someone made a bacon explosion this past sunday at a party - it was pot-luck, the theme being "vegetarians vs. carnivores". thank gawd one of us meat eaters took his duty seriously and went all the way: a bacon explosion (someone also made a hawaiian pork dish in banana leaf that was excellent). unfortunately the hype was bigger and better than the reality - everyone was psyched for (or horrified by) the BacEx, but it was only so-so. way too salty for my taste. the looks on some of the vegetarians' faces were priceless.

I've heard this. I'm not a big fan of the BBQ sauce, but I've been told that without it, the salt would kill you.

Separately, I don't really like big chain restaurants, esp. Cheesecake Factory, but we had a work function and for appetizers, they served mac-n-cheese balls. (balls of mac-n-cheese, breaded and slightly baked or fried.) Yum - but rich! Anyone else try them?

The Amish market in Annapolis has these things called pretzel dogs. A frankfurter and some cheese are wrapped in pretzel dough, sprinkled with salt and baked. And then its dunked in melted butter. Disturbingly delicious.

while i'm sure it's a bad idea to do that long-term (raw bacon underwear - don't do it, ladies!), i doubt that a few minutes during a photo shoot are going to do anything harmful. if anything, the fat might be good for her skin (although the missus, who is reading this over my shoulder, indicates there is no way in hell she'd be willing to try this. ymmv.)

No, I ardently disagree. E Coli, salmonella, toxoplasmosis, and several other diseases are common in uncooked meat. One would then take said wet, uncooked meat and place it one orifices on their body where the meat juices can seep into a dark, wet place -- a veritable breading ground for disease. I apologize for the mental image, but as I said earlier, "putting uncooked bacon on your vag CANNOT be good for a young lady's feminine hygiene." It would however make for a hell of an episode of House, MD.

Ha ha. We must be thinking alike. I thought that it looked like a jar of tape worms immersed in stomach acids.
Whether looking at it or just contemplating the thought of actually drinking that stuff turns my stomach. Not a big bacon fan myself. Very picky about how I eat that stuff. It's got to be nice and crispy. Cannot stand the soft and soggy crap they wrap around other foods. Those bacon and chocolate assortments all look good though, especially that one someone posted a long time ago of bacon strips dipped in chocolate.

I just wish they'd bring the series back. Movies of tv shows never work out as well. Not enough time to work up ongoing story lines and too often they blow their budgets on big scenes that are never anywhere as interesting as they think they'll be.

Most of the posts in this thread totally gross me out! Have to admit that the chocolate covered bacon looks delicious though. I love salted chocolates and caramels and I don't even like the taste of salt.

Quarter biscuits, place cheese cube inside each quarterd biscuit and close tightly, wrap bacon tightly around biscuit and use large skewer to hold together. Heat pan of oil (canola) to 350degrees and place them in only a few at a time. Once a golden color and bacon is cooked take out and drain on paper towel. Serve warm.

I have literally thought of opening a restaurant for "gourmet" veggie burgers. The different products you can use to make your patties (bean, quinoa, soy, etc) match better with different ingredients and I actually think there's more a foodie-chef could do with inventive veggie burgers than real meat-burgers at this point. I have a southwestern burger and a "breakfast" burger that would knock the socks off even the most voracious meat-eater.

i'd check that out. i've had some awesome veggies 'burgs, and i'm an unapologetic carnivore.
benefit that veggie has over meat, in the burger dept., is that the taste of ground meat is too strong. only thing you can do with it is go even stronger: bbq sauce, hot peppers, etc. it can be good, but it's taking a sledgehammer to your palette. a lot more variation (read: subtlety) available when going veggie.
unfortunately, a lot of people's only exposure to veggie burgers are the tasteless frozen pucks of pressed insulation that come in a box and folks throw on the bbq to appease vegetarians. that's like basing your appreciation of pasta on chef boy-ar-dee (sp?).

food in the US is pitiful.. I was watching this news story on AL Jazzera (they have way more actual news stories than CNN/MSNBC/FOX which talk about nothing all day) about California's central valley where a lot of our vegetables and fruits come from and they use manufactured water from oil extractors.. and the water smells of oil, has film from oil, etc.. sounds terrible... and because of the drought I guess they get a pass?

Eggplant, celery and cucumbers look particularly bad when compared to pork or chicken.? FWIW, neither book was written in english, so...
correct, but every culture touched by one of the Big Three monotheistic religions has a direct translation for the word "hell". so while the original hebrew, aramaic, greek, etc. texts would not have H + E + L + L they would have used their direct equivalent (or in the case of the old testament, not).

FYI today is World Pizza Day (National Pizza Day was moved to coincide with it... DAMN GLOBALISTS)
if you google "national pizza day" you'll get links to various news stories describing which chains are having deals, giving away pizza, etc. - in case you want to indulge tonight.
i'm currently having a a very sad slice of cafeteria pizza, of previously frozen origin. no time to head out and find a decent slice. woe est moi.

Yes my oven maxes out at 500, but I’m telling you, it is easily better than at least 80% of the places in the DMV that somehow stay in business selling “pizza”
While there are a few exceptions, the thing I feel dc should be known for is how bad the average slice of pizza is in this area

900 is excessive, 750 is upper end for me and typically i stay at 650. the missus got me a pizza oven for xmas, it's a huge hit at the sweetcell household.

Ok this may well be the world's most perfect food from a local food truck Borinquen Lunchbox. Their Cheese Dog is a hot dog with cheese wrapped with their empanada dough. Apologies to all vegans...

I remember this food truck from when I used to work downtown and food trucks were a plently and freely roamed the streets... Based on their Instragram page they only just appear at local breweries at this point..
