I forgot how much I love Alison Mosshart.
If you think that's bad, I forgot who Alison Mosshart even was!

Skinny model who dated Johnny Depp and then dated the fat guy from Libertines?

The Porno for Pyros show was amazing. Great energy and talent from everyone onstage and a really nice and happy crowd. Still smiling from Sunday. Needed that.

It's great to try to engage an occasional poster (Hi Kate, Great to see you!), but you know you can get that info online, right?

I'm happy to say that Mary Timony has "still got it".  She's the coolest.

I'm on track to see Birthday Girl like 5 times in a year. Really enjoying them...they're pretty fun.

I say this as someone who has positively reviewed my first three shows of the year....all good to excellent..but the Beth Orton show was so bad. A train wreck to me.

She kept saying it was "International Women's Day," but she was off by a week (Didn't she know that it was actually Combatting Islamaphobia Day?) She scolded the band for playing too slowly, stopping mid-song (did that twice) to start over, telling them it's International Women's Day and they need to play faster. Her once pretty voice is now a croaky Marianne Faithful-like voice that can't hit any of the high notes. Her 90's albums were clearly her career highlights (for me anyway, probably the same for many others?) but she chose to focus on the newer, more artier material that doesn't translate well live.

My kid's first comment was "Everything But the Voice,"  which meant she thought the music was good, but the singing was completely off. My wife was less charitable, saying "She just needs to retire."

Anybody else go?

Obv she can’t retire cuz she needs the $.

She’s really fallen a long ways from her days singing on Chemical Brothers tracks….

This business can be very cruel. I do think she is right to sing her new material particularly at a free show. I mean if you can’t sing what you want at a free show why bother? I doubt people at the show are buying her new records.

Free shows sometimes get a weird crowd. Not necessarily fans of the artist but fans of free shows.

Playing free shows might make anyone a bit strange.

Space was at a free show?  Color me surprised.

But the thing is, her 'new stuff" isn't really new. It's from 2012 and 2022. And it's 60%of her setlist  https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/beth-orton/2024/maurer-hall-old-town-school-of-folk-music-chicago-il-23aaa067.html even in her non-free show. Higher percentage last night.

I disagree about what to play at a free show. Half the audience isn't even going to know who you are. Play the stuff that's going to have the most widespread appeal. And the half that does know you os there for the older stuff.Though honestly with her voice the way that it was, those three songs didn't fare much better.

And look at Cock, always with the wittiest, most useful comments.
