Are you talking about the presale for Tuesday? It's fan club members only sale. Each member has a unique code. That's how they can restrict ticket purchases to 2 per member. No one can give you their password because then they wouldn't be able to purchase tickets.
-
You can get it right here. (http://www.u2.com/subscribe/)
-
Just the reason many of us have chosen to follow younger, fast evolving, cheaper, better, and less popular music. $40 just to get the chance to get tickets should be a major alarm going off. I'm looking forward to Arcade Fire this weekend. They may not be around in 25 years and sell tickets for 160 a piece, but who's making the better music now? I've seen u2 a few times, so I'm far from intrigued. You've got to really prioritize U2 to see them anymore... and most of people on this board have a hard time doing that... I believe.
-
I've seen them 4 times now, and unless they DO play Coachella. i dont think I'll be seeing them this time around. it is just a little pricey....
-
I've never seen them, so I think this will be the time. I've heard from many people that they put on a great show.
-
There is no DC date listed? Are they going to announce more dates later?

When is it? I see some North American dates on the pre sale page, but no DC date.
-
i saw some unofficial announcement that said that they would be coming back to the states next fall after they tour europe this summer
is there anyone on here who is a member of the U2.com fanclub? did you do well in the presale?
just wondering. i'm hoping i get at least one semi decent ticket when the tix go on sale to the rest of us.

I'm a fan club member, although tickets for my show aren't on sale yet. I'll let you know in a couple hours.
In the past, as a Propaganda Member (the original fan club) I was offered floor seats for one show for every tour. I basically stood in the GA for every tour since the Joshua Tree for $25-40. They offered us a discount for the new fan club ($20), so it was well worth it for me.
And the GA seats in the center or ring (the heart for the Elevation Tour) are $40 and they were guaranteed. Complain all you want about U2 making money off their fans with the $40 fan club, but we are practically guaranteed floor seats at $40 (break that down, it's only $50 a ticket for me) for a band that is one of the most popular on the planet - that sure beats a pre-sale password that's about as secure as this message board.
No hassles, no worries - well worth the money.
-
$40 is pretty cheap how much was Peter Gabriel trying for?
-
I saw U2 at the Tower Theatre in Philly in '84 and I also saw Bono fall on his ass and break his collarbone at RFK in '87.
I'm cooler than all of you.
-
Some of my Irish ancestors were named Hewson. Or whatever the hell his name is.
-
I would like to see them...
but only if could get a signed legal document that they wouldn't play anything post achtung for the first hour of their show.
-
So the best seats in the house will be the General Admission ones??
-
well
according to the news on a U2 list i read, the presale was pretty much a bust..and only 1 person got GA seats
teh rest of the seats were in the back of the arena for $165
glad i saved my bucks
-
As is becoming more and more customary, you're dealing with idiots on message boards.
The $160 seats are the seats on the floor.
The $40 GA seats are for standing on the floor in the circle.
The prices for seats around the arena (not on the floor) vary, but they do peak at $160.
-
so the whole floor isn't GA like the elevation tour? and about how many of the $40 dollar tickets are they selling. sounds to me like the whole best seats are only $40 bucks is a bit of uberhype to me. seeing as those will be selling on ebay for five times that....
-

I don't think so, but I'm not sure yet (ask me in 10 minutes). As I understood it, they were going back to the JT and Zoo TV Indoor model, front section no seats, back section seats. But of course, I could be wrong.

and ticket prices in anaheim go up to $165

I was able to get 2 floor seats ($49.50) for San Jose.
My sister was not able to get floor seats, but has 2 Lower Level Reserve for $95 for San Jose (opting NOT to go with best available and paying $160).
It was a pain in th ass compared to the previous lottery system they used for Elevation, Popmart, Zoo, etc. It took like a half hour, but I was never concerned that I wasn't going to get any tickets, it was just about where I was going to be. I think the difference is that previously, they spread it out over the 4-5 shows that they would be playing in town (from the lottery, you were pretty sure that you would get floor seats for a show, you just didn't know which show). Because they used TM, Fan Club members only had access to one show. I can see why it would be frustrating to many, especially the long term fans.
I did see that TM Euro has apologised to U2 fans for F'ing it up in a big way. (http://www.u2.com/news/index.php?mode=full&news_id=1301) I think I will be avoiding the U2 message boards for a few days.

awesome!
sorry i was so negative earlier
-
go check out ebay.
people are stupid, so why should it be . . . that am i so impressed with what others do with their money.
-
I tried and tried to get floor tickets for Chicago, but no luck. All I could find were nosebleeds.
Hope my $40 goes towards buying Bono another mansion.

