Alright, I took the afternoon off to watch the game so I'm going to share my thoughts with you folks since the majority of the west coast is still and work and not here to hear me drop some knowledge.
That and Smackette will tire of me by the bottom of the first. There is a Red Sox fan on his way over - he's the prototypical Sox fan too so I might let him pipe up a bit.
3 minutes before game time and I've convinced myself there's no way the Angels can win this game.
-
First surprise from TBS - Jose Mota (a Halo commentator) is the on field reporter.
Couldn't they find a hot Novella star to be the spanish speaking on field reporter?
-
And a surpise from the Angels - with Vladdy hurting, Scioscia's going with Figgins in right and starting Macier Izturis at third instead of Rivera in right and Figgins at third.
That's a lot of speed for the Angels when you consider Willits is in center.
-
I'm a little disappointed the Sox fans didn't give Cabrera a standing O. I guess that means the life span for showing appreciation for ending a nearly 90+ year drought is 3 years.
-
Uh-oh. Garrett Anderson is fighting what looks like pink eye! His right eye is nearly closed.
I wish I were making this up. He looked silly against Beckett.
After the top of the first, Figgins is stranded on third.
-
And just like that, Lackey is touched up for a long ball - Youk.
This is going to be a long night for smackie, and he reaches for his first High Life. I was planning on waiting until the 5th or so....
-
At least there's JD Drew to kill a rally. The Sox hit Lackey's fastball well, but 5 straight curveballs to Drew got him out of it.
Still, if you're an Angel fan you're worried about how well the Sox hit Lackey's fastball in the first.
End of first - 1-0 Sox.
-
Beckett with a rather easy 1-2-3 top of the second. The Angels are not working the count and have no hope of getting to the bullpen at this rate.
-
That, at first glance was an atrocious call by Brian Runge on the stolen base by Lugo. The slo-mo made it closer, but I still think he was safe.
And people accuse me of being biased.
Anyhow - still 1-0 Sox after two.
-
TBS just somehow missed the first play of the inning. Unacceptable.
Oh, and will somebody kill Dane Cook? Annoying...
-
The Avis commerical featuring both Morgan from "Chuck" and Bonnie Tyler's "Don't Turn Around" where the driver falls in love with his GPS navigation device spurred the One hit wonder conversation.
The Sox fan went with "Sister Christain" as the greatest one hit wonder of all time. I went with Dexi's Midnight Runner "Come on Eileen."
-
Big Papi just hit the same homerun he hit in August right down the line. Amazing how well the 2-3-4 hitters hit Lackey's fastball.
-
Beckett is cruising...
I'm so bitter that I'm arguing that the Beckett trade was bad for Boston. Go Hanley Ramirez...
-
How sad is it that I'm rooting for blisters?
15 consecutive retired for Beckett and the Angels look lifeless.
And 2-3-4 hitters are coming up again. I should have had my wisdom teeth taken out today instead of Friday.
-
Since the Angels have one hit through six, I thought I'd take this opportunity to comment on TBS HD feed. It's really clear. So clear that I'm reminded how f'ugly the Boston fans are. I can't wait for the series to get to Anaheim and see the pigtails.
And no, I'm not being bitter, they really are hideous women in Boston.
-
And the HD feed is so clear that Cabrera, Geurrero and Man-Rams helmet all look disgusting. I love it.
-
Oh boy, Ervin Santana to the rescue. What are his home numbers? Oh wait, we're in Fenway.
Is it Friday yet?
-
We just discovered that the Ducks are playing the Red Wings over on VS-HD. Think the Sox fans would get pissed if I changed the game in the 7th?
The answer is yes. They were not happy, but I laughed. Ducks are up 2-1 after two by the way.

Where do guys with flavor-savers rank on your list of people who need a beat down?
It used to be #2 on my list, but after this performance by Beckett it's leap frogging guys over 30 with ponytails and for the time being will be #1 on my list.
-
At 101 pitches and letting Beckett throw the 9th is a mistake - especially in the playoffs.
This tells me that Francona doesn't like his bullpen either.
And that catch by Elsbury is a base hit if Man-Ram is in there. Nice move by Francona.
-
Damn. 2 hours, 30 minutes. Beckett made quick work of the Angels. Is it too late to change my vote for Cy Young?
The Angels only hope is game 2 and I still like our chances. I know, I'm insane, but I really think the bullpen will falter. I've banked on that from the beginning.
-
Beckett didn't even break a sweat. that was Pedro '99 esque.
i was very happy w/ the TBS coverage. EJ, Ripken, Thomas in studio were on point and Steve Stone is good in the booth. So great not to deal w/ lame FOX coverage and Buck and McCarver.

He wasnt THAT instrumental. We'll be telling our granchildren about Dave Roberts, not OC.
As for the women, there are hot women in Boston,
but the single ones either don't care or their husbands/boyfriends stop taking them to games in October and take their buddies instead.
-
i have a couple of thoughts, since i was out getting trashed last night. i did watch innings 2-7. (yes, i am so sure we're gonna win, that i am not really even watching til the ALCS)
Beckett can throw 120 pitches, its cool, hes only 27.
i did laugh when i saw Beckett went all the way cause all i have been hearing is bullpen, bullpen, bullpen. and then we play the game, and we dont even NEED a bullpen.
and Daisuke is capable of throwing 110 pitches too so he could easily go 7 or 8 innings tomorrow.
I am glad Papi got a HR early in the post-season, we're gonna need him later.
and as i said before (maybe not on here):
JD Drew holds the key to us winning the World Series...see how many times that guy is up with men on base? if he gets hot, we dont lose another game!
oh and that Beckett trade? they got Mike Lowell in that deal as well. I am just mad they let carlos Pena go last season!

Good. Runners on first and second, two outs - he grounds out. Runner on first, one out, he hits into a double play. No one on, he grounds one up the middle that should have been an out, but Lackey gets in the way.
Looks like you won't be winning the World Series unless you pick up Stephen Drew.

I agree. I don't care for EJ, but Thomas (after he got the deer in the headlights look behind him) and Ripken were great.

we can win it without Drew, but if he gets hot, we pretty much can't lose it. he needs to bat ninth though, seriously.

Bill Simmons is that you??

they are still number 3. number 1- white people with dreads. 2- guys over 30 with ponytails. 3- guys with soul patches.

I wasn't anywhere near my best, let alone Simmons level. I didn't realize how difficult it would be to be entertaining when you're fully engaged and have a stake in the event at hand. I will stick to awards shows from here on out.

After tomorrow they will be. But while I have to read about how dominating Beckett's performance was, they will remain #1 on my list. My bad for forgetting about white people with dreads though - they should be ahead of people over 30 with ponytails, but behind people over 30 with ponytails and flavor savers.
