SHE LOST....GET OVER IT.
Crowd behavior affected Serena
By MaliVai Washington
Special to ESPN.com
PARIS -- All tournament long, Justine Henin-Hardenne has had a lot of crowd support because she's from Belgium, where a huge portion of the population speaks French. It's not a surprise that much of the crowd was for Henin-Hardenne in the semifinal against Serena Williams.
In addition, I think a lot of people wanted to see someone other than Williams in the final.
However, I thought the crowd at times showed poor taste toward Serena. There were a couple of occasions when the linesperson didn't call the ball out and Serena stopped in the middle of a point to circle the mark and the chair umpire confirmed that the ball was out. Serena was completely in the right, but the crowd reacted negatively toward her. After that, they proceeded to cheer when Serena would miss the first serve, which is completely inappropriate.
I think the crowd was definitely a factor in the match, when you have an extremely rowdy crowd there are times when it works in your favor and there are times it works against you. Two days ago, the crowd was for Amelie Mauresmo and it worked against her because she couldn't handle the pressure. Thursday, the crowd was for Henin-Hardenne and at times got ugly toward Serena and that affected her

So, next time Colin Montgomerie comes over here and complains about the crowd, you'll call the Brits sore losers and tell him to "shut up and get over it" right?

Absolutely!
what's even worse...he's Scottish, you think he'd be used to losing by now.
Golf is for old men and poofters anyway, it's not even a sport.
What sport should be about is giving the player a standing ovation who just scored three goals and secured your teams exit from the greatest club competition in footie! (where did that happen again???)

So you agree that something was wrong with the crowd then, other than being French?
-
I wonder if the fact that Serena used a fake French accent to mock France for not backing "Operation Iraqi Freedom" has anything to do with the French booing her. Nah, probably not.
-
The girl that opened a can 'o' whoopass on her is Belgian!

If the crowd paid their money to get in then they can cheer for who they damn-well they want to....don't you think?
Look, all I'm saying is if you get your arse kicked don't come crying with any lame excuses about the crowd..if that was the case the away team would never win, no matter what the sport.

Very true, but Serena Williams wasn't making that argument, and didn't write that article, MaliVai Washington did. It's not as if Serena is crying about it, at least to my knowledge.

Isn't that enough?

My comment wasn't directed to Serena, that's why I said "she lost" not "you lost"... and why I made the comparison to the standing ovation Ronaldo got, and why GGW's comment was somewhat irrelevant (but what's new?).
By the way, I can't help but like Agassi but have you noticed that at press conferences after a game, if he's lost it's always because of something he did or didn't do rather than congratulate his oponent on a great victory.

She actually was crying on the court from what I read.

Birds always cry when they lose....and win!
I don't think that's a sign of being a sore loser. Evidently she was a little ungracious with the handshake though, so maybe she is.

I am glad you are in touch with your feminine side. Must be why you want to throw your knickers at Tom Jones

Hey at least all the ones I like are younger than, erm, you.

I'd say it's more a case of racism than xenophobia. I think Jessie Jackson should look into the matter.

Marco, please help me understand why you posted this photo. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't find it funny.

Why do you think my intention was humor? I am trying to make a sincere social commentary (http://www.moviesounds.com/2001/stress.mp3) about the need for reconcilliation in these troubled post-industrial times...can't you see that?

I'll just bet dollars to doughnuts that you were a hall-monitor back in grade school.
"Mrs.Crabgrass...Dupek was running with scissors!" Ten demerits.

How do you think he got this moderator gig?

Mankie -- ask Kosmo. Oh yeh, and Marco, why'd you change your photo? All I did was ask a question. Is that wrong?
-
What was the question again, I forgot?

I am pretty sure the answer is 42
