Last nite I had an awesome time at the JT concert. Although I was sitting outside from 11:30am-11:30pm it was fun! I met some cool ass people in line, and it was a great show! The only thing I didnt like was thats some of us waited in line ALL day then they let VIP go in with us, that really sucked! You think they woulda told us that when we got in line... guess not. Oh well though, I still had a good spot and a great time! Thanks 930.. the show rocked! :p

There seem to be rather a lot of ass-people who are into JT's schtick.

They're VIP (Very Important People). They should be allowed in first. No one told you to sit outside for 12 hours for a general admission show. Hope that waiting in line for entire day was worth it. Guess you didn't pee at all during the show and just stood clinging onto the front row barricade. Sounds like a great time to me for wasting a day in line.

I wonder what sort of cool people you'd meet waiting in line for a JT show?

Thank you mankie!
As for the rest of you, you guys are a bunch of haters or something. I just wanted to post something saying I had a good time and you guys have to go and bash it. You bash everything and its annoying as shit. Please get over yourselves. This thread was supposed to be a nice one about the concert, and look what you guys are turning it into.

a Jethro Tull thread? There is nothing wrong with that.

And MindCage.. it wasnt a waste of time. I dont regret it one bit. I was so close and I had the best time. The reason I got there so early was so I would be pressed up in the front. And sitting there all day wasnt a waste, cause I had so much fun!
And my point about the VIP people was that they werent very important people. They were just people who somehow got their names on a list, or someone who just snuck in line. If they were really important then I would have had no problem with it. And like I said before, I didnt even care that much. I got to stand where I wanted.

JT was pretty damn funny on SNL this weekend. His portrayal of Ashton Kutcher had me cracking up.
I couldn't stand his performances (I thought he was out of key during "Rock your Body" and that it's impossible for him to sit still even when on the piano), but I won't deny the fact that the kid has talent.
-
i agree with you smackie. snl was damn good sat night, well at least the secnd 2/3 that i caught. jt has talent. like him or not, he's got staying power.
-
Um... to be serious for a moment... it's true that VIPs are usually spectacularly UNimportant in the grand scheme of things, but they're usually important to the band (friends, relatives, associates, groupies) or the club. So it's kind of a waste of time getting indignant over it.
As a former VIP myself, I find that when I have to mingle with the common people to go to the bar and get drinks, and I catch attitude from some of them as I go back past the velvet rope, I find it quite tiresome.

Ding ding DING!!!!!!
he was great as Jessica Simpson.....But his musical performance had me reaching for the remote it was awe inspiringly bad.
He would make a better comic than pop-star.

sorry, long day yesterday. just getting up.
no major excitement this time. no drunken midgets, no mass quantities of strippers. most of my night was spent dealing with scalpers and folks trying to get one over on the club.
we did have a couple of ladies buy tickets to the jonathan richman show and try to hide out on a toilet in between shows. unfortunately for them, they were quite obviously not there for mr. richman, and everyone knew it. i was about to send someone figure out which bathroom they were hiding in when i got a call on the radio that they had been found.
regarding "vip" treatment: the guest list line was let in at the exact same time as the ticket holders line. they had a slight advantage by being a little closer to the door. NOBODY snuck into that line that wasn't supposed to be there. i checked everyone in that line personally.
things could not have gone more smoothly last night. the staph did an amazing job with a tough show, and the crowd left smiling.
-
I agree, the staff did a great job last nite! I know no one snuck in that line, it just seemed that there were sooo many people in that line. I said that people snuck in like out of frustration, not to bash security or anything. I really do think things went smooth, I'll definatley be back at 930! But like I said, I had a great time... again, thanks 930!

Cindy, it looks as if you are a pretty big JT (your initials) fan. That's great, but not really my cup of tea or most of the "older" posters on this board's either. I'm assuming, and please correct me if I'm "way" wrong here, but you're quite my junior. Anyhow, I'm seriously recommending you check out some of the upcoming bands like Interpol, Belle and Seb., Yeah yeah yeahs, or some great bands at other places. Some of the older posters are... well, yeah, quite "hater like", but many have seen more bands than most "JT" fans would ever fathom. I've seen some bands on the "other side" like NSync and BSB, even though I confess I never really gave them a chance, but at least I witnessed the scene (for lack of a better word).. And yeah, everyone has an opinion, but my opinions about physics aren't nearly as valid as Einstein's.... so be careful who you shout back at.

myuman, great advice for Cindy. And i agree -- hopefully this is just the beginning of a long career catching live bands and discovering new music because they came threw your town!
thatguy, you raised an issue I have a question about - you mentioned dealing with scalpers. I've always wondered about this; fairly often I get stuck with an extra ticket or two (okay, that's *my* issue regarding the need to plan and purchase for a whole group!). But I've sold tickets in front of the club. I'd NEVER ask for more than face value, but is this allowed? The answer may be that it's obvious to you when a regular clubgoer is just getting rid of an extra ticket or so versus 'pro' scalpers, but I've always wondered.
Thanks
-
selling tickets for face value is fine. sometimes we'll even be nice and let you recoup your service charges. anything more than that is a no-no, and we do our best to keep scalpers away.
-
Cindy...
enjoy what you enjoy and ignore everybody else
glad the show lived up to your expectations

Cindy is, doubtless, a 09:30 employee using an alias?
-
Cindy, Don't listen to Seth, he is the reason you think there are never any good shows at the 9:30 club.

thanks seth!!! :p
And...I will check out some other stuff at 930. Butso ya know, ive seen so many other bands in concert before too (some at 930)... its not like I only go to jt concerts, for the record.
-
Thanks, thatguy (or I should say Josh, I guess). In some other cities you can't sell tix at all near the venue.
Luckily I always get my tix at the box office, so I never have to deal with that service charge issue!

This is the problem I have with going to shows such as JT. (And I was one of the people who waited all day long.) Why isn't it plausible to some people that I can happily attend the JT show AND happily attend The Mars Volta show? Yeah, I guess it is valid to say that most JT fans tend to stick within the parameters of pop music. But, there are plenty of people who are capable of liking JT and being a fan of "cooler" bands. I've been to approximately 40 concerts so far this year...and only two of them were JT shows. I'm always left feeling like I need to apologize to the JT fans and then to the fans of the "cooler" bands, because I don't fit into some neat, little, stereotypical box...I can't be pinned down as one type of fan or another. I like what I like when I like it...I'm not going to rule something out simply because it is overly-popular or has a lot of young fans.
-
It's not implausible, but you have to admit that the JT fans on the board came on when the tickets went on sale, just to talk about the JT show, and did so in every thread for a few days. So it's a reasonable assumption to view them as limited to JT or that genre in their concert-going habits. Hey, I went to see REO Speedwagon and Styx, and no one will think I'm a classic rock head because I'm on the board and obviously talk and ask a lot about other bands.
And actually, I thought it was nice to encourage Cindy to keep attending the 9:30 club. Turns out she does, which is cool.
I act like a baby when it comes to the Foo Fighters, so I will *not* cast aspersions. But I hear you, the tone can be a little supercilious. This comes from frustration, as well, since for a couple days this whole bulletin board was JT all the time.
So what were your favorite three concerts this year?
