Title: Music for the weather
Post by: boweswana on November 09, 2004, 10:38:00 am
It's getting chilly and the mood changes to more chilly type music.  I went for Peter Murphy way too early this morning and struck out there but have now comfortably settled into some old Mark Lanegan and acoustic Tom Waits stuff.  Next up...Lush for when the sun hits the windows but I can still see all the trees shedding their leafs and weaving to and fro.

Does this kind of weather related taste in music affect anybody else?  I would think it's pretty common.

Lots of Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen.

Nothing but punk rock for me since the election.  The 16 year old in me is reborn.

Me too, Chaz. Punk rock fucking galore. A lot of Germs, early Social D, and Minor Threat for me. Great stuff when you're pissed off and you know that many people out there hate your guts because you're one of the "bottom feeders" of society.

And Social D is in my town next week so I have to get geared up!

Wow Social D.  Is that sold out?  I haven't seen them for years, or heard a new record in forever.

 My recent playlists:
 Circle Jerks - Group Sex
Black Flag - Damaged and My War
 Germs - Anthology (cheers, Bunnyman)
4 old 7's on a 12 - Early Dischord sampler feat. GI, SOA, Youth Brigade and Teen Idles (first harcore record I ever owned)
Subhumans - The Day the Country Died
Agnostic Front - Victim in Pain
 Flipper - Generic Flipper

.....and as usual, tons of Ramones....especially since my little girl, who turns 3 next week, is really digging them.  I've caught her singing them a few times.  "Tonight, tonight, tonight."   That's my girl.

People are labeling them so they are labeling the people that are labeling them.

They played Nation a few weeks back and it was sold out.

I'm seeing them in SF on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

The new album is a bit more feel good then their early albums, but don't mistake feel good for soft.  It will still hit you across the nose if you're not paying attention.  And they're still the shit live.

Oh yeah...that's why I never go see Social D...they always play Nations.  I think it's been 10 years since I saw them, at least.

When i was like 15 and 16 we'd watch that movie "Another State of Mind" all the time and think how cool it'd be if our shitty little band could go on tour.......

Now playing:  Shawn Smith - Let it all begin.

Works well with the color of the trees and the steam from the coffee cup.

Indeed.  Iggy speaks loudly.  If you're into that kind of stuff check out a band called Kung Fury at Iota on 11/27.  Very kick-ass Stoogey style rock led by an Arlington native and tremendously cool dude named Shaun Brennan.  If you ever saw Vanity Champ it's the same Shaun from that band.

Uhh...Shaun's been one of my best friends since I was in the 10th grade.  We surely know each other.

Steve, from the Kidner Transport moving endless amounts of furniture days.  I don't think I've seen you since JiveBomb was playing out.  Shaun told me you were doing well though.  Going to the KF show at Iota?

Damn Steve!  Yeah I'll be there...PM me with your e-mail address.  Now I'm outta here...
I'm taking my kids to the zoo!  Beats moving furniture, though I wish we could do one last job with dear old John.

Tom Waits the Early Years Vol. I

It totally fits as this music is pretty much all about shitty and dank broken hearts and broken people.

Nicer day out so I busted out the Kinks, 'Give the people what they want' to match the sunshine and chill in the air.  Toes are tapping and the dog is wagging her tail so the choice was a good one I think.

Give the people what they want... We hope everybody gets what they deserve."
