Chutes Too Narrow

Yes, their first two albums are near perfect. But live, they were always as boring as the Olympics.

Could see The Shins coming back. They have the 5th and 6th off before playing Nashville on the 7th.

You mean the James Mercer Band? The Shins included Marty Crandall and Jesse Sandoval.

I loved the "Shutes too narrow" album but the Shins kind of sucked when they opened for the White Stripes at MPP

So is the line-up being announced tomorrow? On their Twitter feed it says today is that last day to enter the "guess our line-up" contest... I guess they'll need a couple days to go through the entires... or they could announce the winner after they announce the line-up...

Completely disagree. While Marty (even if he did beat his women, tsk tsk) and Jesse didn't write any songs, they always had great banter with James on stage. That's in addition to their great live stuff. In fact, their live stuff completely blows away their album versions. Especially When I Goose-Step, their finest moment. Which is another reason why I can't stand Mercer anymore: he refuses to play When I Goose-Step live.

Great banter? Are you serious? Marty was so seriously awkward with his banter that he was the one who deserved to be bitch slapped. James just seemed embarassed, like he just wanted the guy to shut up and play.

Does the drummer still have a Mexican food truck in Portland?

Did you ever see the Shins, pre-firing, live?

I saw them at Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle in September 2002 and at Bowery Ballroom in September 2003. Also saw Mercer solo as part of a Subpop showcase at Iota in Arlington, sometime I think in 2003. Was never inspired to see them after that.

I was in Chicago for a wedding this weekend. I couldn't believe they evacuated all those people on Saturday.  Downtown was crazy.

I have to give them props as people got out pretty quickly without a fuss.  Someone said 38 mins and all was clear.  But yes downtown was a mess and as soon as rain stopped people ran for the gates tickets or not.  So a lot of people enjoyed some free music sat
