I am not really passing judgment but I have kids and I don’t feel comfortable not taking precautions and giving my family the covid and spreading it so Friday and Saturday after work (Aziz) I didn’t go to the bar after the shows

When the wave comes down I will

I understand why people might not make the same choice
I agree on the wave. I stopped masking in summer when the case counts crashed and started back up as omicron and delta picked up. I'll continue to wear masks when cases are high -- because I just don't want to get it again despite it being mild -- but when they go low, I doubt I'll wear masks except where asked.

In the verrry early days, it was widely understood that if 100% of the population stayed at home for 2 weeks, the virus would die on the vine and we'd be done with it. I don't think anyone thought we were going to do that, but we've always known how to.

We are past the point where "eliminating" COVID
did anyone think that we were going to do that?  I don't know, first I've ever heard anyone mention it
Like if everyone worldwide stayed home for 30 days in May 2020 and we had 99.9% vaccination compliance worldwide, was there a theoretical path to R<1, sure.

They are vaxxed but that apparently doesn’t prevent you or anyone from gettzing or spreading it.

Whether it’s mild or not is another thing entirely

I don’t really care if it’s mild. I don’t want to get it and I don’t want to test my kids or partner either.

I am willing to take some risk… when the case counts go down I will hang out at the bar and not worry about my mask although hopefully the temperature picks up and can hang outside …I only have to wait a few days for the case count to go down…it’s on the way down today

Fantastic photo from the latest issue of The Nation. Tried to find original (credited to Kevin Frayer/Getty Images) but came up empty.

Maryland reported 2,690 confirmed cases today, about a fifth of the numbers a few weeks ago.

Fairfax County has dropped from 2400 per day three weeks ago to 600 per day now.

That's a wee bit more than the 5 per day we were averaging back in June and early July.

Some good news from the Post.

Antibodies that block omicron found to persist 4 months after Pfizer booster
The study suggests a second booster may not yet be necessary.

Stealth Omicron

"It's still omicron," she said. "It's just... sort of certain letters point one versus certain letters point two. It's a slight variation in terms of what is being picked up, but I want to be really clear it has not even been classified as a variant of interest yet... this isn't even a new variant, it's just considered a slightly different flavor of the kernel and we've seen that before."

What?  ???
