DC United game on Saturday evening promises to be exciting.
-
The weather looks to be nice and might merit a trip to Old Rag for a second straight weekend.
Our two nearest neighborhood libraries are having booksales. I got a couple of Henry Rollins poetry books for 50 cents each at the pre-sale. Should be good for a laugh.
We're going to see Sideways tonight, then going out to eat thanks to a gift coupon.
And there's a NASCAR race on the boob tube Sunday.
How's that?
-
Tonight: Washington Social Club at Black Cat and "I Fought the Big One" awesome DJ night at Marx Cafe
Saturday: soccer, Soccer, SOCCER. DC United is suddenly kicking butt again.
Sunday: rest before a long week of shows and our fall membership meeting for work which involves lots of tireless schmoozing. Maybe "Sideways"...supposed to be great, and I love the director.[/
-
It might not be cool anymore to go see them but I still dig the Washington Social Club. For $7, you can check them out at the Black Cat tonite.
Anyone know anything about the openers (Two If By Sea and The Volunteers)?
A friend of mine is dragging me off to see Galactic on Saturday night. I can just imagine what this show is going to be like. I think I'll just drink early and heavily and the night will pass quickly ;)

I'm sorry about Galactic. It is everything you think it will be and worse. Though their drummer is really good. Two if by Sea are pretty good, a good bit of electronica mixed with indie rock.
-
Off up to my sister's in Killaloe for the weekend.
-
I'm going to see some overly boring, tripe, pc band play.

I am going to see Muse in Philly on Saturday and do a little overpriced South St. shopping on a hopefully sunny Sunday afternoon!

I'll be at WSC tonight. I still love 'em too.
-
Sh*T! You going to this, Kosmo? The DC United playoffs are that night, and the worst part about that is the couple of friends of mine who *might* travel to B'more with me for this show won't miss the game.

not sure, it's a been a rough week for the k's...
-
Liberation Dance party at DC9 tonight featuring the music of Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Interpol, etc.
Electrotease there tomorrow.
-
Dandy, what's Electrotease like?
I think I'm going to WSC too. I've never seen them.
As for Saturday... the FLESHTONES! I haven't seen them in years and they always used to rock...where/what is the Mojo Room?

Isn't that like every other dance night at DC9? NOT that I'm complaining...should be a great time. DC9 rocks.

Doom, they are SO much fun. They hit Iota once to twice a year, and I've caught about four shows there. Super fun, super energy, great rock n' roll. These guys still have it.

Northeast side of Baltimore... I can PM you directions.
Should be a hott show, the O-Matics are a energtic bunch who play crazy rock and roll. The Things! are Baltimore answer to the Detroit Cobras.
-
K, will you PM me directions just in case. I took the LONG way out last time I was there....
Thx
-
yikes, PM me the directions, but the prospect of driving all the way to the north side of Bawlmer and then driving home again all tired and bleary-eyed, doesn't sit too well...

hipster night!! woohoo!
maybe its just me, but the Killers is like one of those guilty pleasure bands for me.
great album, but i doubt i'd admit liking them very often.
-
Doom, I haven't checked out Electrotease since its heyday at Five, which was a mixed bag as far as music and crowd. The cover is usually hefty but is made up by name DJs.
Bags, I just saw the ad in the paper so I can't speak from personal experience..

Just an FYI, that's pretty much DC9's standard playlist.... You can check out their "M21 Music List" here. (http://wwww.dcnine.com/index.php?page=music)

You can stream Two if By Sea here. (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/twoifbysea)
"Translations" is 9 songs of new-wave inspired angular rock... ambient electronics, guitars, live and triggered drums, and voices...creating an original post-punk sound infused with the spirit and sensibility of late 70s/early 80s.

They are doing Depeche Mode giveaways plus more.

Sounds good to me, wonder what the turnout will be like.
-
hmm, I might pop by "Between Friends," if only because it will stir memories of Medusa/Strange's DJ nights there when it was called U-Turn, which were always fun :)

Between Friends is NOT the same place as The U-Turn Bar - just want to make sure everyone knows this!
Between Friends is however right near The U-Turn Bar, but on the same side of U Street as Bohemian Caverns.
Cheers

Yes, U Turn, which in turn, was reminiscent of Panic to me. This sounds tempting too, but tomorrow's event is free.

U-Turn holds 80 people, Between Friends holds more like 800 :) Big difference! This venue is great and the prices on drinks is cheap. Right next to the Industrial Bank <img src="http://www.deep6.com/icon/devil.gif" alt=" - " />

>>>I got free tickets to this shindig and I think it will be damn fine!! See ya in Baltimore!!
-
In addition to the Kurosawa film fest, this is the second weekend of the EU Film Showcase at the AFI (http://www.afi.com/silver/new/) .
And xcanuck, I've seen Two if by Sea 3-4 times now and really like them a lot. Along the lines of Franz Ferdinand. And better live than recorded. I wish they would get more attention.

I think a lot will be going on tonight between a lot of "friends," especially if people dress as ElectroTease wants them to (in their underwear). ;)
Cheers

Jesus Christ, Doom!!! You just circled the entire planet like it was nothing and now you say that a little trip up to Baltimore is too far. It's not the freaking moon. And it's a Saturday to boot! :p
Sonick, what are we going to do with some of these wussy-assed DC wimps?
-
Jaguar, there is something about the stretch of I-95 between Baltimore and Washington that is so boring that it acts as an almost insurmountable barrier, its powers far exceeding the actual distance that must be travelled!
Anyhoo thanks for pointing me to Washington Social Club -- their show at the Black Cat last night was amazing. I've been put off by their name because it sounds like a dating group for yuppies, but they are a far cry from anything remotely like that.
and Bags nice to see you as always :)
I'll probably pop by Electrotease tonight, if anyone else is going let me know....

Then take 295 like I always take every couple weeks or so.
-
Doom, I'm hoping to pop by, if I don't get stuck at the Cat; I'll look for you ;)
-
Has anyone checked out the Wonderland bar over at 11th and Kenyon? It's an excellent bar that could use business! I spent Saturday evening over there before heading over to Essence on 18th st.
-
I've been there... it's a great place with a fun atmosphere and a real neighborhood feel. The only problem is, if you're there til closing and you need a cab to get home, you're basically fucked!
