Introduce yourself to the board. Tell us about yourself. Your favorite movie, book, band, tv show, your age, your favorite hard cider, your marital status, your education, your hopes, your dreams, your darkest secret. Who you voted for in the last election or your views on the Lincoln Theater controversy. Or post a photo. Whatever, let us know who you are.
-
uh, how 'bout you first? if you're going to start a thread asking people to do something like this, it's best practice to lead by example and do it yourself ;D
-
yeah this should be good... ;D
I'm actually enjoying the board
;D
-
Atomicfront, you could also start by posting credit card numbers, social security #, etc. It'd be rude not to.
-
.
-
It's about time you arrived at work. I arrived at work at 6:20am. It's been lonely without you. I have managed to get a good deal done though.

It is funny you call me the troll but you guys can't even introduce yourselves and instead troll up the thread. I think I might be the only non-troll on the board. A board of trolls.
I never called you a troll. Some of us know each other through years of posting, meeting up at concerts, etc. If you want to meet some of us, then quit trashing the bands we enjoy and join us for something. Go out on a limb. Hang out, have a beer. Some of us are really quite nice. That's when you'll learn more. In real life.

gosh . . . is nobody willing to jump on the name game fame? not even your favorite book (anything by clive barker), your favorite tv show (twin peaks, csi miami, medium, ab fab, the young ones), your age (thirty nine, god almost forty), your darkest secret (candy crush), or dreams (to be fictional). nothing? nothing at all like that? come on. give in.
is internet anonymous really that appealing. lets take it slow and reveal little by little until we all feel comfortable enough . . . to actually meet in person and be civil humans. neato.
-
gosh . . . is nobody willing to jump on the name game fame?
if the OP isn't willing to play his own game, can you blame everyone else for doing the same?
"hey guys, jump off this rock, it's really neat. there is water below, you'll be fine. it's totally cool. what? me, jump? nah, you go first... i'll wait here and watch. no, really, go ahead." any takers?
lets take it slow and reveal little by little until we all feel comfortable enough . . . to actually meet in person
some of us are already doing this.
-
one - you are right.
two - i am aware that some are meeting, but sometimes i feel left out because i am so far away and i work all the time.
three - i like the way you single out sections of other peoples posts, in one white sectioned off block after another.

James Ford:
Short guy: actually 5'9.25"
early 50's:actually 46
married with a daughter: yep
1973 Pinto with a cassette deck: actually 95 Saturn. Wife drives the 2006 RAV4.
Cheapest guy any of you know: actually, thrifty. And that thriftiness means a) my daughter never had to attend daycare, b) she'll never have to get a college loan, and c) we both maximize our 401K contributions.
Musical taste is as dated as his car: Actually, i'm not the one who attended a Paul McCartney concert last week.
Pompous beer snob: True. What's wrong with that?
they don't let him do anything because he will mess it up: Not true
Clothing style is described as early Walmart: if you spend a lot of money on clothing, cars, or concert tickets, you are stupid. I mostly buy my clothes at thrift stores, you'd be surprised at the stuff people give away.

this is going to be . . . awesome.

Here's my attempt: Soon-to-be 38-year-old dude, full beard, worked at the Club for a spell around 97/98. Originally from Chicago, was heavily into the Wax Trax/Medusa's scene back in the day. Have a special soft spot in my heart for early 90's KMFDM. My favorite show at the Club is probably Aphex Twin. There has just never been anything like it before or since and it won't ever happen again. I'd put Kraftwerk up there too. But truly, there are way too many to list. I always love when something unusual or out of the ordinary happens at a show, like the guy who climbed over the balcony rail at Morrissey, leapt onto the PA stack, dodged a doorman and roadie and managed to get a hug from Moz. Or the time during Face to Face in 1997 when one of the bartenders did the most athletic running stage dive I've ever seen, did a somersault over the audience and practically ended up all the way at the back of the venue. The time during Curve when the drunk blonde girl picked a fight with the brunette she didn't even know, who broke the blonde's nose then proudly declared "that's what she gets when she fucks with a girl from Philly!". It was like a fight from Jerry Springer. There are way too many fun times I've had in addition to the actual concerts. Interviewing the Buzzcocks, drinking Australian pinot noir with Nick Cave backstage, partying at the Back Bar with Primal Scream. Great times. And that's just at the new club.

