Title: For fans of the Postal Service
Post by: Charlie Nakatestes, Japanese Golfer on October 29, 2003, 03:32:00 pm
you might want to check out the new album by Stars, a band from Montreal. Similiar sound, but even a little better than PS in my opinion.

I second that Rhett (what am i saying?)

They are maybe the best "pop" band out of Canada, definitely the best band out of Montreal.  Did they come out with something new?

Let me be the first to say it....I'm glad you're back Rhett, honest. Hopefully Celeste will follow.

If everyone got on all the time on this board, it would become a "bored"!

You can listen to some songs here. Sounded more like bad new order rip offs to me.

Yes, especially radiohead.

I went to allmusic, who do they say stars are like?

The first song on the site I posted is very New order, but not in an Interpol way.

I found it in a thrift store in Brooklyn on Saturday for $2.95. Wasn't expecting that much from it, but have been pleasantly surprised.

lets see.......

New order will probably always be compared with pet shop boys after their two front men collaborated on electronic...... I bet both of them would be pissed about being compared to the human league, then is it just because they use the female voice more....

Sonic, I looked at allmusic to find the stars sight, with a terrible name like that googling is useless. From there I found the music link and I read the allmusic description whilst listening. If you listen to the links, do you think they sound like new order, or not?

I cant listen to the links, but i have thier first CD, and while you could draw influences, they are certainly not ripping them off.  Either way, almost every pop-rock band on EARTH has a little New Order in it, dont they?

I dunno, that first track on that site was a bit too close to comfort. I dont agree that all pop rock has a bit of new order in it.

I only brought up new order as I think they sound much more like them than the postal service.

I dont know why you are raging on me. Just because you made an arse of yourself with the 80s band comment, which you then go on to say you believe yourself.

Did something bad happen to you?

I almost got angry at that one, until i remembered that you wrote this earlier:

"Are the chemical brothers not DJs?"

then i thought, "must be a moron"  so i will let you have your little image loading fun, oh dull one.

Markie, I am not raging on you.  Sorry it came out this way.  I have read your posts for too long for that now.

And while i agree that you CAN relate any "pop" band to an 80s British band, i think its unfair, cause sometimes it jsut too nit-picky to bring up.  you dig?

Markie, I mean, that i have read your posts for long enough that i think i know when you may be trying to jerk my (or someones) chain, and when you are stating a sincere thought/opinion, which you were in this case, and therefore, i was not raging on you and didnt mean for it to sound like that.

Stars have been around for several years now. Not bad but as far as bands from Montreal are concerned, I prefer The Stills.

Fuck you Sonic for mentioning Radiohead! (  ;)  ) Just as I read your comment 3wk had to go and play them. The more I hear them the more boring they sound.
