Did I really just pay $69.95 plus fees for the opening act?

I don't know much about Oasis at all, since I guess I'm seeing them, can anyone recommend what records are a good place to start.

The planet that got really turned off by a snotty pretentious british band and decided to not pay attention.

That being said, I do like the stuff I've heard, which I think is mostly from the two records you mention.

As for myself, I've never heard a single Ryan Adams song.  Ever.  That I know of.

At any rate, I got 4 floor tickets, Section 6, row K.

Happening to hear a couple of songs over the years and thinking they are alright requires much less effort than going out and getting the records, etc.  If I hadn't gotten a somewhat of negative impression of them early on, I probably would have picked up the records and followed their career.

I'm obviously open enough to them at this point that I want to give them a try.  I wouldn't have gotten tix just for them, but I'm open to staying around after Ryan Adams and checking it out, unlike, say the hoards of people that split the Muse/MCR shows right after Muse was done.

I was just explaining why I hadn't really followed them up to this point.

The last Oasis tour with Kasabian was just alright. Liam was being a dick to the soundman. I guess that's what you do when your only "talent" is singing.

the first time i saw oasis was at nissan september 10 1996... i wasn't a big fan..never have been. .all i remember is watching it from the lawn and i am a walrus...i think we got there late.... a friend made the play to go

i like oasis because at least they behave and try and act like rock stars.. if that makes any sense...i can't stand musicians who stick their hands in their pockets and act glum.. my friend got me a ticket for this coming show 10th row center..i might have to go..but i'm not a big fan.. haven't really listened much.. i did love that instrumental featured in snatch.. thats a great tune... shock the lightning sounds allright...

i've never understood the complete hatred for oasis that many have.... so they rip off a riff here or there..big deal.. don't look back in anger is a great tune...they have quite a few good tunes actually...

but they ain't no ac dc.

Is it Ringo or Zak?

Also, if you don't want to invest in an Oasis ablum to find out more, just listen to any Beatles song and chances are Oasis have broken some copyright law on it. I find it a little ironic that a band steals from an inferior band to themselves. Even their lastest single is a ripoff of magical mystery tour.

I was at the Patriot and Nissan shows. Patriot crowd sucked but the band were great. Nissan was the last show before Noel eff'd off home in a huff so you could see the tension between Noel and Twat Gallagher on stage which was rather entertaining in itself.

Do you realize if Liam left the band nothing would change apart from the fact Britain would have one more loser on the dole.

First of all, if you're a Ryan Adams fan and you don't know Oasis, go hear the real "Wonderwall." Ryan is a huge Oasis fan btw.

Second thing, I am totally stoked about this concert because well I love both bands. I saw Ryan last year at DAR, but have yet to see Oasis. I'm hoping to get tickets once I get paid. I want to take my dad with me, because he too is an Oasis fan.

Oh totally. Not even just that, but the fact it's their last tour date of this tour is even cooler.

and speaking of the holidays, those tickets would make an awesome christmas and birthday  gift for my dad (his b-day is new year's eve).

Kasabian didn't even play that show if you remember. They set their equipment up then took it down due to technical problems but JET played and were awesome.Cornershop sucked when they opened for Oasis at the Patriot Center.I think the best show they did there was when TRAVIS opened for them.I got section 116 row A right beside the stage plus their new CD and a limited edition T-shirt all for $103.22.Pricey but hopefully worth it.

Nope they set up their gear then took in down and that was JET that played the very short set. Then during Oasis encore Kasabian came out and sang back up vocals. It was an awesome show over all but still would have liked to see them play.Would have been kinda like seeing Oasis play twice in one night if you know what I mean.

shoot, Jet was on the lineup as well when I saw Oasis at Shoreline. Their set must have been forgettable that I didn't even remember until I looked at my list of past shows. In 2008, they're just drinking piss from a monkey.

Below is a review from someone who went to that show. Note reference to "drinking".

Oasis / Jet / Kasabian (Shoreline Amphitheatre, 11 September 2005)

 Part 1 of 3

I'm on holiday at the moment for my long time ritual of going to see Oasis in every single possible venue in California. Tonight is their first stop in Northern California as they do a show at the much hated Shoreline. If it wasn't for the 49ers traffic, my friends and I could have made it on time to see Kasabian. Alas, that wasn't the case.

