I'll be at Peter Hook @ 930 Club tonight. If anyone see's a curly haired kid wearing a black Dead Can Dance t-shirt, come say hello!

Licking my wounds that I have to miss both Elbow and The Morning After Girls. I was going to come into town just for The Girls and would have done so for Elbow until I saw the dates. Damned if they didn't fall, yet again, on a mandatory busy work day. My schedule is pretty flexible but every time a band comes around that I really, really want to see, it falls on a must work day. What a tease.

Peter Hook was really good, again.
Noveller always mesmerizes and last night was no different.
Carla Bozulich played a chilling set of new and old material and John Eichenseer on strings served as nice accompaniment.

I loved the Peter Hook show. A very different kind of performance from last time, which was punkier. This one felt more proficient and technical, and of course it fully embraced the jewel that is Closer. At one point during "The Eternal", I couldn't help but think that the music of Joy Division is one of the greatest artistic achievements. You could put Joy Division up there with Michelangelo. I know that's a bold statement, but to me their language is one that has never been replicated by imitators. There was a lot of great post-punk music in the late 70's/early 80's, but to me Joy Division the work of Joy Division is original and unprecedented. That's why they're regarded with such respect. And the bass line from "She's Lost Control" is one of the coolest riffs ever. When Peter joined in on bass for the climax, that was total genius. He owned it.

I also loved the show.. wish I had not been so skeptical when the Unknown Pleasures Tour took place as thats far and away the album I prefer but he did play a few from there.. of course its odd to see a "Joy Division" show where the bassist hardly plays bass, the singer is dead, and the bassist's son plays bass.. its a bit strange and you have to just stop thinking and go with it..

But Hooky really was concentrating on the singing and channeling his Ian Curtis and he did a bang up job... at one point my friend commented on just how much he was sounding like Ian.

Atmostphere was on the set list but they didn't play it did they?!?

A few diehards waited outside after the show and about an hour later he did come out and chat/sign/take pictures. Nice guy.

A real shame what has happened with New Order.

At the end of the day I think Ian Curtis would be happy that his music is out there being performed.

Joy Division's music is stills so "modern" that even though the show was a big nostalgia fest it still felt alive at least to me.

I'll be there in the pit also.  I'd love to then head to the Ottobar for Frank Turner after Fleet Foxes if it would work out timing wise.

Venturing to the Dark Side (Fillmore SS) for Primus on Saturday.

Wilco on Sunday.
