Yeah, I saw the "Next Week Roll Call" thread, but the Hives deserve one of their own. My sister saw them in Chicago and said that it killed. Really looking forward to tonight. I'll be in my special Social Distortion Halloween shirt. Here's hoping they play "See Through Head". Gawd I love that song.
-
I will be there with bells on - should be good
-
I'm their and kinda diggin' an "Evening with show" for the middle of the week...
-
I'll be there, but I sprained my ankle over the weekend so may be sitting in the back... :( I know I won't be able to stay there long, though. Must load up on meds...
-
I'm in.
-
I'll try to be there as close to 8 as possible. Bags, sorry to hear about your ankle...that really sucks! Maybe Dante can get you a spot at the side of the stage? It never hurts to ask. When I saw Social D a few times this summer, I was amazed at the number of people in wheelchairs and on crutches...the band would always try to accomodate them at the side of the stage (or in one case, a guy was ON the stage).
-
PS -- Anyone know of an extra ticket? A buddy of mine wants to go and it's his birthday today.
-
i'm there. Are they on stage exactly at 9 ?

Yup, that's why the door time and show time are BOTH listed, which the Cat rarely does.
-
Yes...they have a pretty tight schedule. They're in the middle of like 2 solid weeks without a night off. So they'll be on right at 9 and then on their way to South Carolina.
-
I'll be there. Should be great. The new album leaked last week and it's a gas. Not as hard rocking as T-Hives or VVV, but just as catchy.
-
Can't wait. Still bummed I missed them at the Cat when they opened for Intl Noise Conspiracy a few years ago. I'd never heard of them and showed up late, just as the Hives were leaving the stage. I knew immediately I'd missed something special.
-
I'll be there! How early is everyone getting there? the Cat doesn't usually make long lines go by fast.
-
Meeting Kosmo at 8....and bringing one ither and meeting another....all 4 ticks are gone!....this will be as good as the first time I saw them at the Cat,I hope!

i didn't check the board before i left, but i was there.
i had hoped the start would really be 9 so i could get back home by midnight-ish, but it was 9:45.... and then construction on 95 put me home at 1:30. blah.
-
I was there. If you saw an old long hair fucker back by the merch who was hobbled over a cane that be me... I go in soon to get BOTH knees replaced. I think this will put the count of titanium parts in me up to about 70 or 75... Damn the airports love me...
-
That was a hell of a show, anyone know why they came on so late? I figured it had to do with the line taking a bit.
Im just really bummed I didnt get the shirt that looked like their suits.
-
"thank you Hives, you sound so goooood"
-
That was a hell of a show. They're so fuckin' arrogant.
I LOVE that . . . .
-
yawn
-
If you didn't have fun at that show then you have no soul. You might as well head down to the court house and change your name to Brian Walalce.
-
Now there's a band who knows how to rock. Great show. Nice meeting a few more of you folks, too.
-
The late start did suck. Since 9pm was advertised, I think people were getting unusually antsy. Great show. Great energy. Probably shouldn't have worn sandals into the crushing sea up front. That was one of the most diverse crowds I've seen for a rock band. Lots of first timers to The Cat.
Its so funny that The Cat took so many precautions for a show like this (no glass bottles, extra security guy overlooking the crowd). The hives are loud, but their audience poses no security risk. They should've done that for the Hank III and Assjack/Psyopus show instead.
-
recipe for a great rock band...
One Rock Steady Drummer
Catchy Tunes
Working hard for the money lead singer
-
They sounded great, they looked great, just a class act all the way.
-
yeah it wasn't a bad show. sorry to those who met me last night that I was such a bum...I've had a rough week...

more like mick jagger wannabe
this band sucks
-
and Iggy, Roger, probably a soul singer or two, even caught a bit of a kung fu kick...
-
Great fun. The bolo tie phase was a failure, but black suits with an H crest on the breast seems to be dress for success.
The new songs are solid - esp. liked the last song - and that seems to have invigorated the band. Obviously they are fueled on confidence and confidence is best when its real. I think their last effort wasn't great (Although I never really heard it - kind of slept on these guys since VVV) but they're back on track. Seems like they're re-inspired to take garage rock to the future. Even if they re-invent the wheel, they're so likeable its nice to see them succeed.
Howlin' Pelle is Jagger/Iggy mixed with Paul Stanley/David Lee Roth. Always entertaining. As is "Brad Hamilton on speed" (and everyone else for that matter). And the band may be one (or at best two) dimesional, but they've polished that one dimension to the point where they can cut diamonds with it (I know that doesn't make sense) so it continues to work.
-
They're touring with Maroon 5. Seems like that would be right up his alley.

I think this is the first show in months that hasn't bored you to tears . . . :p
-
"Yes, it is in fact true. We are actually here live, you can touch me."
Did anyone stay after the show to meet them? As I was walking out someone was saying they were signing autographs in 20 minutes but we had to go back to my friends apartment and catch the train home.
-
Sadly, I had a ticket for the show but was feeling sick and rather out of it. It sounds like they woulda kicked the malaise outta me. Next time....
-
I'm sorry I couldn't make this show! I really hope it's not another 3 years before they play DC again....
-
I don't think the band reads this message board.

This sounds like a lot of fun and the setlist looks great. Wish it wasn't mid-week so I could've been there. :(

I heard from the bartender that the plastic cups were the band's request.

Pelle mentioned the band would be returning Feb/March...

I'm surprised so many clubs put actual glasses out there. It only takes one really drunk asshole to break one on a table and start stabbing for things to get ridiculous.

Fortunately, that's pretty rare around here. Perhaps the Hives had a bad experience they understandably don't want to repeat.
-
After the Germs show at the Cat there was a really bad fight between 2 guys. One took a glass, threw it in the other guy's face and voila...blood EVERYWHERE. Punk rock is SO excellent!

I'm sad....my sprained ankle was worrying me -- I knew I wouldn't be able to sit quietly, and really didn't want to sprain it any further, so I stayed home and kept it up on ice.
DAMN DAMN. But, I kept telling myself, "it's only a show, just one show. And hell, it's not like it's the Art Brut/Hold Steady show!"
Sounds like y'all had a gas -- happy to hear it.
-
I was just being a Brian Walalce wannabe. Not last night :)
I think this is the first show in months that hasn't bored you to tears . . . :p
show was over by 11. wouldn't been that late getting home. and the show didn't start until 9:45, so getting there at 9ish means a late departure. all together it was an easy trip.