We caught the last couple of songs from Kasabian. I think the last song was "L.S.F. (Lost Souls Forever)" and it was as brilliant as what it was when I saw them at Coachella. The lead singer (whose name escapes me at the moment) looks a bit more tidy with the haircut and tucked in shirt. He looked very Liam-esque actually. A skinnier, younger version at least.

Afterwards we went to get some beer and met up with a couple other friends. Meeting up at the Shoreline is almost an impossible task with all these concession stands. As I peeked at the overpriced merchandise (Oasis track jacket: $80. Oasis bag: $40) I got some MGD courtesy of M-L, who was hella late because of her flight plans in Ontario.

We spent the Jet set on the lawn since we want to be as far away as possible from these guys. Their rock is too damn traditional. It's like the Stones and Aerosmith were all in there. There should be a Jet drinking game, where everytime the lead singer says "YEAH!" it's drinkin' time. Guaranteed to kill you since he says that word every other sentence. I wasn't impressed. Even with their hit songs. Again, I wasn't impressed. These guys should come on first instead of Kasabian.

Oasis came on at around 9:30pm. They opened their set with "Fucking in the Bushes" as the entrance song. Here comes the band, with Liam wearing a collarless long sleeved shirt with gold rimmed sunglasses. He looked straight out of Be Here Now if it wasn't for the fact that he got kinda big and his skin aged tremendously. That's what drugs will do to you kids. Think moderation. Noel was as slender as ever, but he still looked kinda old.

"Turn Up the Sun" came on next. This and other new Oasis songs like "The Importance of Being Idle" and "Guess God Thinks I'm Abel" fell short since it was too dull sounding. Other new songs like "Lyla," "Mucky Fingers," and "Meaning of Soul" fared better, but not by much.

It was the past albums that made Oasis great and the crowd at this show didn't get crazy until an oldie was played. The song after "Lyla" was "Bring it on Down" which should amuse all the 30+ kids out there. I like "Bring it on Down," but it's a good live song IMHO. Obviously, "Supersonic" could have been played, or even anythhing off of Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, Heathen Chemistry or, my preference, "D'You Know What I Mean?" from Be Here Now.

I don't think they played any songs off of Heathen Chemistry, which is surprising since they seemed really proud of that album. Most of ths songs consisted of classics like "Live Forever" (which was dedicated to New Orleans) "Wonderwall" (which was dedicated to all the ladies in the audience) and "Don't Look Back In Anger." For "Don't Look Back in Anger," Noel let the crowd sing the first chorus. It was a big sing-a-long and I grabbed four of my friends and forced them to sing it with me in tandem. It was a proud moment!

There was a problem with Liam's mic during "Champagne Supernova, " probably because of feedback in the monitors. Liam was as playful as ever. Placing the trambourine flat on this head. Or biting the tambourine so that it looks like Liam has this huge grin. Liam trying to pinch Noel's bum after the encore. Liam shaking hands with the twats in the lower level seats. Or Liam giving a couple of lucky fans his tambourine. I want that tambourine damn it. I've been waiting for it for the last 7 years.

Overall, a great show with all the classics spilled right in.

Thanks for the head's up & help. For one seat, I pulled sec 2; for 2, sec 5. (can't afford the price but, agh.) I went for 2 in sec 5. I saw Ryan at DAR and I was about the same distance away - better sound and view.
The 930 presale was active early this morning...I feel badly for those waiting until 10 am.

(Both Ryan and Pete are good, but they sound different to me. Pete explored with a twangy album last year...it was decent, but but he doesn't have a hold on it, yet.)

Wait a second ... I've never been to the Patriot Center so maybe I'm missing something, but my confirmation email says:

Are we in the same seat or is that just how they refer to a particular section?

