of the HD package is included FREE with any merchandise purchase."

vids can be viewed from their homepage (thanks, callat703)

EDIT: listened to this twice tonight at the gym and it gets a slightly warmed-over "meh."  her voice is nice but slightly generic (and over-processed IMO) and trent isn't really breaking any new ground other than the fact that it's slower than most of his output.  a few interesting noise solos/leads and quite a lot of dissonance but that's not really my cup of tea.  the previously-released single is the best track IMO.  overall it was an OK listen but i don't see myself going back and ever listening to it again.

I?m not normally a big fan of tribute albums, but this one is really, really nice. Just need to re-burn it without the Connor Oberst song.

I actually think I?d rather listen to these versions than the originals (except the Oberst song)

Tracklist: Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine
01 Justin Vernon - ?Bruised Orange (Chain of Sorrow)?
02 Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band - ?Wedding Day in Funeralville?
03 My Morning Jacket - ?All the Best?
04 Josh Ritter - ?Mexican Home?
05 Lambchop - ?Six O?Clock News?
06 Justin Townes Earle - ?Far From Me?
07 The Avett Brothers - ?Spanish Pipedream?
08 Old Crow Medicine Show - ?Angel From Montgomery?
09 Sara Watkins - ?The Late John Garfield Blues?
10 Drive-By Truckers - ?Daddy?s Little Pumpkin?
11 Deer Tick - ?Unwed Fathers? [ft. Liz Isenberg]
12 Those Darlins - ?Let?s Talk Dirty in Hawaiian?

Also listening to the new Dierks Bentley bluegrass album, which is quite tasty.

Also, I think we can all agree that Shellac rules.  That is all.

Love Band of Horses but HATE, HATE, HATE the new album.  For the most part, they sound
like a sissy 70's pop/rock band (think Loggins and Messina but worse).

Part My Morning Jacket and part Jayhawks, the new Band of Horses is good stuff.

Agreed.

Is it really that much different than Cease To Begin (their best, imo)?

Nothing wrong with 70's pop/rock.

The cuts I heard on the radio sounded to me like what I now think of as very commercial formula mainstream Indie. It wasn't offensive but I was not impressed in the least. 'Boring' comes to mind.

God, I hate agreeing with Rhett twice, but there's nothing wrong with 70's pop/rock, and especially not Loggins and Messina.

I've been listening to the latest She & Him album.

You know, I really don't get the appeal. It's a so-so album, nothing more. 4 or 5 of the tracks sound like B-sides.

I enjoy M. Ward, but if the lead singer wasn't Zooey Deschnael the band would get worse reviews and way fewer people would pay attention.

So you're saying being a marginally famous actress correlates with getting more favorable than deserved critical reviews? Does the same apply to critic's opinions of Juliette Lewis' music?

I like the new album, moreso than the first. It's pleasant, breezy retro pop. A bit like Camera Obscura. Like the aforementioned Band of Horses, it's not trying to reinvent music, but I don't want music to be reinvented anyway.

Yeah, I'm basically saying that.

I mean don't get me wrong, the album isn't terrible. I would give it 3/5 or 3.5/5 stars but I just don't enjoy it as much as others. I can't comment on Juliette Lewis, I've never listened to her stuff.

I think songs like Thieves and In the Sun are strong. But for each one of those there is a song like riding in my car that I just don't enjoy.

I hate watching Zooey glare at the audience like she's some hot sh*t. And they don't have any chemistry.
