Your current musical jam?

I am really into Steely Dan lately

I am a melody first guy....lyrics often I don’t care about

Never realized how out there some Steely Dan lyrics are!  The chorus about Cuervo and Colombian? The songs about  middle age and being into young chicks?

And the music is really the cream of the crop of NY session players

Aja and Gaucho are perfection

But it’s only when I actually listened to the words I realized there was a whole other somewhat twisted level there

My musical jams change so quickly and so often... but as of the past week.

Dropped into a big Malkmus rabbit hole with the release of his new album last week... Listened to Wowie Zowie, Crooked Rain, then Self-Titled, Pig Lib, and Real Emotional Trash... all perfection.

Also, after the death of Sam Burns, I dropped into a bit of a Detroit House music hole... I'll probably climb out of that quickly.

I tend to be totally random in IPOD album selections on the train. Back when I used to ride the train. Like before yesterday.

I play CD's in my car (got rid of the Saturn a couple years ago so no more cassettes.) With the CD in the car, I tend the play the same things over and over. Right now it's Stay Positive by Hold Steady and the live tracks off that recent Mats re-release box thingy.

For music in the house, I tend to play stuff that doesn't rock the boat. That means I have to avoid Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, or anything remotely country other than Wilco and Old 97's.

Cue the mocking of my musical formats, and I also probably didn't answer the question.

Vansmack just stroked out over all that physical media.

I've been listening to a lot of Welsh bands in both English and Welsh of late.  Have been thinking about starting a Welsh Music Appreciation thread...

One of my favorite albums to listen to from last year was the third album from Right Hand Left Hand "Zone Rogue”
http://righthandlefthand.bandcamp.com/album/zone-rouge.

Described as 2 members 2 drum sets 2 guitars and a loop machine. Fans of post rock will enjoy this. the math and experimental rock labels also apply...

Followers of the 90s Washington DC scene will be interested to know the inspiration to form the group was hearing a Trans Am song in a bar

Is this different than the "What are you listening to?" thread?

What I'm listening to is the new Real Estate LP. I hated "In Mind" for some reason, but the new one is really, really good.

As far has bands that are my JAM...well, for whatever reason it's always Luna. That's what sort of makes everything ok and makes the crappiness of the world not affect me as much. Then again, I've cheated on them with a few other bands as of late...Cocteau Twins, the Gun Club...."The Hurry and the Harm" by City and Colour, and I'm obsessed with the 4 live tracks from the Circle Jerks from the Decline of Western Civilization soundtrack. That band was so tight.

I hated the last Real Estate album as well. Even Atlas was pretty spotty.

I can’t work and listen to new music. I focus on the music too much. Music I’m familiar with isn’t a huge distraction.

For the moment it’s Emma Ruth Rundle’s Marked for Death. The new Wake lp is apparently being delivered later today.

I've listened to the Real Estate album a few times now and having a hard time getting into it... It's not bad... But just kinda boring.

Jam is totally different from what you are listening to this second

Playing an album 2-3 times is not a jam

It’s more like what kind of phase are you going through musically..something you are really into

It should last a few weeks
