Hey guys, I'm going to catch my first show at Iota Club and Cafe but was wondering if it might sell out. Any guesses on what the capacity is for that place? And how's the food there? Thanks.
-
160 capacity. Get there early if you think it's gonna sell out. No idea about the food.
-
Food is decent, but there are better choices in the neighborhood.
Did it take a Jimmie's Chicken Shack appearance to finally get you to Iota?
-
actually SR-71. i NEED to get their autographs and a picture with them or someone's gonna pay.
-
I like the food (where else are you eating Rhett?)..but it's slightly overpriced and the serice is "eh". They also did away w/ some of the better and lighter appetizers. The fries are the best!
-
mexi cali across the street has pretty good mexican
-
The IOTA is a cool venue. Too bad there aren't any good bands playing there.
-
lotsa smoke. stay in dc. you can meet the band on the sidewalk during the set change. you can also see the show on the sidewalk.
-
I like Faccia Luna for pizza. And Cafe Asia is not too far away. Sawatdee Thai is good. La Tasca for tapas is not bad given it's a chain. Never been to Boulevard Wood Grill, but the food looks good when I walk by the outdoor area.

The bands playing Iota today will be playing the 9:30, Black Cat, and Birchmere tomorrow.

There is a long wait for Faccia Luna (and other restaurants around there). Last time I went there they were a bit snotty. But yes, the food is decent.
La Tasca - ate there for the first time a few weeks ago - service and food both horrible.
-
Do you have any recommendations for tapas places in DC?
What I don't get is the priciness of tapas places here. It's like they're trying to take blue collar food and charge white collar prices.

Funny you say that. Feist had some very kind words for Iota last night. She mentioned how grateful she was to them for being one of the first venues to book her regularly in the US.
The people who pay the cover just to drink and socialize suck though.

Umm, maybe a 25% chance they will.

I've been told Jaleo is popular...

I loved Iota the only time I've been there so far, but it was Agents of Good Roots and as they are my favorite band, I think it'd have had to be an absolutely disastrous show for me to hate it.
I liked the sound (for someone who's got severe hearing loss, I could hear so much), and their drinks were yummy.
-
But definitely not blue collar.

Considering the type of venue and it's modest decor, I think the food at Iota is fairly good and much better than I had expected considering that the club portion looks like it would be more of a burger and wings joint. Sure, I could nit pick on a few items but I've always been rather pleased with what I've had. It's not cheap but about comparable to other similar menu items around town. I'm not a big pizza fan so I would opt for Iota over any pizza joint anyday. But that's me.
[sarcasm]Of course, unlike the Birchmere, you don't go to Iota for the food.[/sarcasm]
