Your age is the hardest age
 Everything drags and drags

Just acknowledging the difficulties of adolescence, that's all.

And quoting a Replacements song.    :p

Betty, if you were around and this age when the Replacements sort of hit it, you would have liked them.  A little rough around the edges, in a good way.  Not as polished as the music from new/breaking  bands you hear nowadays, but they sure could write a good song.  Especially about teen angst (again, in a good way.)

I tell ya, if one didn't have teen angst to begin with, Myspace would be enough to cause it.

my favorite replacements teen angst line:

"Pretty girl keep growin up /
 Playin make-up, wearin guitar"

not sure if i can adequately explain why here, but the song itself (left of the dial) has kind a of sloppy and throwaway attitude ... and this line (mixing up the make-up and the guitar) just sums up the whole mood of the song so damn well ... awesome ...

I like the suburban teen angst lyrics spun by DC's own Grey Matter.

There's no use saying that my city's burning
In the place where I live only leaves are burning
No use talking about the man in the street
In the place where I live we donā??t feel his heat
There's no use saying that my people are crying
Cause I'd be posing, Iā??d be lying
No use talking about no revolution
In the place where I live we donā??t know smog and pollution
But there's something that I know all about
Cause Iā??m feeling rejected Iā??m feeling left out
I kinda hate your guts but I wanna have friends
I wanna feel good even if you pretend
Iā??m sitting by myself its Saturday night
I could get stoned but I donā??t feel right
There's nothing wrong with me it must be all of you
Cause I'm feeling rejected no matter what I do

Think I'm gonna cry reading this one....I wore the grooves out on this song when I was Betty's age.

He lives in his imagination, with those friends of his very own
He doesn't get along with the outside world, he'd rather be alone
Sometimes, when it's late at night, he starts to wonder why
(The plans he made can never happen, so all he does is cry).

His parents, they can't understand why their son, he turned out wrong
He runs away from all the pain and forgets them when he's gone
He'd rather be all by himself because his plans, they seem the best.
He finally gets the nerve one day and now life becomes a test.

 Mom and Dad, I'm sorry
 Mom and Dad, don't worry
I'm not the son you wanted, but what could you expect?
I've made my world of happiness to combat your neglect.

Man...Zen Arcade is really the masterpiece of teenage angst.

Searching for the truth but all I ever find is lies
Trying to find identity but I just find a disguise
Looking at the nightmare when I try to see the dream
Finding a reality as perfect as it seems

Somewhere the dirt is washed down with the rain
Somewhere there's happiness instead of pain
 Somewhere satisfaction has no name
Somewhere I can be the same

Looking down on everything it seems a total bore
Missing all the people that I've never met before
Trying to find an unknown something I consider best
I don't know if I'll find it, but until then I'll be depressed

I wonder if Betty is actually angst-ridden, or are we just all projecting our own miserable teenage pasts upon her?

Well, if she isn't angst ridden because of her own frustrations then MySpace is sure doing their part to make sure she grows up like a 'normal' teenager!     Man, I hated so much of my teenage days.

I'm sure the constant trips to LA to hang out with rockstars has her crying herself to sleep everynight  ;)

I guess we'll have to wait until after school to find out...unless the schools these days have Internet cafes which is entirely possible.