You got a floor seat for the show.  Usually they have general admission but I guess for this show it's seat on the floor. Same setup as The Cure.  I don't think Greer got the same seat as you.  I was able to pull that exact same seat this morning.  I already got my ticet the other day.  This seat is a tad bit better but oh well.

depends on the show.  i've seen 10-12 shows there, and only once did they have a restricted drinking area: kanye west (real pity, since the show was rather unimpressive and might have fared better with some alcohol).

maybe they only do this for "troublesome" shows?  if that's the case there is a chance that oasis would qualify.

the last show i went to a Patriot center was Green Day a few years ago (shushh, i won the tickets and the wife wanted to go) and there was definitely a beer garden there then.

and i remember not being surprised about it either, so i am assuming it was like a a lot.

the green day beer garden, btw is a delightful experience as there were only like 5 people in it!

The last show I went to was the Cure and they didn't have a beer garden for that.  The one show I went to that had beer garden was on those hfs nutcracker ones.

There was a beer garden when Bowie played there, which was a blessing because the support band was the Stereophonics so the beer garden was a welcome escape from that crap.

I'm guessing it's based on the expected average age of the concertgoer.  Might not be a smart idea to allow people to buy beer and take it on the floor for the Panic at the Disco show.

Oasis probably draws a mostly +21 crowd at this point.

That being said, some of the most unruly drunk crowds I've ever seen have been at "older" shows.  The crowds are full of soccer moms who don't get out that often and are seeing a band they "loved in college".  They decide they're really going to whoop it up and end up pissing everyone off around them.

When the Raconteurs opened for Dylan there, they got a full hour.  It probably all depends.  Ryan Adams is a pretty high profile opening act, so I bet he gets closer to an hour.

Ticketfricker. I noted that convenience fees went up about 1-2 dollars between 8 am and 11 am but didn't know I was also paying a higher price. So, yes, they went up.

I saw the Killers there a many months back and there was several areas selling beer. I am not sure what is up with the seats on the floor (lame), but the last time I went, you could take a beer with you anywhere you'd like.
 Enjoy.

Did anyone get the T-Shirt/CD bundle from Ticketmaster during the presale?  I did not get any email on  how to redeem them. Please PM me with info if you know...

I didn't receive either. In fact, I have no idea what you are referring. But I want to know! I'm suspicious - or envious!

I'm really excited about Oasis. Last week, I bought my tickets finally. I'm taking my dad to see them as an early Christmas gift.

Yeah my 56 year old father loves Oasis. He was the first person to tell me about them as a band and that was when I was 10. (I'm 23 now in case you're wondering) Anyway, I'm totally excited because he knows that we're going but he doesn't know about where we're sitting. I scored section one on the floor in row F. I'm pretty damn happy about that, and no I didn't pay a scalper either. My dad is disabled and has mobility issues, so I made arrangements for "handicap" seats. I told the lady at the Patriot Center that I was willing to pay for the 72 dollar tickets. She was like "Is section one, row f alright with you?" I about died when she told me that she had those tickets. Needless to say, I can't wait to finally see Oasis, but also, I can't wait to see my dad's reaction about how close to the stage we are.

I'm going and looking forward to it.  I've never seen Oasis, and I'm excited for Ryan Adams again.   Annoying question, though - it's my first time going to the Patriot Center and I'm hoping to just use public transportation.  Is it as impossible to get a cab afterwards as their website makes it sound, or would I be able to call for one and have it pick me up?  Thanks for any advice!

Looking forward to this one as always.  I also get to see them next month in Europe as it coincides with a trip for work   ;D

I've never tired, but I'd guess you're probably not going to have a lot of luck doing that.  I think it would be hard for a cab to get into the parking lot as the police will be directing all the traffic out.  Why not rent a car?  You can probably get one for the day for what a cab fare would be.

Yeah, the website is hysterical "The Patriot Center is inadvertently accessible..."
I've never tried, but others have posted good points...how about taking a few local (to VA) cab numbers with you? (I do this and it does work when "stranded"...I think I have Yellow cab stored in my phone?)
Then, walk across the street to University Mall for a pick-up? (right across the street - Google map or something, and cops will be there negotiating traffic so you should be able to get across)
It's been forever, is there still a Giant there? A bar / restaurant? Anyhow, they should be open 'til at least midnight? They probably can call a cab for you too, some shoppers need them sometimes.

