Sorry if this has been already been posted, but I looked all over and couldn't find anything...
Sunday, 3/27, 9:30 Club
HELL YES. "Little Sister" is an amazing song. I cannot wait to hear this new record.
-
It was posted on page 65 of Just Announced.. Can't wait!
-
Ah yes, now I see it. I peruse the JA thread but always seem to miss things in it. I wonder when tickets will go on sale for this show...the London shows sold out in a matter of minutes.
-
Wow, are these guys really that good? I saw them but wasn't blown away by them to say the least. I thought the opener And You Will Know Us By Trail Of Dead were much, much better. But It's looking like I'm probably in the minority on this one.

Yeah, you are. ;) I saw QOTSA 5 or 6 times during their last tour and they were really great live. I really didn't care for Trail of Dead when they opened, but that tour got me turned on to the Burning Brides. The show that sticks out for me is when Turbonegro opened for QOTSA at the Norva. Ahh, memories...
It will be interesting to a) hear the new material live (new album comes out 5 days before the 9:30 show) and b) see the band post-Nick.
-
I saw QOTSA in San Francisco in October of 2003, it will forever go down as one of the best shows I've ever seen. The first 45 minutes felt like I was in a category 5 hurricane. The stoner crowd initially just watched slack-jawed, then by the end people were just going totaly mental.
Personally, I think what makes QOTSA appealing to me is the fact that they are basically a heavy band with an undercurrent of sexuality. The songs that rock hard always sway to some degree. I think Josh said once said that their music was "hard enough for the boys but sweet enough for the girls" or something to that effect. I am curious to see how they will be without Nick Oliveri, I've always loved some of his songs...he's the druggie punk rocker who screams as good as Husker Du-era Bob Mould or Frank Black.
When they played with Trail of Dead they were still breaking in Joey Castillo...the time with Dave Grohl on drums was probably a more impressive show.

I was at that show as well and it kicked my ass. It was the kind of show that makes you say "Shit Goddamn!" :D
I'm a big fan of Nick, so it will definitely be interesting to see what the energy's like on stage this time out. It was entertaining to watch Nick because you never knew if he would come on stage wearing clothes...or not.
-
I was on a high for 2 weeks after that SF show. I felt as though I had been sucked into a black hole, atomically rearranged, then spit back out. It was just insane, one of those rare concerts where it raises the bar in terms of what you think a rock'n'roll show could be. The band were wrapping up 1 1/2 years of touring and it was the last night of their proper tour (they followed up with a couple of shows). It definitely made me a compulsive QOTSA fan. They're just amazing.

i was there. that was a fun show. far more fun than i thought it would be.
i'm hoping this will be on sale by next wednesday since i'll be in dc and hopefully can buy a ticket at the box office.
-
If Little Sister is a good representative of the rest of their album, it will be RAWKIN'!
-
i can't wait for this show, i love these guys. of course they aren't the same without nick, but i have a feeling they will be good. i've seen them 4 times i think? and each time they still amaze me. i love when they play the old songs like feel good hit of the summer

It was off their second album, not that long ago.
-
I'm going to ask one of the annoying questions so please don't throw pellets at me: when do tix go on sale?

And I'll respond accordingly: when they show up here (http://purchase.tickets.com/buy/TicketPurchase?orgid=3595).
:p
-
I got off my lazy but and checked their site...no word as of yet. However, I did see this little factoid "Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath is the new bassist"

I can't find that anywhere on their site.
-
One of their fans posted it in the comment area of the ticket section.
-
I really hope you guys aren't taking that as fact. :D

Oh, well then, I'll alert the media.

