they do show Frodo have visions of bad things happening in the shire in one of the movies don't they

Yes and the shire does get trashed in the book. It seemed ripe for exclusion.

I am well aware of the trashing in the book, and I think it would be great in the movie.  They have been gone so long, something should have happened, hopefully it does not have a star wars ending.
