Title: High Dials Roll Call
Post by: chaz on September 02, 2004, 08:46:00 am
So who's going?  They're the openers and doors are at 9:00.  It's been a while since I've been to a backstage show....what time do you all think it might start?

the Phobes are kind of a 60s pop outfit that would've sounded right at home on a billing with the Kinks and the Who circa 1965.  I don't know anything about the other band, except Jaguar says they're good, which is good enough for me. (http://www.alex.to/doomlink)  :)

I want to go, but may not be able to make it....    :(    I'll make up for it next week!

if you don't go, I'll take it personally and be deeply offended!

I'll probably go, unless we have another work-related disaster.  I've never heard of the High Dials other than on this board.  The Phobes are your basic garage-type stuff.  More Nuggets-like than the newer garage-rock stuff.

i'll be there. i'm looking forward to checking out the high dials live, and the phobes are a pretty good local band (nothing groundbreaking, but fun).

knowing the backstage on a thursday, the high dials will go on between 9:30 and 9:45, depending on crowd size at 9:30.

Does that mean you changed your mind, Bags?  Feeling better?

I'm going to play it by ear...I have a dinner in VA, so it could well be on my way home and at the right time.  If so, I may as well pop by and just check out the H.D.'s  It's probably 50/50...

nice to see you Jaguar and Kurosawa (and I think also Snailhook?)   The Phobes had some very good moments, and I thought the High Dials were just amazing.  I was bummed they went on last, I had to leave halfway through their excellent set and didn't get to see what they were going to do with the sitar sitting teasingly on the edge of the stage.  :(

The High Dials headlined?  In that case, I probably would have missed it anyhow.  Glad it was a good show for those who went.

What a fucking fanstastic show!!!

First off, I was just happy to finally get a chance to see The High Dials live after being into them for a good while now. Especially after them not showing up last year at The Mojo when I went just to see them.

Then, once I got there, I was very happy to find out that the order of the sets had been switched. Never understood why it was originally booked the other way in the first place.

The High Dials set was incredible! Every song just got better and better as they progressed and got livelier and more psyched out. If I'm not mistaken, they played for well over an hour but I wasn't keeping track so am not too sure on that. All very good and no wasted filler either.

About halfway into their set, they sort of freaked me out by asking if I was there.    :(

And all of you Canucks, you are sorely falling behind on your Can Con obligations. Shame on you!   :p