You (and others who didn't get floor tickets) have every right to be. I too feel that they could have handled this better (like announce all the shows and spread it out for the fan club so that there is a true benefit for forking out the $40). There's no doubt they are going to add shows - that's why the schedule is so spread out.
So why not let everbody who forked out the money to be in your fan club have a shot at floor seats for one of the many shows you will play, not just the one that's on sale today?
And I also believe that you were correct in your assessment that the entire floor will be GA. So why the few tickets to fan club members? I feel very fortunate to have gotten floor seats, but I think others should be glad that their $40 got them seats - if you thought it was tough to get tix today, try again this weekend. That's going to be unbelievable. I do hope that U2 offers other goodies for the membership fee, although I'm sure many people signed up just for the tix, and are left disappointed today.

Gee, I thought my super-secret U2 password would only buy me 2 tickets, and here are these tools with dozens of them.
I wish 60 Minutes or Dateline or somebody would do a story on collusion between Ticketmonster and these dickhead brokers.

well if the presale bombed this badly, its only going to make this saturday when all the seats go on sale even more ugly. are they going on sale at 10 am est or the local time of the venue they are playing at? ie, san jose would be 1pm my time, but 10 am smackie's time?

Local Time of the Venue. So yes, 10 AM Smackie Time for SD, OC, LA, and SJ.

New Shows, North America.
U2 are hoping to return to North America for more shows this Autumn -
and rollover dates for the first North American leg are also on the cards.
While the Autumn leg is not confirmed yet, the already announced opening North American leg is likely to include rollover dates - that is additional shows in currently advertised venues. We will be mailing U2.Com subscribers who have not yet been able to buy tickets in the North American presale with early information on how to buy tickets at these additional first leg shows.
There has been a phenomenal demand for the 'Vertigo 2005 Tour' presale
on both sides of the Atlantic.
In North America - where venues are indoor and have a smaller capacity
- most fans have succeeded in getting their tickets but some venues , notably the New York Madison Square Garden show, have reached their presale capacity.
Fans may choose a different US venue but Paul McGuuinness, U2's manager,
has told U2.Com, 'We are sorry that presale tickets for the Madison Square
Garden show have sold out but it is the band's intention to play more
shows at Madison Square Garden in the Autumn.'

Don't worry. Scalpers probably already have most of the allotment of tickets available!
-
*sigh*
boston-no luck for all 3 dates
chicago-no luck for all 4 dates
san jose-no luck for both dates
philly-tickets for one show, thankfully.
anyone have much success?
-
Had my brother, a friend, and myself using two computers telling me nothing was available at 10:00:30. So out of maybe 22,000 tickets for each show, how many would you guess are available for public sale? Sure $50 for the low price/GA seats... but how many ya got? If your outfit is selling 90% of those to brokers at $100 bucks a pop before public sale, and they are selling them for, well... you know? As Bono would say "Where's the glory in that?" Screw 'em all. I enjoyed them once, and still enjoy... but there market is clearly the casual music fan yuppie, or overly devoted low pockets. Either way, I'm out and don't care anymore. Arcade Fire will be amazing all the while listening to my TV on the Radio on the way to the show.... and both currently kick U2 arse.