nope
-
Eagles of Death Metal are the opener, according to pollstar.
-
This is going to be great...I cannot wait to hear the new record either.
-
Yeah, wasn't there supposed to be a DC101 presale today?? I had a meeting, so knew I couldn't give it a try, and had since forgotten about it. Wondering what happened.
- EDIT -
Just tried, and here are all the answers:
Queens of the Stone Age
Sunday, 3/27/05, 7:30PM EST
9:30 Club
Washington, DC, USA
There are no longer tickets available for this presale.
This event is currently not available for sale through the web. It is scheduled to go onsale at: 02/10/05 10:00AM EST.
-
Don't yell at me whoever yelled at me last time. I've just seen this info on the presale in the "Just Announced" thread, though it makes a hell of a lot of sense to be in a QOTSA thread (which was the top thread when I got here.....)
-
i haven't gotten my ticket(s) yet so hopefully they'll still be available.
-
i'm going to sound like an elitist asshole, but the best time i've seen queens of the stone age was in a tiny room in boston on the self-titled tour, around january 1999. this was when kyuss were still pretty unknown and the whole room was full of dirtbag bikers and stoners. they had strobe lights and smoke and were loud as hell. i still prefer the first record best.
over the years, i've seen them about five times now and i'm getting increasingly bored. i'm not anti-pop, but i think by adding poppier elements, they've become more accessible, and thus, more watered-down. the electricity isn't there for me anymore, and with nick gone, it'll probably have even less of an edge.
regardless, i'll be there, though i'll probably be working.
if you guys wanna see an incredible heavy/stoner show, check out earthride, unearthly trance, and pb army at the warehouse on february 26th.
^shameless plug^

Sounds like a great show. Along with you I prefer the first album and have liked each subsequent one a little less. I DL'd the new one last night and let's just say I'm hoping it grows on me.
-
the new album is okay i guess....still weaker than Rated R IMHO.
-
Kyuss ruled! I spent a summer listening to nothing but Kyuss and Cop Shoot Cop.
Allen's wrench......It's all you get!

Guess I'm in the minority that thinks that they are moving into a good direction. I found their first record to be too monotonous, even though I like some of the songs on there. Rated R was great, but Songs for the Deaf has rarely left my CD player for more than a week or 2 since it came out. Personally, I like melody...but there is still plenty of weight to their music. I saw QOTSA back in 1999 when they opened for Smashing Pumpkins and was thoroughly unimpressed...but I am always willing to give a second chance and loved Rated R. Needless to say, I still think they're going to be great without Nick (but I will miss his screaming).

Eagles of Death Metal are also playing the Ottobar Wednesday March 23rd. Tickets go on sale this Friday!!!
-
do we think this show is going to sell out today or tomorrow?
-
I very, very rarely buy tickets online, but I did for this one. I think it's a possible swift sellout, but I've been way wrong before. However, for me, if I missed out on tickets, I'd be furious with myself, so I went for it.

Most of the other shows on the tour sold out within a day. Proceed with caution.

DITTO!!
-
We tried to get tickets earlier this morning but we've been having a recurring problem with tickets.com. We can add tickets to the cart, but when it comes time to checkout, the cart doesn't display correctly and the site hangs.
Anyone else having this problem?
-
I got my ticket OK...this one will definitely sell out within a few days. I'm bummed that it's a DC101 show. But hopefully a lot of the die-hard fans will show up. I am just glad I'm getting to see them play at the 9:30 again.
-
xcanuck, can't you call tickets.com?
Bunnyman, do you think the DC101 sponsorship will have any ascertainable impact on the makeup of the audience? I don't, I think QOTSA fans will show up...
Listening to Ash right now as I don't have QOTSA with me at my office -- bitchin'!!!
-
i got my tickets. i can't wait to go. i just don't know if its going to be the same without nick because all my favorite songs were ones that he sang. i'm i qotsa diehard, so i had to go anyways
-
i saw them at the hfs nutcracker a few years back and was impressed.
-
I think that DC101 sponsoring might have a bit of an impact, but I'm thinking that it will sell out before many of the "oh I heard this rawkin' band called Queens of the Something Age, dude, they're killer!"-type people get tickets. I've seen it happen at certain shows. The QOTSA crowd in San Francisco in 2003 was pretty die-hard. God, what an awesome show that was.
-
By the way...I'll be the first to freely admit that I can be a musical snob. My apologies to anyone who listens to DC101 and finds out about the QOTSA gig that way. Check out the show, it will be a good one. Just forgive those of us die-hards in advance. :)
-
Sold Out.
$50-$60 on eBay
-
Probably due to Bunnyman's encouragement of DC101 listeners to check them out.

