^ their new romantic/blitz era?

yeah.. they tried to redefine themselves...I'm not hearing the dramatic difference.. I mean yeah its not YMCA...it sounds like early 80s/new wavey to me... just not very good at it..

I don't think I need to go any further...I'm not sure I need In the Street from 1983 or Sex over the phone from 1985...
i think you'll be ok...
i would be concerned for you if you had an unquenchable need to hear or even own those later records.
once played a bat mitzvah as the pre and post show band for those guys.
the total bill for that shindig was in the $100,000 range i heard - at least we ate well that night.

mose allison - your mind is on vacation
mose allison - western man (white label promo)
many (missed) opportunities to see him, most regrettably at yoshi's in sf, due to blues alley vibe and attitude.

the cover of Lonnie Smith's Afro-desia is badass...

I like the music allright  cause I like Lonnie and soul jazz is one of my things...George Benson (uncredited) , Ron Carter are on this..

But the music ain't as great as the cover.. how could it be?

It says Bob Grosse (with an accent on the "e") but I have not found anything about him on the internet.. strange...

I listened to this one about an hour ago....I'm listening to jazz tonight.. night in..

Time Out is  a great album.. I think Brubeck gets a bad rap.. and Desmond who is a wonderful alto player seems to just get ignored.. he of course wrote Take Five which became Brubeck's signature tune....I once went to a music appreciation class and the instructor started out by playing this song...

The original LP copies do not say "Featuring Take Five"....they added that in later when it became huge...

Its a great record though...I was heartened to see that on Rate Your Music its about the top 200th rated album.. not bad..

cool artwork I think by Fujita who did some other cool ones for Columbia including Mingus ah um

I saw Brubeck once.. about ten years ago at the Lincoln.. very cool.. of course he did perform Take Five...

I'm not a huge Oscar Peterson fan but this recording has some sentimental value..for some reason its one I don't tend to see around..Maybe it didn't sell much?

Its amazing how many records the guy cut.. like Ella he was managed by Norman Granz who put out hundreds of sessions by him....I think Granz held him in higher stead than most critics and listeners...I don't think his music has aged particularly well.. I don't know much about music but his piano playing just seems very straightforward.. its sorta the anti-Monk... Personally it doesn't do very much for me.. I can't think of dozens of jazz piano players I appreciate more but its Oscar that cut hundreds of records.... Norman just loved him

On this record though its slightly cool to hear him play the piano to the tune of Sinatra's singing on those landmark Capitol recordings...