U2.Com has posted a story today acknowledging the ticketing problems
that have occurred for fans and apologizing for the problems. "U2.Com
would like to take this opportunity to apologise to those people, both
U2.Com subscribers and those that attempted to buy tickets when they
went on general sale, who were unable to obtain a ticket for their
preferred venue." The story goes on to acknowledge that ticket brokers
were a prominent problem in the sales and assert they are working with
authorities to cancel these ticket sales wherever possible. The
apology continues with "We are sorry that this has happened and we
would like to offer anyone who has a still unused unique access code
the opportunity to get their U2.Com subscription money back." Further
details on how to obtain refunds will be published on Wednesday
February 2nd, and members availing themselves of this offer will not
be able to take part in any future U2 ticket presale. The story closes
with this quote: "We are sorry if we inadvertently gave the impression
that the $40.00 subscription guaranteed you the tickets of your
choice." Follow the link to read the entire story.

i love u2; i got tickets
i hate u2; i didn't get tickets
ha-hah
figure out how the system of ticketmaster works, and maybe you'll know how to get tickets, for any show.
and again . . . ha-hah

Thanks, MaLo, for the U2.com story. Tooms from the board had several people try to Madison Square Garden tickets this morning during the general sale, and not one was successful. That's insane -- and trust me, Tooms knows his ticketmaster.

I can't hold back from bragging any longer! Did I mention that when I was a junior at GWU in 1981, one of my classmates (Mark Kates who later became Nirvana's record company guy at Geffen) dragged me a few blocks over to Georgetown where we saw two U2 sets for $3 total? It was so uncrowded that we walked right up to the stage where Edge accidently knocked over my beer. That wasn't even their first show there, apparently they played the Bayou in Nov 1980 to even fewer people. Later in 1981 I saw them again with Bow Wow Wow ("I Love Candy") at the Ontario in Adams Morgan and haven't seen them since. I still think U2 is a good band, but I don't get paying tons of dough just for a night out.

I missed U2 playing in a East Lansing bar around the same time due to something called Finals Week, just what was I thinking...

Yeah, my brag used to be that I saw the first DC show but apparently not

I think the Prince model will be the model for fan club pre-sale in the future.
Sign up, pay your membership fee, sign up for tickets at your venue, pay for them in advance and there will be a ticket waiting for you at Will Call. Good one's too. That will cut down on the scalping.
It's the only way this will work and make everybody happy.
-
Well, if we're trying to play "top this" (Sorry!): I saw them in December, 1980 at the Paradise in Boston. They opened for a metal band. They didn't have enough songs, they had to play 2 songs over again becausethey got two encores. Can't believe it's been almost 25 (gulp) years.
Looks like they made a good effort at least trying to fix this fan club ticketing mess. I received an email from Ticketmaster saying they knew I tried, but couldn't get tix thru the fan club pre-sale. I needed to submit some info to them, via email, and if they had tickets for my requested show, they would call me. Right. Like I believed that. But, I emailed anyway and guess what...Ticketmaster called and I got my two G.A. tickets, $50.00 each, for the show I wanted. I've heard they've emailed a lot of people.
So, I saw this band in 1980 for $5.00, and now, 25 years from the first show, for $50.00. Seems like a bargain. Don't know any other band that's been together nearly as long charging so little. I know they have expensive tickets too, but charging only $50.00? That's unheard of.

I first caught them at the US Festival in '83 when my folks took me there (they wanted to see some guy named Daivd Bowie). They played with Berlin, Quarterflash, Missing Persons, the
Pretenders, Joe Walsh, Stevei Nicks and Bowie. Bowie was great, but I remember seeing the lead singer trying to climb to the top of the tarp that covered the crowd to place a white flag upon it during "Sunday Bloody Sunday". He dropped the flag, fell into the crowd, disappeared for a while, and came out holding his arm. Jumped right back into the song and finished the set.
At 9 years old, I thought he was the coolest guy I had ever seen. The first guy since Terry Bradshaw to be cooler than my dad.
Looking back, it was my dad who was cool enough to take me with him. If only he would have known what he started.

memories are molded by money, unfortunately. i still remember one of my first shows: u2 at rfk in ninety-two. i spent the money, and still feel the fun of the entire evening, when i think to it, even though i almost ran out of gas in the parking lot. (ha-hah)

*seething*
i got shut out of nyc too! so out of 12 shows i tried for, in 5 cities, i got tickets for 1 show. and i should count myself as fortunate unlike 99% of the other fans who got shit!