Oh and if any boardies wanna say "hi", I assume there may be a 15 minute break b/w Ryan and Oasis for people to get their smoke & beer.

(Thanks IMP for adding Matt Costa to the bill - missed his show earlier this year)

Thanks for the input.  I thought about getting a car, but I'm not a great driver and I'm completely unfamiliar with the area, so I really want to try to avoid getting lost somewhere I've never been at night.  I think I'll just try to store a few phone numbers and look for a store/restaurant/whatever to hang out at while I wait.  Hopefully it'll be a great show!

I'd strongly prefer to get lost in NE Washington, where there are cabs, metros and hos, rather than out in bumfuck Fairfax where there are... actually, I have no idea. Other than venturing out there with Sweetcell two years ago to see Muse, I don't know if I've been to Fairfax any other time in the last 10 years.

Anyway, I'm going thanks to Joe Marshmallow (manimtired! c u there! let's share a diet coke! I'll bring straws, u bring the lolz and bonerz! omg wtf fyi b2b ISDN). What's a ballpark stage time for Oasis, 9:00?

for those that don't have a car and have a license the way to go is just rent a zipcar! we did that for the white stripes show.

getting there is a snap ..just print the directions from mapquest...basically you get on 395 then get off at a certain exit... and go a few miles and make a right into the george mason univ.. really easy..about 25 minute drive with good traffic cond.

All I know is that the crime rate for my zip code is .22 times the national average. And as El Tee points out, that's probably higher than in Fairfax. Can the same be said for "NE Washington"?

I'll be heading to the show. Much more to see Ryan Adams and The Cardinals, but I am looking forward to seeing Oasis play some of their hits. Last time I saw them, like 7 years ago, was with the Black Crowes and they weren't playing Wonderwall and some others, which was fine because Slide Away was played, along with some other non-hits. But now I want to see them play some of the big hits.

Well my fear of getting lost in Fairfax isn't that it's a scary place, just that it's somewhere I've never been and don't know how to navigate. My worry about it being at night isn't because I think all the dangerous people will be out, just that it'll be too dark for me to see streets and signs well. I grew up in a relatively traffic-free part of the Midwest, and even though I've been in DC five years now, I still don't know my way around when it comes to going beyond city limits, and I can count on one hand the number of times I've driven here. I would like to avoid driving because it is not an ideal option for me personally, but if it turns out to be by far the most practical one, then I'll do it if I have to.

Any other set lists floating around for this tour?

The brothers Gallagher don't do varying setlists.  I'll be shocked if it isn't exactly what was written a few pages back.  The only hope is they do something special as its the last show before Christmas.  There's a cool Noel version of "Merry Xmas Everyone" by Slade floating around.

it'd be cool to see Oasis and Ryan Adams play something together since this is the last show of their touring together. I don't believe they have done anything together on the tours. It'd be fun to see live.

I hope Oasis gets Ryan Adams to come out telling him they'll do his version of Wonderwall for the crowd, and just as he starts they start to play "Summer of '69" - I would love Oasis more than I ever have, and I didn't think that was possible.

so what did everyone think?

maybe i just don't get ryan adams but i thought that was a pretty comatose/boring set...at least he was sober and wasn't drunkenly rambling like the only other time i saw him..i don't know what i'm going to tell my friend who couldn't come but absolutely loves ryan..there's so many people that swear by him but i just don't know what they see...

i enjoyed the oasis...they definitely don't work very hard.. hardly broke a sweat i'd say...and noel is a fairly mediocre guitarist (performing wise not songwriting wise)... but they have some great songs and to my ears the band sounded great and noel/liam both sounded wonderful on vocals (although liam it seemed couldn't hit a note or two every once in a while)...also liam is pretty darn static...he's got the same way of standing and singing during the entire show!..not sure what george harrison was doing playing keyboards as i thought he'd passed away... i thought don't look back in anger was a highlight....sounded great...i put up a few pix and a little video at www.47west63rd.blogspot.com

every once in a while its nice to see a band that at least act like they are rock stars...at least i appreciate it....some of the songs i wasn't familiar with sounded cool too..

final verdict
ryan adams 4/10
oasis  8/10

where i was at...about 10th row center on the left they could not care less who videod..surprising... a nice trend with bands allowing fans to video fully well realizing the stuff only serves to promote them (youtube, etc) and the fans will buy the more professional tour dvd anyways..