I have two tickets and there is at least a small possibility that I won't be able to go. If not they will be in the ticket exchange at face (plus the tickets.com crap). All depends when I go bak in the hospital for surgery #4 on my broken arm!

MARK LANEGAN made a surprise appearance with the QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE last night (February 14) in MILAN.
Despite the band announcing almost a year ago that Lanegan would â??officially no longer be playingâ? with them, the former Screaming Trees man sang co-vocals on eight songs at the Transilvania Club.
The show also marked Queens Of The Stone Ageâ??s official return to live duties. They had performed earlier this month at a secret gig in Los Angeles as The Clocks, but the Italian date was their first in a year under their own name.
The band continue their tour throughout the month, and play two shows in a night in London on March 3.

Posted on the QOTSA site (http://www.qotsa.com/):
A letter to ya'll from Joshua Homme
Dear everybody,
First I'd like to say thank you to all well wishers. Your words & thoughts were printed out for me to read & you know what, it meant alot to me. It was just cool to see sweet things instead of bottles of meds that were not meant for recreation. You guys are alright. I'm trying to think of something cool for all who still got the tix for the shows missed. I'm thinkin a free vinyl "45. I just wanted to say thanks for understanding. I feel better already
second, I am sorry to confirm recents rumors about the E of DM cancelling from our tour. The reasons for this tragic cancellation are financial, family oriented & depending on your view, sexual. This discouragingly shitty news wasn't brought to my attention until wed night & remained uncorrected, even after evasive action, as late as fri morning. I wanted nothing more than to watch the Eagles of Death Metal dip the boogie in the woogie on every night of this tour, so please don't blame me for their cancellation. If you accuse me of daring to stop the E of DM, then the terrorists win. So if you think I did something eaglenegative, you love terrorism & support terrorists. So, I blame you back. let's see you get off your couch & do something to help, you know it all. There are only two positives in this whole eagle free rock tour:
1) We can tour w/ the Eagles on a later, LONGER, US tour. I think that's damn good news!
2) The crazy desert Other white meat, Sean Wheeler, will be leading his band Throw Rag into a headfirst leap into your musical hearts & minds instead. You will not be bored with Throw Rag up your ass. They are classic & rip'roarin', hell yeah!
Either way, Let's make the best of the rest... or you can cry, but not here. From all of Us here at Queens & Eagles, we say, "drink wine & screw"
-
Lullabies to Paralyze is finally sinking in. I was impressed with the first few songs initially, then disappointed with the rest, but now I've got to say it's a really good record. Not great, but solid. Kind of like all 3 of their previous records rolled into one.
-

Agree w/ that
I'm looking forward to hearing "Someones in the Wolf" live... <img src="http://www.dimpleandasmirk.com/_images/avatar.jpg" alt=" - " />

Apparently that's what they opened up with the other night...this is probably the one show I'm most excited about right now. RAWK'n'ROLL!!!

as far as without nick.. to me, with a more casual interest in the band, it was less noticable than i thought it'd be. compared to last time i saw them, there were more songs with mark singing... i suppose someone that was a bigger fan might have more of an issue with no nick, but the band sounded fine and played well and the show overall sounded a whole lot better then last time they played there. way too much bass in the mix last time..

Saw the Queens at the Norva LAst night, they Kicked Ass! Can't wait til Sunday to see them here at the 9:30 club. I've never been inside, can anyone tell me what it looks like, since this sight doesn't have photos or any shit like that. What's the standing room like? Give me details
-
yea so its two levels.
over all the club holds around 800ish people.
Main Floor is by the double doors on your right - Right after you pass the Ticket/ID
(yea, if ur over 21 get your ID ready, u'll need it after they take your ticket. lol)
They are two bars in the Main floor. and they are across from each other.
They also have a balcony. To get there after the
ticket/id area turn left and climb up the staircase. that leads up to the balcony and usually the VIP section in the balcony area.
Upstairs theres two bars.. Coffee Bar and a regular bar. Also where the regular bar is at there is Coat Check. =P
--- okay across the double doors (entrance to the main room) its called the "back bar" its basically a place where u can chill and sit down, get drinks while waiting for the Talent to come on.
I think i pretty much got everything covered.. lol.. let me know if u got anymore questions =P
