I know most do not care, but I know theres a few heads on there that listen to this. I know there are some pissed off people right now who bought tickets to this show thinking BlackStar was going to do a show in DC. Guess Mr. Hollywood thought he did enough shows. Better luch next time.
-
Where'd you get this info?
-
www.okayplayer.com (http://www.okayplayer.com)
-
Thanks. Sucks for people that bought tix. I'm glad I didn't - $40 was a bit steep anyway...
-
yea your telling me.
im glad i didnt buy them yet either
i had a feeling something like that was going to happen.
-
rumors have already started saying he will BE BACK on tour, and that he was only taking a few shows off.
I have no idea.
but im still waiting.
-
are we going to be able to get refunds ?
a lot of the venues across the country are, at the least , giving partial refunds.
whats the word 930 ?
-
he is back on the tour
-
hes not.. it hasnt been confirmed ANYWHERE .. what has been confirmed is that -- he isnt on the tour at all anymore
what are your sources ?

-

Being the person that owns the club and books the shows should count for something. If Seth says it's the case that Mos Def is performing, then that's good enough for me. Instead of looking for rumors on the internet like the rest of us, I expect Seth is talking to the people that matter directly.
-
Hahahahahaha what a riot of a thread!

Bub, the owner of the venue just told you that Mos Def will be there. That's the best confirmation you're going to get on this board.
-
from the owner to gods ears.
-
we were talking to the tour organzers all week about who would be the best replacement...they were suggesting either Lauryn Hill or De La Soul
it was quite a topic of discussion...Lauryn would be the glamour way to go, but De La more the spirit of the show
there were very conflicting opinions as to which would stem the tide of refunds (which we would offer, of course)
a quick survey of our front line people (box office, etc) confirmed that there were 2 distinct types buying the tix...the Howard U's and the UMD's were the generalizations
ultimately we decided to go with De La Soul, drop the ticket price and give everyone some cash back on the way in that already bought tix...our thinking was that if people clamored for refunds, and we had to put tix back up, the college kids home for the Thanksgiving wknd were more likely to want to see a decent hip-hop night for a reasonable ticket, than a high priced Lauryn Hill show
so we were waiting for the confirmation of De La when the tour called to tell us that Mos Def is back...AND...Lauryn was so excited about getting out there again that she would still like to play...so we're actually trying now to figure out how to get her on, as well
so...let's have little WWJD discussion here...who would have been the best replacement, De La or Lauryn, and why?
try and play club owner here...the question is which would have caused the least stampede for refunds
-
man... i will find you in the club and give u the biggest hug if mos is there. i heard on the radio today -- mos def's dj confirmed that hes not coming for the show supposedly.
also -- i read a review of the ATL show last night and Pos from De La was there, but he only did like 4 tracks.
i would probably prefer de la over lauryn hill only if all 3 members of de la came, and not just Pos like in the ATL show... if only one member is gonna show up to replace mos, it should probably be Ms. Hill
are you saying its possible that mos is still coming and lauryn wants to do the show badly too ? that would make my thanksgiving break.
--btw seth, thanks for all the notice and attention.
-
also real quick, Mos was NOT at the ATL show -- this was the show he was rumored to return on.

jesus would have booked the gospel gangstaz:

or maybe t-bone, i've heard the big JC can't get "Gospel Alpha Mega Funky Boogie Disco Music" out of his stereo
<img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000075A2A.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg" alt=" - " />
it's a toss-up, really
-
Hoya, now that is funny! :D
-
wow, seth...first post here
are you seriously saying Mos Def and Lauryn Hill will both come? I would like confirmation Mos Def is coming somehow, because this wouldn't just make by break, but my year.
-
wouldnt they have to upp the price of the show if they get Hill ?? if mos is in fact showing up -- why would they add another performer? everyone would love it , but it doesnt seem financially feasible -- plus Hill must cost a lot.
toolate -- this is cord from okp. ghheheeheh
-
I'd go with Lauryn Hill because it's so rare to see her anymore, hence more demand.
They are quoting your Mos Def/ De La Soul / Lauryn Hill saga over on the Okayplayer boards, Seth. It's funny how people still don't fully trust the owner of the club.
While I have your attention, could you please throw some crazy money at the Drive By Truckers to play soon on one of their breaks from the studio?
Either way, keep up the great work. Thanks.

I think De La would have been the way to go, esp. for the UMDs. I would think that many of Lauryn's fans would rather see her outside of a package tour hootenanny. She can sell out the club on her own. "Miseducation" came out 7 years ago; back then, most of the UMDs now attending were just learning to
-
my vote would be for the entire de la soul crew or a tribe called quest
lauren is a great replacement though. just grateful to have an owner with sense enough to make a plan.

Tribe would be ill!
need a stright anwser to who is going to be there.
-
Hey Seth, Will they perform at both shows because I have tickets to the Friday show and would like to know if these performers will show up to both shows
-
ah crap
now there both sold out and i have no idea who is going to be there.
shat.
-
how i see it, lauryn could sell out that place by herself. so any disappointed fans deciding to refund due to mos def's absence would easily be outweighed by the lauryn hill's fans deciding to purchase.
there'd be the mostly overlapping fans of both artists, and then the indirect proportional effect of backpacks exiting the building and headwraps entering as kweli wrapped up his set and lauryn was next to come on.
de la has been through here plenty as of late (b'more just last week). i'm sure many more are clamoring to see lauryn hill in her current "unplugged" phase..

kinda like nascar, i think some people wanna see that... it's like going to a cat power show.
of course none of this matters since both shows are sold out anyways.
-
i just want to know who is going to be there.
two different claims from two boards.
-
yeah -- whats the word?

"Brother" is a provincial term some doodles of African heritage use to refer to other doodles of African heritage.