Two tickets for the 21st!! (But I also agree with the claim the TVOTR and The Arcade Fire are much better now)

i did see them 5 times on the eleveation tour tho, so, if worse comes to worse, i guess i can skip this one

My missus saw them play the Mardyke in Cork at some outdoor festival years and years ago when they were just "four fuckers from Dublin"....to Corkonians anyway.
The two times I saw them was the zoo tv thingie then the shopping cart one, both shows were brilliant.
Fans here in Ireland are all kinds of pissed off at them. To get the pre-sale bullshit they had to join some website club or something. â?¬40 just to join, then you got to buy a ticket....only for the band to add a second show in Dublin, and most probably a third. So the fact they had a pre-sale was just a cash cow for Bono and the boys. TAX FREE cash cow I might add because U2 don't pay any taxes whatsoever in Ireland....which begs the question, "If you don't contribute, what right should you have in telling governments what to spend their money on?" SHUT THE FUCK UP WITH THE POLITICS AND JUST SING BONO!!!!
-
You people all just need to sneak into the MCI Center like I did in 2001. True story. I knew PJ Harvey's soundman and he was going to get me working passes for the first DC show at the MCI Center. He already got me into one of the Chicago gigs for free, into the heart no less.
For the DC show, I was supposed to meet up with him and we missed each other. He had to go work since PJ Harvey was going on. Somehow I found an open door and just walked right up to the sports bar in the MCI Center, then showed my old wristband and walked down to the floor...they didn't let me on, but some guy who worked for U2 overheard my story, handed me a floor ticket, and I walked right up to my buddy while PJ was rocking away. He was pretty stunned when I told him what I did. Great thing was that I sold my working pass after the show to some guy on the street for $40. :) I know, I suck.

When I was a student, I used this one all the time. At least 50 times I saw a concert, basketball or hockey game by doing this.
The elevators for the suite level weren't covered on the ground level (they still might not be, it's been years). Get in the elevator with a large group. When you get to the club level, walk with the group out of the elevator and try to get in the middle. Sometimes they're asking for tickets, sometimes they're not, but it's easy to sneak by either way (one guard, a dozen people). For the first few years, they only asked for tickets when you asked to be let into your suite. There are plenty of doors on the suite level to the other levels. Just go through one of those doors and you are past the turnstiles and in the arena. Get two drinks in your hand when you face a guard blocking an aisle and now you're in any row you want, no tickets.
-
golly beaver, those are wonderful stories of sneaking into venues and ripping off the place and the proceeds that go to the band. (let's us sneak into your worksite and take a small piece of your paycheck for the job you do) and people wonder and bitch to why prices for everything cost so much.
ha-hah
-
Why does a guy who's driving a Beemer at 23 need to sneak into hockey games?
-
Hmmmmm...think that U2 was hurting from my sneaking into the venue? I seriously doubt it. I would never do that to a band that is struggling to put meals on the table. As it was, someone from U2's management gave me a free ticket anyway. Besides, I knew someone working for PJ Harvey, and that guy is still a friend. I felt like I had a reason to be there instead of ripping off an artist. But that being said, given how many people got screwed over in getting U2 tickets this time around, I don't have any moral objections if they decided to do try what I did. $40 for the CHANCE to buy a ticket? More power to the people who want to go see that band. It always amazes me to see how many people never show up to big concerts, where you could see rows of empty seats from no-shows.
-

It was age 21 actually.
Oh, and it was about 10 years old, had 100K+ miles on it and was worth a mere $6000.
I sold it to get a much coveted graduate degree that you, in your infinite wisdom, tell every other young person on the board to get. So while I was a student taking on astronomical loans, I debated between buying a ticket or geting a beer and some grub, but after the first few times I bought the tickets, I realized that with the squad the Caps and Wiz were putting out there, they weren't worth me paying my money for a ticket. So after I was invited to a game in a suite and nobody checked my ticket, the decision was made quite simple for me.
Oh, and I never snuck into U2. For concerts I REALLY wanted to see, I wouldn't take the chance of not getting in, so I always bought tickets. I'd say I only snuck into two, maybe three concerts.
Any more questions there, bright guy? I'm not sure if there's anything I get more pleasure out of on this board then dismissing one of your silly backhanded comments. Get a rise out of the newbies or the young'ens, because I find your games a bit trite.
