Hmmm...a Thursday nite - much better than a Tuesday for road trippin'.
Know anything about that place RC?
-
It's a small space, so get a ticket soon. Capacity is about 300, slightly bigger than the Khyber, but not by much. The stage is weird. It's about 6 ft off the floor (vs. the near-floor level stage at the Khyber) with a set of steps leading up to it for the band. There is a balcony area, too. The last show I attended there wasn't sold out, but it was quite full, so it'll be interesting to see how folks dance and move about in there.
It's kinda off the beaten path when it comes to clubs in Philly.

I *just* read about the Twilight Singers...I suppose they're worth checking out, no?
-
That would be an affirmative.

Know the Afghan Whigs Bags?
This is the lead singers latest project. Not the same, but still very good. Dulli is a must see live.
Check these:

I highly suggest this band as a live act. (But I'm not big on Fletchers.)
The Twilight Singers show was my favorite show for 2003. And it might be for 2004 as well - if I can get up the energy for a Tuesday drive up to Baltimore.

Why is he a "must see" live?
We heard some Afghan Wigs on KEXP the other day, and both didn't care for it.
-
Why is he a "must see" live?
Because he's a highly entertaining drunk, who happens to make good music!
-
Tickets for the Fletcher's show went on sale this morning. Agree about the school night thing-- Philly on Thursday is the better option.

So true!!! And he was pretty drunk at the 2003 Black Cat show. He came out and yelled "It's friday night, are you guys ready to party?!"
-
Greg Dulli + Alcohol + DC on a Friday night = Good times. :)

a few years ago at a 9.30 show he was riffing on DC being 'Chocolate City', then took a look at his 95%+ white crowd, took a look at his black backing singers and commented, 'You're a grain of pepper in a big salt cellar tonight'

Of course, this is just my opinion...
#1) He is the author/creator of some of the greatest records EVER
&
#2) He's one of the most entertaining frontman - swagger, sexuality, humor, etc.
1 + 2 = must see

hear, hear!

#3 The setlists are pretty extensive and he can work in a cover pretty seamlessly.
#3.5 The band keeps the party going for a good 2 hours (and then some at the last DC Black Cat show)

ditto

Blasphemer!!!!
It's definitely an acquired taste. If I heard an unknown song out of context, I may well have felt the same.
I wouldn't recommend the Whigs for Sunday afternoon listening, but, in the right environment - at the right time - there's nothing finer.
And it definitely makes for better mood music than Nada Surf :D

Anyone from the DC area traveling up to Baltimore for the 3/30 Fletcher's show? I'm car-less at the moment. :( More than happy to chip in for gas, cigarettes and/or the first round of drinks.
