Since bags asked this question deep in the what are you listening to now thread, I decided to unearth for all to add input to
To be honest I can't think of the CDs I would automatically associate with the summer of 2003. Its been a lot of compliations and greatest hits of late. Last year it was obvious with Ash "Free All Angels", Brendan Benson "Lapaco" and Myracle Brah "Bleeder". All still in heavy rotation.
This summer the "obvious" choice would be The High Strung, I went through a phase of really enjoying a Romantics Greatest Hits. The rest of the music "new" and old has been gotten via eMusic, Lemon Jelly "Lost Horizons" (I'm a sucker for electronic music with clever samples), and Pernice Brothers. The late entries to the list is The Knobs, The Carlsonics, and Helicopter Helicopter.
So anyone else go a list of Summer 2003 CDs?

I've been traveling most of the summer, so have been doing a lot of listening, and the discs dominating the porto-disc are:
Grandaddy "Sumday"
Clinic "Walking With Thee"
Mogwai "Happy Music"
Metallica "Kill'em All/Ride the Lightning" 2-for-1 pirated disc
Thievery Corporation "Richest Man in Babylon"
-
Pernice Brothers Yours, Mine, and Ours
and my Beach Boys Greatest Hits package
-
The Postal Service
and
Adam Green
were the two things I listened to most
Dandy Warhols coming in third.
Recently Jadetree enabled me with the 2001 beulah album. I think it has quickly become a favourite.
I am also enjoying Fruit bats Mouthfuls and Super Furry Animals Phantom power.
Much as I love all of these, I wouldnt trade them all in for the TYDE, once and twice.
-
Boo hoo. When we played that Beulah album for you guys, you gave it a thumbs down.
I was going to mention that same Beulah album. It was great to play on the ride to the beach, along with the Beach Boys. But it's so 2001. Looking forward to the new one, out on Tuesday.

Ye olde foot in mouth syndrome. What was that he was saying about alt country?

Probably because we are scared of your music choices after you made us endure bluegrass that one time.
Still I realised I just messed up. I prefer when your heartstrings break to the coast is never clear, by quite a wide margin. I am still not sure about the coast is never clear.
As for Thirsty, well I believe I pestered him to go to the lambchop show. So it would be non-sensical for me to bash alt-country too much.

Is that not a wonderful album? I love it. (waiting for markie to throw it away now)
but since i am not indie , i will have to say Hail to the Thief or Deloused in the Creamtorium.
-
The Tyde, "Twice"
Fountains of Wayne, "Welcome Interstate Managers"
The High Strung
The Long Winters
Foo Fighters, One by One (do NOT give me any crap)
Idelwild, "The Remote Part"
And I'm just now getting into the Brendan Benson and Pernice Bros. I've recently purchased. Have the Carlsonics, but have yet to listen to it.
So Beulah, huh? I'm a sucker for buying something when they're coming into town soon.....
-
You did, and I am grateful. That was a good show.

Again Jadetree turned me on to it. Throw it away? PAH! You would have trouble prising it from my cold dead hands.
Your other two album choices, on the other hand, were dire.

It really was. I love it when audiences are that quiet and the band so captivating. Its about time they toured again.

I love it when the audience member that was drunk and annoying during the show talks to the guitarist afterwards and compliments him on his bass skills.

I have been listening to Give Up a lot, too.
and you're right -- you're NOT indie!! It isn't Crematoruim... it's De-Loused in the Comatourium (remember the album is a concept album about the inner workings of their friend who had attempted suicide's brain...)
This summer I've been kind of listening to some old favorites, and the relatively new things such as Black Eyes and Ted Leo. I really like the Shins, too.

I gotta say, however you spell it, the Mars Volta album's a bust. Sounds way, waaay too proggy for my taste.
Black Eyes, on the other hand, continue to get better with age. I was lucky enough to hear some demos for the new EP, and they sound stupendous...twice as dubby and three times as booty-shakin'.

SNAP!
I forgot to add the new coral album, magic and medicine, has been getting a lot of summertime play in my cave.