That's funny.  I never saw Ryan Adams before and am not that familiar with his stuff, but I thought his set was pretty good and thought they were pretty loose on stage cracking jokes (trying to) on the audience.

I thought Oasis was pretty comparable to when I saw them at Merriweather last.  They are not going to blow you away with their stage show but the songs more than make up for that.  Liam is Liam and his crowd stares when he isn't singing, I think is hilarious.  I thought it was a very enjoyable show.

matt Costa was also a good opener.

The band came on, they played the same setlist posted above, they reached the end of the setlist and they left. That was about it. I've never felt such a "let's just get this gig over with so we can go home" vibe from a band.

So, an... all right show, sounded good, production was quality, band sounded tolerable. I dug the Doobie Brother they had on keyboards. Andy Bell's facial expression throughout the entire show was one of someone sitting at home alone watching Law & Order. And it is pretty funny how Liam's one "showman" trick -- his only one -- is to stand perfectly still for 30-45 seconds at a time.

Reminded me why I strongly prefer to see new, hungry bands at small, shitty clubs.
Title: Re: Oasis
Post by: saintangelsin on December 22, 2008, 01:40:20 am
Last night was my first time seeing Oasis live, but it was my second time seeing Ryan Adams. I'm a huge fan of both. I got tickets for my dad as a christmas and birthday gift (his b-day is new year's eve). I got pretty damn lucky with my tickets...Section 1, Row E, and we were on the isle. My father was totally surprised and shocked about the seats I scored him. (my dad is a huge Oasis fan)

As for the show... Matt Costa was pretty cool. Never really listened to his stuff before but he seemed to have a good sense of humor about himself.

Ryan was great. I loved the set. As a fan, I was quite happy honestly. He was pretty spot on and the Cardinals are a tight band. Plus, I got a huge kick out of being so close because I got to yell a few things to the band and they said stuff back. But really there are some reasons why I thought the set was great.

1. Ryan was a lot more talkative and bubbly. When I saw him back in October of 07 at DAR, he barely talked to the crowd during his 3 hour set. So it might sound lame, but the jokes were quite nice.

2. He played "Come Pick Me Up." Huge deal for me, because he didn't do that one when I saw him last. Also, me and this guy kept yelling to him to play it, so it was sweet he did the song. (I'm assuming it wasn't on the originally intended setlist) The song itself is great, but I really enjoyed the rocked out version of it. He also did some great variations of some of his other songs...mostly the stuff from Easy Tiger.

3. While I didn't like the new album, hearing the songs live was really great and well now, I do like his new album. I'm a really picky fan and the fact after seeing him live convinced me to give Cardinology a chance I think says something.

Now as for Oasis, I fucking loved it. It was the total Gallagher swagger that I was looking for. Though I've seen the tour's set list, I was quite pleased with it. The sound was great, the visuals on the screen were great, and the song choices were fantastic. I pretty much got to hear all the songs I was hoping to hear (well except for "Live Forever", "D'you Know What I Mean",  "She's Electric", "Roll With It" and "Go Let It Out").

As for favorite moments...The Beatles cover was pretty fucking sweet. My other favorite moments have to be "Don't Look Back in Anger" and "Supersonic." I thought it was pretty funny how these girls behind me kept trying to get Liam and Noel to read their sign and Liam was like "Ladies, these glasses aren't prescription glasses. I can fucking read from where I am..." I also thought Liam's posing on stage was quite humorous. Another thing, Noel's guitar work was really great and the band was tight. My dad is a musician and can be highly critical of bands, so I was really happy to see that he enjoyed every moment of the show. (He was really impressed with Ryan Adams as well...I forgot to mention that earlier)

All and all, I thought it was a great night. I got to see one of my favorite bands and one of my favorite singer/songwriters. Not to mention, I got to have some high quality time with my dad.