Favorite book is Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts.

I saw The Grateful Dead exactly 100 times.
I probably have over 200 R.E.M. records (as in vinyl).
I've been drinking coffee since I was 5 years old.
The only thing I hate more than politics is talking about politics.
I always stand in the back.
I'm going to buy a car in the next couple weeks. Open to suggestions.

;D
He was drinking vodka gimlets, I was drinking the wine from the Australian embassy that nobody touched. It was a surreal and very fun evening. Nick was sort of aloof but nice to me. I mostly talked with the Bad Seeds. The coolness of that evening isn't lost on me. But it was funny how "normal" it all seemed.

are you noticing that the reality of this thread, the introductions that have now begun to surface amongst us, making us feel nicer somehow already towards one another because we dont mind being friendly, beyond the mean girl approach of normal message boards . . . all the while, this might be the least amount of times atomicfrontage has posted in a single thread, and he started the damn thing. trying to think where this goes from here. maybe a next level of introductions, where you reveal your job, your family history and what you grew up with, your psychology and morals, plus the size of your cock.

Late to the party so I'll keep this short.
Male. 40's. Married. 2 kids.
Have lived in MoCo my entire life. Dying to move out.
First 930 show: Meat Puppets in 85?
Hard to pick a favorite 930 show but my wife wanted to kill me for taking her to see Killing Joke back in 89. Still makes me laugh.
Have not seen as many shows as the rest of you it seems.
Love going to shows alone.
Currently only have tix to Ceremony (CA) @ Ottobar.
MD grad. Diehard Terps and O's fan.
there ya go.....

If you were going to introduce yourself to Bobby Pollard, which do you think would be more effective?

b. hi, my name is Butch. Really love your work. Can I get your autograph?

I would just ask them to have a photograph with me if someone being famous had any importance to me. My ex-girlfriend had photos of herself with everyone.

i think famous people hate photos, more than autographs. autographs = respect. pictures = youre to close to my space, douche. oh look, i like saying douche, again.

Who cares what famous people like? They are there to entertain us. But I would rather have a photo with Meg White than an autograph from her.
-
"shut up and entertain me"
"now give me a picture"
yeah, that works

Greetings...
Late 30's. Female. Currently single. No kids. DC resident for nearly 2 decades. Bearman and I were classmates (and just hung out last week). Have met a few of you casually over the years-Sweetcell, KosmoVinyl (and evil santa!), Bags, Bombay Chutney and a few more that haven't posted here in years.
First experience at the club was to see Live with my then boyfriend back in 1993. I had been in DC for a few months. He stage dove a few times at that show from what I remember. Some of my best memories at the new club are Andy Rourke getting me drunk, hanging with the Chemical Brothers and nearly getting into a fistfight with some bitch over a Coldplay set list. I can't come up with a list of my favorite shows right now. Far far far too many.
Speaking of the club, I have a huge list of shows I need to buy tickets for in September and October after work tonight.
Music interests are very very broad. Everything from opera, to Cajun, to Rai, to bossanova, to rap, to whatever alternative is these days, to soul, to Britpop etc. Just not a fan of classical music and modern country.
-
how many people are sitting reading that not really caring about anything else . . . except that it is a girl, who is single, no kids? not me, i find the fact that she would fist fight over some fucking coldplay setlist, to be pretty awesomely awesome.

Lived in DC continuously since 1994 except for a 6 month stint in Egypt a while back
Have also lived in San Francisco, the Jersey Shore and Stuttgart.
Work for the feds right now, creature of DC, oscillate between the think tank world, Congress and the feds
Data geek
Food and beer snob
First concert: U2, Croke Park, 1987
Best concert ever: Tough call - some epic shows in Dublin back in the day. Nirvana (opening for Sonic Youth a week before Nevermind was released), Therapy?, Fatima Mansions etc
First 9.30 club concert: can't remember
Number of 9.30 club boardies I've met in person: A lot.....probably 15+
Most memorable 9.30 concert: The one where Elbow stopped mid-show to compliment the DJs taste in music ;D
Best 9.30 club shows: Sleater Kinney, Afghan Whigs, The Verve, Elbow, early Wilco, Hives - I am sure there are others my memory is a little shot these days
Books: Used to read a lot, less so w kids. Most recent book was a Jo Nesbo one - not very good.
